A help site for McDonald's employees reportedly suggests they return holiday gifts to get out of debt. :|

"You may want to also consider returning some of your unopened purchases that may not seem as appealing as they did," the McResource site reads, according to screen grabs that were posted on the website of "Low Pay Is Not OK," a group that advocates for higher fast food wages.

"Selling some of your unwanted possessions on eBay or Craigslist could bring in some quick cash," the McResource presentation reportedly said.

Low Pay Is Not OK also criticizes McDonald's for saying "breaking food into smaller pieces often results in eating less and still feeling full" and suggesting that employees, most of whom are on hourly wage schedules, try to take at least two vacations per year.

Another tip from McResource supposedly tells employees to "Stop complaining. Stress hormones rise by 15% after 10 minutes of complaining."

When contacted by Business Insider, McDonald's defended the website.

"This is an attempt by an outside organization to undermine a well-intended employee assistance resource website by taking isolated portions out of context," a spokeswoman writes in an email. "The McResource website has helped countless employees by providing them with a variety of information and resources on topics ranging from health and wellness to stress and financial management."

Don't change the salary.  Not to sound cruel or heartless but every position in the world doesn't deserver top dollar or even a "living wage".  Some positions are designed for the minimum amount possible.  McDonald's may pay little per hour but there are plenty of success stories of people who are just associates who worked their way up to manager's and executives positions within the company.

As in anything in life if you have the will to do it then you will find a way.  However people who don't want to put forth any effort, made bad life decisions, or never have any desire to get promoted should not be rewarded for that.

I'd say it was pretty sound advice for somebody that is broke. Don't hoard **** you don't need, and stop stuffing your face.

Also, I don't think that site is run by Mc D's

Interesting that you are implying that people who don't have enough money because of where they work are fat...not seeing the corelation.

Only Americans would consider it reasonable to work a full time job and still fail to make ends meet. Apparently it seem some of the more hardcore right wingers still haven't wrapped their minds around the idea that simple economies of scale dictate that there will always be more low end jobs than high end ones in a normal economy.

dah fu*k? the company chooses the pay rate its not something Americans vote for. The only Americans that are happy with Mcd's salaries are the people in the offices getting the extra cash bags.  No political party represents Americans and the company's are not controlled by the american government.

Better advice: Don't try to make a career out of a job suited for teenagers working part time.

I am guessing you are American by your statement but in most of the developed world such as Australia McDonalds pays their employers about 16 dollars USD an hour after the conversion and the prices are not really that much higher than in the states.  Some people do not have a choice. Most the employers at McDonalds and other fast food are on government assitance such as food stamps, reduced electricity , government housing etc in the USA. This is a big reason why the USA keeps going in debt and down the toilet. Prosperous countries like Australia pay a living wage. If you look at countries like a bussiness usa is far from prosperous but is a bankrupt bussiness.

PS: So higher hourly wage is not going to make the price of a burger sky rocket etc. Things such as real estate and price of meat etc effect price so much more than hourly wages. Hourly wages only effect a small perctange of the total cost of a burger since they output 100s and hour. Most McDonalds items are the same price in Aus and some maybe just a little bit more expenisve like 15 cents but this is mainly because the meat quality and other ingrediants is much higher in Australia and other countries outside of the USA. The standards for McDonalds outside USA have higher quality ingrediants and less of the bad fats and things etc. These other countries have higher standards in food and wages.

No wonder so many Americans are trying to escape that hell hole and come to Australia. Gov spying on them, no workers rights, low pay, and high taxes in usa.

Its funny that America has to rely on a COMMUNIST banker ( aka china ) just to stay afload and pay its bills. The math is impossible and sooner or later the American empire will fall just like the Roman empire and others as well. History repeats itself. At least the war machine will be broke and the planet might have some peace for once as well.

Australia's per capita debt exceeds the US.  Not sure where you get that prosperous idea.

Australia has AAA credit according to all 3. USA does not have AAA credit with all 3 credit agencies.  I dont know where you get your facts but Autralia has one of the lowest debts.

Anyways McDonald's is just another example of American greed. At least other countries out there pay a living wage etc.

If I want a better paying job, I go get one.  I work for it.  I don't expect anything to be handed to me and yet, we should pay someone flipping burgers 20 dollars an hour when they're next to useless.  No.  No thanks.

I suggest Mcd00ds pays their employee's more money.

When they turn over billions every year in profits, then they should.

They made $4,900,000,000 in 2012 after running costs and taxes.

Or have a profit sharing scheme.

Some people don't have the education to get a job doing something else.

They may not of had the same chances as the teenies they work with or other people taking the urine out of them in this thread.

At least they are working and not screwing the welfare system.

Who said anything about paying them 20 an hour? I guess you don't want to pay them a living wage so you dont mind them being on food stamps and government housing that YOU have to pay for. The rest of the world gets the living wage concept except Americans is so strange lol. Plus McDonalds in most other countries have to provide 6 weeks paid vacation. Not even good jobs in USA get 6 weeks 1st year.

Everyone watch this video will open your eyes.

Your link shows only government debt. My remark was referring to your country's total external debt compared to the US's.  And based on that Australia's per capita debt is $52,596 vs the US per capita debt of $52,170.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_external_debt

And I do agree McDonald's needs to increase their base pay, but the belief they are only paying $7.25/hour is nonsense.

They're already whining for $15. Give them them that and they'll be protesting for $20 by 2018.

Dude even 12 bucks an hour would be fine. They are making your food don't complain if you get food poison then with low wages or they mess up your order. You get what you pay for. By 2018 maybe they would want 17 an hour because of something called inflation so its not a pay raise just keeping up with inflation. Just like you would want a raise with your job.  Federal min wage is only 7.25 an hour with highest state Washington at under 9 an hour. This is hardly anything. It just keeps them trapped and on government assistance that you have to pay for . See the big picture. They are making billions in profits. Why do you care so much against it? You don't want to pay an extra 7 cents for your Hamburger? Living wage is realistic ok not 20 bucks an hour those are the extremest but 13-15 an hour is fair depending what part of USA you live in. This is barely a living wage itself but it enough for them to get off government/welfare assitance. Win win for everyone. Do not complain then about people who are working full time and being on government assistance when you do not want to pay them a living wage to better themselves. Even if they choose not to better themselves at this wage 13-15 an hour depending on area in USA ( due to economics ) this wage they would all be off gov assistance.

Pay them a living wage ok we are not talking about luxury wage but a living wage so they can better themselves and get off government assistance.

Ya, Henry Ford should have just paid his factory floor workers the lowest wages he possibly could, and pocketed the difference. It's not like a livable wage or a livable minimum wage created the middle class or anything. /s

Does anyone understand that the more money people have, the more money they spend?

If more and more people every year are able to afford less and less, you can say good bye to whatever company you work for, and your job.

It's no coincidence that wages over last decade have risen slower than anytime since the Great Depression, and corporate profits are higher than ever in history. Think about that, and ask yourself how long that can last.

Good thread with interesting thoughts from several posters. I just can't get past the supply & demand part of this. If McDonalds couldn't find workers willing to accept the pay offered, McDonalds would have no choice but to raise wages. People pretty much get paid what they are worth. That's why my wife makes 50k a year as a Special Ed teacher and Tom Brady is pulling in 31 million this year. Teachers are a dime-a-dozen, but quality NFL QBs are not. Believe me, I'm a Vikings fan :(

Supply and demand. If you want to make more, get more skills. Mickey D's is a job best suited for teens just getting started in the working world and retirees looking to stay busy. If older folks, non-managerial ones, are working there, then they don't need to make much money or for whatever reason don't have the skill set to earn more somewhere else.

I'm sorry, but not everyone in the world is going to be make a lot of money.

I'm implying that people are greedy and stupid. Unfortunately, some people can't afford to be, and would do well to heed the advice given.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. The technical specs of the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor M.2 2280 Interface PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0 NAND Flash Samsung V-NAND TLC Controller Samsung In-house Controller Cache Memory Samsung 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM Sequential Read Speed Up to 7,450 MB/s Sequential Write Speed Up to 6,900 MB/s Random Read (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,400,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD1) Up to 80,000 IOPS Operating Temperature 0°C to 70°C Reliability (MTBF) 1.5 Million Hours Endurance 1,200 TBW (Total Bytes Written) Get it at the link below: Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM): $369.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • Glad im on the right boat. Tidal has lots of issues in terms of app and music mix, its worst than spot but its honest. Spot algo is very tendentious and they pess less to artists, so im comfortable with the tidal errors, for now.
