I think its a site for TV content like downloading series / episodes etc..

Anyhow can't believe virgin media already blocking it, that was fast..

Oh, ok.  Figured it was some fort of prOn site.  :-)

Kinda ironic that the UK government is struggling to get ISPs to block violent/child porn, yet they're very quick to block anything that aids copyright infringement.

I guess the copyright holders have more ?? to throw at the government/courts than the organisations campaigning for things that actually *should* be blocked to be blocked.

The difference is, blocks against sites like EZTV and Pirate Bay are the result of significant court action against specific sites that have to be evidenced etc, whereas the blocks they want against porn sites are generic ones that can be disabled.  Not even remotely the same thing.

Soon enough it won't matter as it will just all melt into the same pot.

Why, for obeying the law and doing what a court has ordered them to do?

Just because it's the law doesn't always make it right.

I boycott Orange because of some miserable b***h on customer services, they obeyed the law but I still boycotted them :)

Eztv were making it possible for people to watch copyrighted content without paying the copyright holder for it, that's neither legal nor morally right.

Oh, you're one of those types.

Way I see it, if the show airs on a channel I normally get anyway, what's the difference if I download it later?

Now block Google and Bing. Thanks.

EZTV does not host material on their servers, they are a linking service, just like any search engine out there.

Blocking sites is not the right way to go. Maybe the content holders should start thinking other ways to spread their material instead of the TV or $20 DVDs.

EDIT: Oh wait, EZTV does host some things on their servers, free movies (Actual free movies)

But I guess Floating also believes that HBO, Lionsgate etc have all the right to file a DMCA takedown notice on TPB-AFK movie which they have no right on and which Google is actively blocking from their engine? HBO has what right on another independent director film exactly? If I was that director Id go straight after HBO into court for that stuff.

The way you see it doesn't cut the mustard. A TV channel pays for that show, and hosts adverts to recoup their costs and make a little money.  You're not seeing the ads which pay for the show, therefore you're seeing the content without paying for it (you pay by watching the adverts).

Don't get me wrong, I do this too when I can't obtain the show another way; but I'm under NO illusion as to the legality of what I'm doing.  If people continue to do this, the people who make the shows are going to stop making them because they're not earning enough money to make it worth doing so.  I would gladly pay to download and watch the few shows I do grab, if I could.  The only shows I ever have zero guilt about downloading are BBC made shows, because as a TV licensee, I -have- paid for those shows.

Whilst EZTV aren't hosting the illegal content themselves, they ARE enabling people to access it much easier.  Therefore, whilst the site can't be shut down directly, they CAN take the route of making it harder for the average person to access it.

In theory there is no difference to downloading a TV show as there is recording it on SKY Plus

as when recorded on SKY plus i skip the adverts then too lol

You pay a subscription for Sky, which counts for most of the cost of the shows you're watching.  Also, Sky Plus records the adverts as well, you then choosing to skip them is up to you, but they were still recorded. Either way, as a subscriber, you've paid.

However, the "fee" you've paid doesn't grant you the rights to then distribute that content.

Yeah i don't understand the people saying this is wrong, if you want to illegal gain access to copywrited media then that is your choice but don't slam a company for following a court order into protecting copywrited media.

I remember when I cancelled my Sky Movies subscription, the women on the phone made a point in telling me that If I do this, then any recorded movies will also stop working as I am giving up my right to watch sky movies by unsubscribing. This just highlights this, just because you have the right to watch what is on through whatever service you have, doesn't mean you have the right to own that material.

    • I and many others did not vote to get out of the E.u because of Putin or Farage, we did so for our own reasons. You don't have to tel me what my own did or did not do when it comes to the E.U. The EEC is or was the European Economic Community, a different beast to what the E.U is now.The EEC was a mainly about trading, the E.U have gone far beyond that and as I have said before, is now more of a United States of Europe. The U.K did not vote to join a United States of Europe. Anyway, they did not want us in there in the first place, Charles de Gaulle stopped us joining as he claimed we didn’t agree with the core ideas of integration. He was not wrong and that is why we voted out of the E.U when the time came. I was not old enough to vote the first time. My only regret is that we did not have the referendum years ago and got out years ago. If we rejoined, we would have to agree to join the Euro and no doubt Schengen, agree with freedom of movement, we have enough problem with people coming over here as it is. i have no problem with people coming over here if they work and don't try to push their way of life onto us. The E.U has a currency, freedom of movement, an anthem a flag, a parliament, well they are there, not sure if they do anything. Don't sound like something that is just for trading. Oh yeah, also wanted a euro Army. How many stupid rules have the E.U made that we had to follow? I doubt I will see the Uk rejoin the E.U, which suits me. Oh yeah, my partner is Polish, she came over here before Poland joined the E.U and she got fed up of people just coming over here with ease, while she had to struggle. She is now a British citizen and have been for a fair few years

    • Screamer is 50% off on Steam, making it £24.99 here in the UK: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2814990/Screamer/ You might remember the series from the mid 90s / early 2000s, this new game is also by Milestone who created the older games.
    • U.S. partially reverses Anthropic AI ban for Mythos but keeps Fable 5 off the market by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic says that the U.S. government has finally allowed it to restore Claude Mythos 5. But of course, there's a catch. The rollout is again for a limited set of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This does not mean that Anthropic's latest frontier models are back to normal availability. Fable 5, which was a tuned version of Mythos 5 for public release, remains unavailable. Anthropic said that it is still working with the government to expand Mythos 5 access and make Fable 5 available again, but there's no timeline. Reports from Bloomberg and Reuters say that this decision actually came through a letter from the U.S. Commerce Department. According to Reuters, this would allow more than 100 companies and institutions access to Mythos 5. Reuters also reported that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s letter removes the need for export licenses for approved companies’ non-US citizen employees, as well as Anthropic’s own non-US citizen employees, while restrictions remain for organizations outside the approved list. Anthropic isn't alone with this kind of controlled rollout. OpenAI's newest model family, GPT 5.6, was announced just yesterday, but isn't available for everyone yet. In its announcement, OpenAI also said that access to these models is initially limited to a select group of trusted partners and organizations, with broader access planned later this year. Both of these cases show that frontier AI launches are no longer just ordinary product releases and more like slow and vetted deployments shaped heavily by the U.S. government.
