Mine seems to work better right in the middle. The install game gives the same recommendation, up to something like 1.7m high but in some games it will complain it can't see floor at that height for me. I'm building a small shelf to go right under the tv

I found this, it's not in english.

I don't have any games, I just want to use the voice command for now.

But, they make Kinect mounts for under the TV don't they?

My housemate and I were geeking out last night with my XB1 that arrived.  There were so many "WOW" moments.  My favourite was when he came back inside after a smoke and the Kinect automatically signed him in using facial recognition and then a  "Welcome <snip>..."  notification appeared and we were BOTH signed in.

Oh, and achievements and status updates are earnt for all signed in profiles so it didn't matter who was "playing", we were there together.  It's a very social and much welcomed experience.

I believe they do, i just enjoy working in my wood shop too :) I'll make something that matches my media shelf or speaker cabinets because i'm strange like that.

It is awesome.. it makes gaming with my kids so much easier. They no longer default to my profile because it was such a hassle to have their own and with it recognizing them when they walk in they won't go in and crash all of dad's career mode cars.

Indeed!  It's awesome.  I can only imagine if you have friends over and it signing the entire room in automatically.

Honestly, I see why Microsoft was so intent of bundling a Kinect with the console itself.  It's a core part of the experience, even if you don't want to use it for voice commands or games.  It makes a lot of the previous manual labour automatic so you can just enjoy.

I'm going to have to set this feature up, that way my roommate and I are automatically logged in.

As for why Micrsoft was so intent, it was so the government can spy on us. /s

I like the sound of the xboxone but the only caveat of me getting one is the sensitivity of the camera... this was taken at a demo of xboxones camera

know what that is? genitalia. call me scared or freakish but I'm thinking about my 2 daughters and sons sake. and someone recently. then on the flip side a man had his account banned because he videos his drunk naked wife on his PS4.. http://nypost.com/2013/11/25/husband-broadcasts-drunk-naked-wife-on-playstation-4/

not trying to hijack the thread but this is something that has really caught my eye. so somebody IS monitoring what you do on your console in some way.

sorry my 2 cents... back on topic.

Hung like a horse. How old are your 2 daughters? If they are old enough to identify a bulge in a guys pants then I wouldn't worry about Kinect.

The PS4 guy was live-streaming...

Didn't MS come out and say that Kinect cannot see through clothing? I'm not sure what the issue is here. IS that pic proof that it can see through clothing? I really cant tell.

So what is your concern specifically? Are you concerned that a camera might be able to see through clothes or that some people would use it to post 'adult' things that your children might see via the console?

There are plenty of privacy settings to block your kids from viewing such content if your worried about that. You could also disable Kinect functions for them entirely if your worried it can see through their clothes.

All I will say is that from my own usage or testing, I have seen nothing that would make me think it can see through my clothes. And no, I'm not going to get naked in front of it to compare

Time for me to chime in on my launch experience.

Due to my own stupidity, I had to make a 90min round trip to the next town over to pick it up.

Once I got home is when the problems began.

Unboxing:  Protective plastic on the shiny parts was not completely covering the unit, so there is some surface scratches.  This is a non-issue, just a sad inconvenience.

Controller is not assembled properly.  The left palm grip is off by about .5MM which means the outer edge has a ridge, and the inner edge has a sharp edge where the three plastic bits meet.  I felt soreness where the ridge was after playing DR3 for 3 hrs straight.

The rest of my experience is in line with the rest of the folks here.

I don't know how to join my friend's DR3 game though, as online seems to do automagic matchmaking.

Same problem with mine which also causes it to wobble which I mentioned in the launch topic. Shoddy quality all round in my experience.

You guys should really get those replaced. I wouldn't put up with it being that off.

Believe me, I've been trying. MS support has been nothing but useless as many other members/past members have witnessed publicly too.

The controller wobble was supposed to be sarcasm but if the seam is split, get it replaced

No, it wasn't sarcasm and I wasn't trying to compare it to PS4 wobble either. My X1 controller wobbles because it isn't assembled correctly.

Wait, so they wont replace it?

Is it the one that came with the system?

Yup.

It's a long story I've already gone over too many times, so I won't repeat it here. I've had enough of it tbh and if I can't get a proper solution by the end of the week I'll be getting a refund from Amazon (N).

That sucks, well at least then you can get a proper replacement via Amazon.

Also, did you get your X1 replaced? You had a bad disc drive right?

Amazon are no help either. I've probably spent 10 hours or more talking to both Amazon and MS since Friday trying to get a replacement bundle. Nothing replaced yet and probably won't ever be.

And no, I have a damaged console among other issues. Haven't used it because either way it's going back for a replacement or refund.

wow, ok I obviously don't know why in the world your having trouble even getting Amazon or Microsoft to replace your system, but I hope they come to their senses and do it.

I haven't heard anyone else have trouble getting a replacement secured from one of the two.  Although I have seen a few that were told by Amazon that they didn't have the stock to replace it immediately.

Hopefully you actually get to start using a working console soon enough.  There is a lot to explore as an early adopter.

So far I like the XB1 very much and like the experience. Has anyone got it setup to interact with a Panasonic sound bar unit (with sub woofer)? I get sound as expected but the IR blast to shut it off doesn't work for some reason. I may have to play with some settings still, as I feel I missed something. Anyway, so far overall positive outlook on things.

Anyone having issues with the Xbox One Wireless? I have the AirPort Extreme, it's on the second floor and my Xbox One is down stairs, right below it. I'm only getting 2 bars with it. Thinking about getting one of those NetGear extenders and running ethernet to it.

Why can't you just go into your Orders and do a Return/Replacement on the item? Amazon doesn't hassle you to do that and it won't cost you anything to return it if it is defective.

The other option is go online to your xboxstore.com account, go to manage your devices and request repair. That's pretty automated also.

I was thinking that as well. The Amazon method is especially painless and automated.

I can certainly return the item no problem, but that's not what I want to do. I want a replacement Day One bundle. Something that was made in a limited quantity. Same issue with Microsoft. I can set up a repair but I won't receive the same thing back.

If you start a return on Amazon does it allow you to only select Refund, and not allow Replacement?

They don't have stock of the bundle any more so the only option is to return. They had the cheek to tell me they can see shops with stock who do. Amazon sellers touts who are selling it for ?799 ($1300). More have gone up for sale since then and they're trying to beat each other so the price has come down, but that isn't a solution to my problem. Amazon or Microsoft should be the ones replacing it and neither want to take responsibility.

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
