I knew it. McDonald's is part of the war on Christmas. Get 'em, Fox.

Haha... "Low Pay Is Not OK"

Cool story, get a better job.... problem solved.

Gee, I wonder why they didn't think of that.

Australia's per capita debt exceeds the US.  Not sure where you get that prosperous idea.

That doesn't dictate prosperity. According to Legatum, Australia ranks 7th overall.

Ya, Henry Ford should have just paid his factory floor workers the lowest wages he possibly could, and pocketed the difference. It's not like a livable wage or a livable minimum wage created the middle class or anything. /s

Does anyone understand that the more money people have, the more money they spend?

If more and more people every year are able to afford less and less, you can say good bye to whatever company you work for, and your job.

It's no coincidence that wages over last decade have risen slower than anytime since the Great Depression, and corporate profits are higher than ever in history. Think about that, and ask yourself how long that can last.

You're forgetting the fact that if wages rise, so do prices.  So everybody except for those few employees can now afford less.  If McDonalds is forced to pay high wages for their employees, perhaps they'll have to do away with the dollar menu, which is a massive part of their income.  So they have to pay more money out of their pocket towards wages, and they'll have less money coming in from less customers.  No offense, but your opinion doesn't have much business sense.

In addition, companies have shareholders to please by increasing profits year-over-year.  That's Capitalist America, and it's not going to change.

Interesting that you are implying that people who don't have enough money because of where they work are fat...not seeing the corelation.

Because you get a free meal while on break, and also, carbs are less expensive then healthier alternatives at grocery stores, well known, the correlation is there.

- I worked there for a year in my younger days to pay off some stuff while in school, so just my experience, but it held up.

Simple, they're lazy.

Nope. It's this attitude that allows these scumbag companies to continue to treat workers like dirt. Between this and walmart asking employees to provide co-workers with charity you get a sense of just how little these companies care about their employees.

Some of the poorest paid people have some of the most physically demanding jobs.

Well companies typically don't care about their employees. Especially huge companies that have millions of shareholders to please.

It sucks, I know, but that's just what capitalist America has become.

Regardless, anybody can pick up a newspaper or go to monster.com and browse through thousands and thousands of job openings.

If I drive through a commercial area, a lot of the restaurants and stores have "help wanted" signs out front.  People truly have no excuse for not having a job or being unhappy.

A big problem is that too many people either can't pass a pi*s test, or they'd rather sit on their butt and wait for the government to give them everything they need.  Sure companies are becoming more powerful by the day, but the traditional American motto of working hard to be successful is all but gone.

I didn't forget anything, I'm just better informed than you.

Prices are only effected in areas that rely on low wage workers, like the food industry.

For a 12% gain in wages, you get a rise in prices that's about 1/3 that of normal inflation, or about 1%.

The rise in prices is insignificant, to say the least.

And, McDonald's has already done away with the dollar menu. Now it's the "Dollar Menu & More", where items are as much as $5.

I bet a lot of the folks against raising the wage are right-wingers....

Funny thing is that most Walmart and McDonald employees have to supplement their income off of the backs of tax payers.  How the hell is that fair at all?  If they pay their employees a living wage then they would have to increase their prices.  That seems like a fairer system: The customers of Walmart and McDonald's have to help pay for the employees that work there.  How the hell is it fair that I, someone who does not shop at Walmart or McDonald's, have MY taxes going to THEIR employees?

You guys want your taxes lowered?  Want a fair market for MAIN street?  Or just want your tax-subsidized WalMart and McDonald's GMO filth to put into your bodies?  Wacko birds.

General welfare is opposed by the right, corporate welfare on the other hand . . .

I was responding to the nukenorman post in it's entirety not just the prosperity aspect.  Please try to keep my remark in context to the post I was responding to, thanks.  :)

A very good article - http://247wallst.com/special-report/2013/11/15/ten-companies-paying-americans-the-least/

I would rather pay more for a hamburger if that means better pay for the employees and better quality product-wise. Eating at fast food places is for the convenience, not really for the quality of the food in regards to the taste and nutrition. These companies make very good profits and can afford to provide better pay and benefits while still rewarding their investors with reasonable dividends.

You implied Aus isn't prosperous due to our debt level. That is false. Please articulate your points more clearly in the future.

    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
