Top Notification Panel: Wingpanel Slim (wingpanel-slim) (Replacement of Elementary OS's default "Wingpanel")
                        Author: Heath Paddock (https://plus.google.com/116826449738349409843)
                        About:
                        Instructions: http://www.elementaryupdate.com/2013/06/safely-use-wingpanel-slim.html
Guide: This will replace elementary's default wingpanel with wingpanel-slim.
First, install Elementary Tweaks by following the guide here:
                               http://www.elementaryupdate.com/2013/06/finally-elementary-tweaks.html
Once "Elementary Tweaks" is installed, follow the procedures here:
                               http://www.elementaryupdate.com/2013/06/safely-use-wingpanel-slim.html
Mod: We need to supply one fix and one adjustment for the default wingpanel-slim...
First, we need to fix the dropbox icon (If you don't have dropbox, install it now from the "Software Center")
To fix the dropbox icon, just follow the information found here:
Next, if we want to adjust the color or transparency of the panel we will need to follow this guide:
                             http://www.heath-bar.com/blog/?p=643

Launcher: Slingshot (Elementary OS Default)
          About: https://launchpad.net/slingshot or

Dock: Avant Window Navigator (AWN) (Replacement of Elementary OS's default "Plank")
Guide: This will replace elementary's default Plank dock with AWN.
First, install dconf-editor: open up a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and type:

             sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

             Next, launch dconf-editor by typing:

             dconf-editor

Now navigate to org > pantheon > cerbere
Remove 'plank' from "monitored processes"; change the value from:

             ['wingpanel', 'plank', 'slingshot-launcher --silent']

             To:

             ['wingpanel', 'slingshot-launcher --silent']

             NOTE: 'wingpanel-slim' may be in the list from our actions earlier;
just treat it simular to 'wingpanel' and leave it where it's at for now.
We only wish to focus on the removal of 'plank'

Now, reboot or just kill the plank using system monitor.
Next, Install the other dock "Avant Window Navigator"
do this by opening terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and typing:

             sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator

Configure it according to your preference; see the section on icons for custom icons.

NOTE: If you want to use Plank again, just change the value of "monitored-processes" using dconf-editor
and add plank to it. If you also wish to restore wingpanel you can simply click on "Set to Default".
NOTE: Refer to http://linuxmotion.com/tutorials/95-how-to-remove-plank-from-startup-in-elementary-os for additional information.

    • Can you still click his nose in the about box?
    • In that case this product has no value to me. I'd rather use older Creative SB that were better in my opinion or onboard audio chip.
