I've always wondered that too. Great minds think alike I guess.

I always wanted to know what will happend if I urinate at this kind of cold temp. Will me urine freez instantly? Hummmm....

According to Sir Ranulph Fiennes, your penis could very well freeze off if exposed for too long, he lost fingers due to a '3 minute mistake' <his words>

Oh darn - I guess space travel to Pluto is off the table, lol.

Several groups, mainly those who profit from fossil fuels, have a divested interest in debunking global warming. The first tactic was to show that no warming was occurring. They stuck with that until the evidence became so overwhelming, and publicly known, that it was unequivocally foolhardy. Now the tactic is to show that even though they were wrong and that warming is occurring, it is not caused by the use of fossil fuels and human intervention is useless.

Yes, they have. And what are you going to do about it? I, for one, have no sympathy for mankind in general. Why are some people imagining that we're having a jolly good time here?

Well, I'm not going to stop driving my car, or using electricity  ;)

There's a few things that everyone can easily do about it:

1) We can all operate on the same facts. Warming is occurring. It is caused by humans. It will cause catastrophic consequences. Also, we can alleviate a lot of the consequences by adapting to the inevitable changes now instead of waiting for catastrophes to force us to.

2) There are several simple things we can do in our daily lives. Recycle, use LED light bulbs, buy a hybrid or even an electric vehicle if it's practical/affordable, fit your home for solar if it's practical, etc.. If everyone did these things alone it would make a significant impact.

3) Request change from our lawmakers and support the innovation of renewable energy. Call them, email them, and vote for representatives that promote action on climate change, and/or renewable energy. This isn't a liberal/conservative issue. There are good people on both sides of the aisle that fit the bill. The most significant solutions to climate change will come from private industry and the government.

I have sympathy for myself in 20-40 years. I have sympathy for my kids and grandkids. There's no point in crying over spilled milk. This is just a problem that exists that poses a challenge. Problems have solutions, and challenges are met.

Maybe because some of us are having a jolly good time here, and we want to keep it that way?

Yeah, great. And when everyone will use electric vehicles, can scientists please explain how we will produce all the electricity needed to charge all the cars at night ? considering they already need to cut off at winters when it's too cold because people use too much power, that's total nonsense. And recycling the batteries is also a huge problem. Electric vehicles are as stupid as it can be, and it's only pushing the problem several years later.

1) It is not caused *solely* by humans (it is accelerated). Global warming has happened many times already, coupled with ice ages. Mind the wording - green people get a lot of misplaced hate for this alone.

It will cause catastrophic consequences for most living beings, that is true. Pity that certain animals are in danger, I'd care of them first, but, alas, not everyone can or must be saved.

We might or we might not alleviate consequences because climate changes do not happen overnight and woe if one thinks changes can be stopped or even reversed. We will have to walk this road sooner or later.

2) You're telling how everybody should live their lives. We got enough of those folks, thank you very much.

3) You're basing your opinion on USA government. Try telling that to China and especially overpopulated India who just don't give an eff, politically unstable African regions, other overpopulated regions and a huge bunch of 3rd world countries whose whole economy is based on specific kind of trade, and the list is not yet complete.

I also say with certainty that many folks on this list aren't having a good time. It's poverty (despite long, hard working hours), insufficient housing, poor hygiene, crime, homicide, wars and other misery they're having, and not a single thing will change if global warming would friggin' -poof- and disappear one day to never come back.

Your view is hardly driven by forethought or compassion, but instead by egoism; you argue of global processes, but do not consider the global circumstances.

There are much larger problems to solve.

A cool day, but you need -220?F (-140?C) to freeze CO2 out the air into dry ice ?snow.? THAT would be a really cold day ;)

Coldest in Michigan: Jan. 19th, 1994 in Amasa, -53F?. Coldest wind chill: -127F? in Sault Ste. Marie. A bit brisk.

Man!

You DIDN'T have to specify Michigan, did you?

Been about cold enough to freeze the balls off a charging rhino here, for a while already!

Can't say as I remember it being this cold, and having this much snow on the ground, this early in the season.

I always say that if there's snow on the ground on my birthday, 11-29, it's going to be a hard/snowie winter. The Farmers Almanac says it IS supposed to be cold, but not as much snow as usual, or at least as much as most other areas.

Been watching that one show about Alaska some lately and wonder how those people can tolerate that crap!!

Actually, I did have to specify as Alaska, the Dakota's, Montana and northern Minnesota can get colder.

Alaska: -80F? (actual)

Montana: -70F? (actual)

etc.

In these areas people often have electric heaters for their cars drive line, cooling system and battery (plus a trickle charger) to stop them from freezing up.

Some of us just gave up and installed insulation and a dedicated gas furnace in our garage. Ours is a 100,000 BTU overhead unit.

Electric Vehicles use batteries to store power, they dont need a constant solar energy source to remain operational during the night.

And one of the better EV accessories is a solar panel setup. Your solar setup sells power to the utility company during the day at peak kWh prices (your meter runs backwards), then you charge the vehicle using off-peak (cheaper) power.

1) It is not caused *solely* by humans (it is accelerated). Global warming has happened many times already, coupled with ice ages. Mind the wording - green people get a lot of misplaced hate for this alone.

As well as other natural causes...

I didn't mean for that line to be taken verbatim, but in conjunction with what I'd posted previously, and had hopefully been read and understood.

At least half of warming over the last 50 years has been caused by humans. And, that's just the half that scientists are 95% sure of.

No matter how you qualify it, human activities are an extremely significant factor in this warming period.

There are much larger problems to solve.

Do you have a family? If your house was on fire, would you save the dog before your kids? Would you just lay down and die along with your family because maybe not everyone can or must be saved?

I'm not telling anyone how to live their lives... be reasonable. You asked a question and I gave an answer. There are things that everyone can easily do to help with the problem. If you don't want to be part of the solution, that's totally up to you, and we certainly have plenty of people who are content to do nothing but nit pick and idly complain, thank you very much ;)

The consequences absolutely can be alleviated. Or, we can just keep making things worse while not preparing for what we know is coming and take our chances.

India has the 5th largest wind powered grid and is aggressively implementing solar. China will install 1/3 of the world's solar capacity next year. China and India are actually doing much more on this issue than the U.S. in many ways.

Your view is driven by extremes of pessimism, cynicism, and depression. Those problems do exist, and the consequences of climate change will only compound them. Do you really think those people that aren't having a "good time" would rather have a much worse time?

There are other problems to solve, but they aren't larger.

I... may have been under inappropriately high amount of stress at the time of my previous posting in this thread that clouded my thoughts and disregarded limits.

I still sort of feel the same way, but, in the cold light, I now realise it's me who is egoistic and incompassionate. Apologies to the readers and posters of Neowin. :pinch:

    • Microsoft further improving Windows 11 Taskbar with latest builds by Sayan Sen Microsoft has released new Windows 11 builds for users flighting the Experimental channels. The new builds are 26300.8758 for Windows 11 26H2, 28120.2374 for 26H1, and 29617.1000 for future platforms. There are improvements related to the Taskbar, File Explorer and more with the new update. The full changelogs are given below: First we have the build 26300.8758: Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out [Taskbar] Taskbar customization just got easier. As we continue to make improvements to the Taskbar experience mentioned last month, we've introduced a dedicated Taskbar Size setting, making it simpler to find, understand, and personalize your ideal taskbar experience. UI showing the new Taskbar Size setting in Settings. We've also made refinements to the transitions between taskbar sizes for a smoother overall experience. [File Explorer] We've improved the reliability of thumbnail previews for cloud files in the Details pane. The pane has also been reorganized so file properties are easier to find and review at a glance. Fixed an issue where the OneDrive shortcut in File Explorer stops working when File Explorer is run in administrative mode. Fixed an issue where the confirmation dialog might display an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original file name when permanently deleting a file. [Sounds] Improved system sounds when using Windows in dark mode. Up next we have build 28120.2374: Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes [Mobile Device Settings] You can add and manage your mobile devices in Settings under Bluetooth & Devices > Mobile Devices. On this page, you can manage features such as using your device as a connected camera or accessing your device's files in File Explorer. [Remote Recovery Management] Added a recovery remote management plug-in to extend WinRE management capabilities for MDM providers. [Input] The emoji panel (Windows key + period (.)) now uses GIPHY as the GIF provider, delivering a smoother GIF browsing and sharing experience following the deprecation of the Tenor API. Finally we have the changelog for Windows 11 build 29617.1000: Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out [Windows Update] As announced in the Windows Update announce blog, we are now bringing a new unified update experience to reduce the number of reboots you see per month. We are starting by coordinating driver, .NET, and firmware updates to align with the monthly quality update, reducing the update experience to a single monthly restart. See the blog for more information. [Windows Magnifier] Magnifier now gives you more control over how you zoom. You can type an exact zoom percentage directly in the magnifier toolbar to land on precisely the level you need. We've also added preset step increments (5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 150%, 200%, and 400%) to the Settings dropdown, so you can jump to common levels in a single click. Whether you need a subtle boost or a dramatic close-up, Magnifier adapts to how you want to zoom. Enter an exact percentage or jump to preset steps —5% up to 400%. Feedback: Share your thoughts in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Accessibility > Magnifier. [Accessibility] We're introducing screen tint, a new accessibility setting that applies a color overlay across your entire display, softening its intensity so it's easier on your eyes throughout the day. If bright, saturated screens leave you with tired or sensitive eyes by the end of a long session, screen tint can help. Screenshot showing UI for screen tint in Accessibility, with color presets and a strength slider. To get started, open Settings > Accessibility (or press WIN + U) and look for screen tint under the Vision section. From there, you can: Pick from six preset colors or choose a custom color of your own. Adjust the tint strength slider from a subtle wash to full intensity. Night light warms your display to reduce blue light that can interfere with sleep. Screen tint reduces overall screen intensity to ease eye fatigue and light sensitivity during the day. They tackle different problems and you can use both at the same time, one working on warmth and the other on intensity. Note that turning on screen tint will disable color filters, and vice versa. If you currently rely on color filters, you might need to keep screen tint turned off. Feedback: Share your thoughts in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Accessibility > Narrator. [Voice Access] Voice Access now supports Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), and Korean (South Korea). [Audio] Continuing our work on improving Sound Settings, we've made a few more updates in this build: We've adjusted the description text for the Allow option in properties for audio devices to include the current state of the device, to improve the clarity of the text and the purpose of the button actions. "Listen to this device" is now available in properties for audio devices, so you don't need to enter Control Panel for this functionality. [Multiple Desktops] Improved explorer reliability when switching between multiple desktops. [Storage] We've updated the dialog when creating a Dev Drive to now support specifying the size in GB instead of only MB. This has also been added when changing the size of volumes under Settings > System > Storage. [Personalization] This update improves color selection accuracy when adjusting your accent color to match your wallpaper when automatic accent color selection is enabled in Personalization settings. This update improves wallpaper persistence reliability across restarts and upgrades, including better support for large-resolution wallpapers and other scenarios to prevent solid color wallpaper fallback. [Display and Graphics] Improves the reliability and persistence of applying color profiles. You can view the official blog posts here (link1, link2, link3) on Microsoft's site.
    • Windows 11 is getting redesigned taskbar settings in new build by Taras Buria Microsoft is rolling out new Windows 11 preview builds in the Insider program, offering users new features and changes to try ahead of public release. In the Experimental channel (formerly Dev), Microsoft is shipping build 26300.8758, while in the Beta channel, users can download build 26220.8754. The changelogs do not contain much, but there is an important update to taskbar settings. Here is what is new in build 26220.8754: [Taskbar] Taskbar customization just got easier. As we continue to make improvements to the Taskbar experience mentioned last month, we've introduced a dedicated Taskbar Size setting, making it simpler to find, understand, and personalize your ideal taskbar experience.
