Post Amber/GDR2 Update : Your impressions

Recommended Posts

I have a Lumia 521:

- Battery life is better

- Data Sense is awesome

- Radio is nice

What I want Microsoft would improve:

- Allow users to remove app purchase history

- When a user pins a website to start, show the fav icon, not a screenshot of the website. (you can do this with a 3rd party app, I want it native)

- Option to clear app history without a 3rd party app. (like the music app)

- Other things I can't think of right now

There's a rumor out, well, yesterday, that GDR3 could bring with it a notification center, something backported from 8.1.   So far GDR2 is working great on my 8X.  Hard to say about battery though, It might have gotten better but I can't really tell.

Only now am I starting to feel left out as a Lumia 800 owner.

Do I get a new phone tomorrow, or more than halve the price of my contract?

If it's any consolation, I also feel left out as a Lumia 920 (at&t) owner.

I don't know what they did to the battery life with the update, but my battery life now is incredible. Before I was coming home from work with about 20% left. Yesterday I was listening to Spotify and pandora all day and came home with 85% left! Didn't charge my phone last night which is a first, trying to see how far I can stretch this out

I just upgraded my fiance's Lumia 920 to Amber. All I can say is that it is very fast and battery life become from very good to unbelievable.

I'm not sure I'm seeing significantly better battery life but the new glance screen and double-tap to wake features are really useful.

India's 520's status changed from Waiting For Approval to Coming Soon. Hopefully, it is just around the corner!  :D

The update has been released for all Lumia's in India. You should check for update.

Both those features suck a lot of battery especially double tap to wake.

I'm at the mercy of VZW releasing the update for my 822 :(

Verizon released the 822 update last month.

Settings - Phone Update

To get the Glance and other features you might need to use a tool like SysApp Pusher and get all the App listed under System like 'display' etc.

(Some of the system Apps weren't available when the 822 launched, so they don't download automatically.)

Both those features suck a lot of battery especially double tap to wake.

With Glance using the 'peek' setting the battery usage is not noticeable.

('Peek' turns on when it detects light changes, like pulling out of a pocket or wave your hand in front of light sensor at the top of the phone.)

Thanks, I updated my 822 the day when it was released :D

Phone is a little bit more snappier and the battery seems to be lasting longer than pre-GRD2.

    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?

    • Onwards to Windows 12 then lol.
    • There is a long thread (128pgs and counting) that I've been following over at ElevenForums that has a method for updating Secure Boot even if there is no BIOS upgrade. I've used this method and had zero issues. NOTE:  I do not take any responsibility if this or any other Secure Boot method bricks your system -- YMMV!  Read carefully before using!
