Issue deleting folders

I don't have a clue of it works with folders, but try using forcedel.

Not the comment at the bottom about possibly having to uncheck the 'Use indexing feature for this folder...' for the ones you want to delete.

I've had a /lot/ of problems with locked files and folders in the past with Windows XP - but I've always just been able to work around the problem from the dos prompt. O.o

i know you're getting frustrated man, but try one more thing. highlight all of those folders, go back into the security tab. remove ALL user names/groups except your own. if system is in there, remove that too. then reboot.

it makes logical sense to me that if you remove permission for even the system to access the folder, that when you come back from a reboot, windows would not have the ability to load/lock those folders. since your login is the only one with access, you should then be able to delete them.

i dunno if it'll work for sure but it can't hurt

use that and im not at home so im not sure but theres more info in security for authoring or owern something... where you have to repermission them all to your name and you check the tab under it... lol someone help me im not at home, but ive had to do this before to give myself permissions as another admin

HOT DAMN.

ok. what did i do? hehehe. here goes.

i selected all the files. right clicked, properties. security. i hit yes on the prompt if i wanted to reset all the perms. then i clicked advanced. went to the owner tab and doubleclicked my username and selected 'replace owner...' and then hit ok... it asked if i wanted to reset all those dir to me as the owner... i guess it was changing the perms for the dir but not for the update dir.

so the folders are gone. flish, if you want, i can write that up better and you can put it in the faq somewheres...

Yes, please write it up for me. I'll include it in the readme (along with the warning to those running HT enabled CPUs). I'm really glad you got that fixed!!

The funny thing is, Microsoft knows about the glitch, and actually has released two fixes to help it... but they only help two hotfixes. They haven't done it for t:no:est. :no:

To work around this problem delete the temporary folder after you install the hotfix, and then restart the computer.

So I'd say give it a shot... if it doesn't work, just try what I suggested earlier. But also, now I know to include a warning for those with Hyperthreading enable:ninja:ote] Which update is this? I think I have it :ninja:

No no... you had 2 like it (they're included in the AP and they fixed two updates), but there are other updates with the same prob and they don't have fixes yet. :no:

I think it was a XP-HE only update that updates the hotfix installer for some odd reason :blink:

Well what does it do? Out of curiousity...

Q328213 prevents an error during uninstall I guess :whistle:
