I don't have a clue of it works with folders, but try using forcedel.

http://www.codeguru.com/files/ForceDel.shtml

Not the comment at the bottom about possibly having to uncheck the 'Use indexing feature for this folder...' for the ones you want to delete.

I've had a /lot/ of problems with locked files and folders in the past with Windows XP - but I've always just been able to work around the problem from the dos prompt. O.o

i have tried like every security option in there... nothing FXCKING WORKS
i know you're getting frustrated man, but try one more thing. highlight all of those folders, go back into the security tab. remove ALL user names/groups except your own. if system is in there, remove that too. then reboot.

it makes logical sense to me that if you remove permission for even the system to access the folder, that when you come back from a reboot, windows would not have the ability to load/lock those folders. since your login is the only one with access, you should then be able to delete them.

i dunno if it'll work for sure but it can't hurt

FXCK YES. I GOT IT!!!!!!

HOT DAMN.

ok. what did i do? hehehe. here goes.

i selected all the files. right clicked, properties. security. i hit yes on the prompt if i wanted to reset all the perms. then i clicked advanced. went to the owner tab and doubleclicked my username and selected 'replace owner...' and then hit ok... it asked if i wanted to reset all those dir to me as the owner... i guess it was changing the perms for the dir but not for the update dir.

so the folders are gone. flish, if you want, i can write that up better and you can put it in the faq somewheres...

Whoo-hoo! Alright man! Good (Y)! (Y)

Yes, please write it up for me. I'll include it in the readme (along with the warning to those running HT enabled CPUs). I'm really glad you got that fixed!!

The funny thing is, Microsoft knows about the glitch, and actually has released two fixes to help it... but they only help two hotfixes. They haven't done it for t:no:est.

sounds like a plan.

Have one on the house, you deserve it. That was very good work on fixin' the problem! (Y) Don't forget to write up how you did it (you can just PM it to me if you want) so I can include it in the Dec release. :)

SYMPTOMS

When you install certain Windows 2000 Server or Windows XP hotfixes on a computer with a high-speed hyper-threaded processor or multiple high-speed processors, a temporary folder may remain in the root folder of one of the computer's hard disks after the hotfix is installed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs as a result of a race condition (timing issue) in certain versions of the hotfix installer components. The affected hotfix packages contain installer components that have the following attributes (or earlier) that are listed in the following table:

Date ? ? ? ? Time ? Version ? ?Size ? ?File name
---------------------------------------------------
21-Sep-2002 ?20:44 ?5.2.32.0 ? 24,576 ?Xpsp1hfm.exe ? ?
21-Sep-2002 ?20:44 ?5.2.42.0 ? 46,080 ?Spuninst.exe ? ?
21-Sep-2002 ?20:44 ?5.2.42.0 ?273,408 ? Update.exe

RESOLUTION

This problem is resolved in hotfix packages that contain hotfix installer components with the following attributes or later that are listed in the following table:

Date ? ? ? ? Time ? Version ? ?Size ? ?File name

---------------------------------------------------

14-Nov-2002 ?18:01 ?5.3.10.0 ?409,088 ?Update.exe ? ? ?

17-Dec-2002 ?21:32 ?5.3.10.0 ? 87,040 ?Spuninst.exe ? ?

17-Dec-2002 ?21:32 ?5.3.5.0 ? ?24,576 ?Xpsp1hfm.exe[/codeWORKAROUNDyle='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>WORKAROUND

To work around this problem delete the temporary folder after you install the hotfix, and then restart the computer.

So I'd say give it a shot... if it doesn't work, just try what I suggested earlier. But also, now I know to include a warning for those with Hyperthreading enable:ninja:ote] Which update is this? I think I have it :ninja:

No no... you had 2 like it (they're included in the AP and they fixed two updates), but there are other updates with the same prob and they don't have fixes yet.

 BAD NEWS!

KB number doesn't match

I think it was a XP-HE only update that updates the hotfix installer for some odd reason

Well what does it do? Out of curiousity...

Q328213 prevents an error during uninstall I guess

    • Is there a 'recovery' settings option in Settings? The one where we can rollback to a previous restore point. I find it very useful if there is some issue and I have to rollback to the last stable point.
    • Google brings Gemini to all Workspace for Education subscribers by David Uzondu Google has announced that its Gemini app is now accessible to all Google Workspace for Education users, regardless of age. This brings the company's generative AI directly into the suite of tools used by millions of students and teachers. The Workspace for Education platform, if you did not know, already provides a massive suite of tools like Classroom, Docs, and Drive, which are designed to work together in a school setting. Naturally, the first question on any administrator's mind is what the company plans to do with student data. Google states that Gemini usage for these accounts falls under the Workspace for Education Terms of Service. This agreement includes "enterprise-grade data protections" and a promise that user data is not reviewed by anyone or used to train the company's AI models. It also maintains compliance with regulations like FERPA and COPPA, which are fundamental requirements for any technology operating in United States schools. The experience is not one-size-fits-all, particularly for younger students. Users under the age of 18 will get a more restricted version of the app, with stricter content filters to prevent inappropriate responses and a dedicated onboarding process to teach AI literacy. To reduce the likelihood of hallucinations, the first time a younger user asks a fact-based question, a double-check feature that validates the answer using Google Search runs automatically. For educators and older students, the AI can be used to brainstorm ideas, create lesson plans, and get feedback on work. The entire service is powered by what Google calls LearnLM, a family of its AI models supposedly fine-tuned for educational purposes. Access is not mandatory, as administrators can still control which users or groups can use the Gemini app through their admin console. This rollout applies to institutions using the free Education Fundamentals, the security-focused Standard, and the feature-rich Plus editions, making it widely available immediately.
