Nokia pokes fun at Apple... Again

Recommended Posts

Saw this come across Twitter this morning.

Nokia took the time to take advantage of (another) Apple Maps goof to promote their own HERE Maps.

Lol, ironic - considering how WP market place lags well behind either iOS/Android app store/Play store. You could just use Google Maps on iOS - I still don't know why people use Apple maps, boggles my mind when I read that article yesterday.

Isn't that not even available on WP8?

WP8 doesn't have Apple Maps either, but that's not the point

They're making fun of Apple Maps, which everybody already knows is a POS.

Anybody with half a brain stopped using that junk a long time ago and downloaded Google Maps.

Apple is laughing all the way to the bank.

Yeah they are also laughing at their customers for taking premium prices for something that isn't so much premium as a whole anylonger.

If Steve Jobs had been alive and working at Apple, Apple Maps would never have been released like it did earlier.

You must be American, I can tell from the fact you don't know what irony is.

;)

Everyone always says that for every bad thing Apple does. "If Steve were alive, he would never have allowed this" blah blah blah. You know he probably knew all about maps.

I love it, much better than the Orange sat nav app i was using, haven't ended up on any run ways yet.

There are couple of things that Apple maps comes on top.  Side by side, both Nokia and Google maps are much better.  But Apple Maps is much more efficient when it comes to data, the SDK is more mature and they have more business listings.  Although most people, this doesn't really apply to.

Then I guess most every company laughs at their customers, because that's how supply & demand works. Charge the highest price the market will bear. Obviously enough people are willing to pay Apple's asking prices, so they are completely justified is charging that much. If enough people didn't, which at the present time isn't likely, prices would drop.

You gotta understand, some people never took Economics 101 at the university level.  Yet they think their opinion still makes sense :D

People seem to forget Steve Jobs was apparently okay with several flops, including the G4 Cube, KidSafe, iPod Hi-Fi, etc.

I don't know why people always assume a bad product or poorly executed idea was incapable when it came to Jobs. He was human and capable of mistakes just like anyone else.

Apple Maps is definitely a work in progress, but I've yet to use any GPS mapping software that didn't have problems with some directions.  I've had Google Maps directing me in circles in town (Take a u-turn, now take another u-turn, and at your earliest convenience another u-turn).  Nothing is perfect.  Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't understand reality.

I don't get this mentality either.  A lot of people see things in extremes.  Jobs has been getting a lot of idol worship recently...

Jobs was a marketing genius and recently passed, so there is a lot of (very well deserved) respect and appreciation for him.

I just get a little peeved when people constantly say, "If Jobs was alive, Maps wouldn't have been released," etc. First of all, unless you are Steve Jobs, you don't know his mindset and what he's thinking. Secondly, if everything Jobs did give his approval was so perfect, why did he need to market a new version of an existing product every year? If the iPhone 3G felt so much better in the hand, why wasn't that the original iPhone?

To get back on topic, though, Maps is still pretty poor compared to Google Maps, but to be fair to it, it's also much better now than it was. A lot. My neighborhood had a lot of "melted bridges" when it was first released a year ago, as well as houses that were melted and an entire school campus that was missing. That's all been fixed over the past year.

Not just that but look at all the disasters that occurred while he was in charge. I mean, there was the infamous You're Holding It Wrong? debacle with the iPhone 4 (the actual quote is "just avoid holding it that way"); there were the awful I'm A Mac/I'm A PC adverts; the poor sales of the Apple TV; the failed Ping social network, etc. He did a lot of good for the company but his record was far from perfect.

Despite the whole "You're Holding it Wrong" debacle, I think the iPhone 4 was one of the best iPhone releases "innovation" wise.  The screen was remarkable as was the build quality.  My wife is using my old iPhone 4 (she is between phones).  It was a release iPhone 4 and still has phenomenal battery life (arguably the best battery life of any iPhone) and it is in great condition.  Still looks new after 3+ years.

I could force the "You're holding it wrong" to occur, but I never had a call drop over it.  Try holding the phone up to your ear while covering that corner.  It isn't exactly comfortable to hold a phone that way up to your ear, and you look like an asshat.  But hey, it's a burn on Apple and it gave something for the anti-Apple folks to harp on to this day.  Funny, I have yet to see a single iPhone 4 owner gripe about it.  Must be because every single iPhone owner is just an iSheep, right?

Yeah, no argument there. It dramatically slimmed down the phone and was excellent for the time. Unfortunately Apple has lost its way with the iPhone 5 and 5S, which stuck to the same formula and played it safe. The company hasn't adapted to the demand for larger phones and hasn't been innovating like its competitors.
