Alternative/indie/etc rock music recommendations

Recommended Posts

Some pretty amazing songs ( to my liking) have popped up in the below threads, I was missing an important genre in my likes:

Alternative! Well, more like, Indie, folk, progressive, southern and anything not "mainstream" rock per se.

So I'll have my go:

Of monsters and men - Little talks

Paul Banks - The Base.

Edit: cr4p work filter blocks youtube

Yeah, I know there are musical services out there like last fm, but this a more "personalized" neowin version :D

Any specific song?

Hmm let's see.

For Motion City, check out:

1.  L.G. FUAD

2. This Is For Real

3. The Future Freaks Me Out

For Jack's Mannequin, check out:

1. The entire Everything In Transit album.  It's pretty awesome from beginning to end.  The Mixed Tape, La La Lie, and Dark Blue are my favs from that one.

2. Swim

3. Spinning

4. His previous band was Something Corporate and their song "If You C Jordan" is really good.

As something else sort of unique, check out "Pierce The Veil".  I'd say they're pretty post-hardcore.  I never really liked bands with the high voices like that, but the song "King For A Day" is one of the most catchy songs I've heard in a while.  Them and Brand New played at a music festival I went to this past weekend, and both played phenomenal sets.

Anberlin are really good!

Also Deaf Havana, their old stuff is more post-hardcore but lately they've been turning a lot more to alt-rock!

Pretty long list, Deftones FTW!!! ( though Koi no yokan is meh...)

Thanks!  moar is never enough :D

If you like Metal, give Sylosis a listen to.

I prefer their first album Conclusion of an Age.

Just seen them last week with Trivium, and they were amazing, unfortunately they were in an accident, and had to drop off the tour. :(

Randomly remembered this thread earlier and thought I'd pop back and give you some more suggestions and see if we can revive it a bit! These are a little on the "heavy" side but they're not post-hardcore so thought they'd fit in here since I suppose you could still class them as alt :P

One of my favourite bands right now, they are insane!

This is my favourite music video, ever.

    • I am not surprised because life is the product of a lot of biochemical and physical processes that releases various energies as a by-product. The only thing new here is the detection of these photon emissions. The researches noted this "glow" is not a metaphysical one. They don't even immediately end when one is dead. Things like fires, light bulbs, and on a bigger scale stars release a lot more "light" and they are hardly alive.
