A southern California family reunited with their dog last month after he went missing in Arizona more than a year ago.

The improbable reunion, they say, feels like a sign from above. Meko, the O?Brien   family?s 4-year-old Brussels Griffon, vanished during a family vacation in Parker, Arizona.

?I woke up and I wondered where Meko was,? said 7-year-old Mady O?Brien. Her family looked for him everywhere, putting up signs and praying for his safe return. ?He was just gone,? said Mady?s mother, Dana.

Mady was devastated never forgot her best friend. But everything changed in May, when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. ?It?s been a rough six months,? Dana O?Brien said. After an intense surgery, almost 30 chemotherapy and radiation treatments and countless hospital visits, Mady struggled to walk again.

Last month, Dana O?Brien got a phone call as she and Mady were on their way to another round of chemotherapy. The Yavapai Humane Society was calling to say Meko had turned up on the streets of Prescott, Arizona.

A microchip led volunteers to the O?Brien?s phone number, and James O?Brien made the 400-mile trek to pick him up. ?Meko?s back,? Mady said, smiling.

For Mady?s parents, Meko?s return was more than just a story of a girl and her dog. They believe his return was one almost impossible prayer answered, and now they have one more to go. Mady O?Brien has three more rounds of chemotherapy at Children?s Hospital of Orange County.

?We can just move forward, it?s the start of things going right,? James said. ?This was, you know, kind of the answer that things are going to be okay,? Dana said. ?This was good news that our family had gotten and that it would be the start of more.?

A sign from above? They really believe that when their poor child has been inflicted with a terrible disease. I'll never understand people.

What a twit.  Let the family believe what they want if it provides comfort for them.

I don't know.  You also have documented cases where people have deliberately let their sick kid die because some medical treatment is against their religion.  I'm all for letting others believe what they want, but when beliefs endanger people, I become very anti-religion.

Fortunately in this case, they're not letting their beliefs in "signs from above" become a problem.  Hopefully they don't decide they need "less medical help, more prayers".

Sure seems like a made-up story to me ...

Good catch. Case closed.

    • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
