The Nintendo 3DS XL does not include a charger?

Recommended Posts

Recently i was looking at getting an Nintendo 3DS XL for Christmas and was really surprised to find out you don't get a charger with it!

I can't understand why something so essential would not be included?, i mean its not like the console is solar powered or anything...

From what i've read on-line Nintendo expect you to have a charger from a previous DS console? Well yes I have a DS Lite charger, which according to the internet is incompatible with the 3DS XL anyway... Luckily i knew this from reading reviews before buying the 3DS XL, i just wonder how many people are going to get a 3DS XL this Christmas and not be able to use it?

On Amazon the very last paragraph after a massive description states "An AC adapter is not included with the Nintendo 3DS, but can be purchased separately.", hardly very prominent for something i would consider vital information.

Nintendo have had some great innovations over the years, however i've always thought Nintendo have made some really silly decisions too... this been the latest i'll probably never understand the point of.

Haha what?! Not including a charger must be some sad joke...I mean...what?! Do you see any of the other companies saying anything like "Oh you should have a charger from your last phone, so we're not giving you one". That is just a silly argument - it means they're only trying to sell to existing customers and not expanding their customer base. I am sorry to say, Nintendo has really lost the plot and they're going to go the way of RIM and the dinosaurs...for different reasons, but dead is still dead.

not sure  why this is an issue when it is not because all #DXLs come with AC adapter

If you really believe that Nintendo is going to die anytime soon... Then you're doing a good job at matching your name with your post.

It doesn't come with one in all regions. Also some regions include the USB charger cable, and some don't.

My Zelda Link Between Worlds edition came with a charger?  How can it not!?

Strange, it must vary between region then, the ones i've seen on sale here in the UK certainly don't include an AC adaptor.

Amazon.com - Lists an AC adaptor as been included in the box

Amazon.co.uk - "An AC adapter is not included with the Nintendo 3DS, but can be purchased separately"

Even the Nintendo Service Center UK website states:

Q: My Nintendo 3DS XL doesn?t have a charger
A: Nintendo 3DS XL consoles do not come with a charger as standard. To find out more about where to get hold of a charger for your Nintendo 3DS XL, read below

Whatever argument is put forward, not including something as necessary as a charger is a terrible move!

Agreed :/

It's like purchasing an Xbox 360 and Microsoft going "we didn't include a power brick with this console revision, your last 360 probably had an RRoD so you already have one"

Fixed.

To be short, Wii U sales are not looking too healthy and their revenue is on a significant and steady decline.

On topic. Interesting to see why they did not include it for the EU...perhaps because the EU has rationalized phone chargers, is looking to do the same for laptops, and Nintendo fears they may force consoles/handhelds to do the same?

For some reason Nintendo thinks you will already own a 3DS in JP and EU and have the charger available and will own units for some reason.  Thankfully here in NA it came with it, as I haven't owned a DS since the original DS.  Seems kind of silly as some people will be buying something like this for the first time.

What's next, second analog stick sold separately? Oh wait...

Barely any games use the Circle pad pro anyways. Also, if the 3DS did come with a second analog stick built in, where would it go? The design is compact as it is and it takes the layout base on it's predecessors.

Yeah it is ######ing annoying that it isn't included. I picked up a 3DS XL a few months back and was annoyed I had to buy the charger for ?7 extra! I believe it is just a European (and Japan?) thing though as the US gets the charger. Cheap ass Nintendo :(

Holy ######, that's steep.

I'm in two frames of mind about this, it really should come with one. It's an essential part of the console and it isn't even clearly stated on the front of the box that the charger isn't included. At the same time though, if the charger was included they'd just have put the price up to include it and we'd be none the wiser, people complain that it costs more but that's only because you see what you're paying for it and I suppose for people that do already have a compatible charger it's a small saving. In general though I think it really should be included, I was never told it didn't come with one and in April when I got a 3DS I got home eager to play only to find I'd need to wait till the next day to go back to the shop and buy a charger :(

I doubt not including a charger saves all that much money. They are selling them @ a cost of 7 pounds (~13 AUD, ~ 11.50USD), that is an incredible price hike. If they were manufacturing them in bulk and including them it would cost very little to produce them.

I know, that's why I said "small saving".

    • Plans. Christ at least editorialise this tripe for what it is or put your own journalistic take on it.
    • If you have a TV in your living room, chances are you can probably just use the Steam Link app and play your huge PC in big picture mode, effectively giving you the Steam Machine experience to see if you'd actually like it. The good news is the Steam Machine can have it's drives upgraded. It has a USB-C 10Gbs port as well, so the 512GB drive could be quickly moved to an external enclosure and repurposed.
    • This machine could very well be a second gaming PC for their living room as a console experience. So we would have to assume their main PC exists as well; With that said, I have 10gb home network with a 2.5gigabit internet connection here so we tend to have more than enough speed to download games. However, we can't make use of the 10gb LAN using Steam's built in transfer tool because it always compresses transfers and that slows the transfer down to well below a standard gigabit port speeds, sometimes as slow as 200-300Mb/s transfers. While that's probably still faster than most internet connections anyway, if they'd fix the LAN transfer issue it'd be upto x5 faster even on a gigabit LAN, than simply dropping a 2.5gbe port on there with hopes of a few people having fast internet connections. There are solutions, work arounds, like using LANCache if you run a NAS... or simply copying the files over manually using a network share.
    • Samsung announces ultra-fast UFS 5.0 storage to supercharge mobile AI by Paul Hill Local AI models tend to run a lot more slowly than cloud services like Claude and Gemini; however, Samsung has just announced that it has developed its UFS 5.0 solution, which increases data transfer to speeds of 10.8GB/s, enabling faster storage and processing in mobile memory that has the potential to provide more optimal local AI experiences. Commenting on this development, Jangseok Choi, head of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, said: If you’ve tried local AI, you’ll know it can be quite slow, especially if using the larger parameter models. By developing this new solution, Samsung says that storage is evolving from just storing data to a core piece of infrastructure that supports AI computation, too. The Korean company said that UFS 5.0 integrates the latest embedded memory interface standard from JEDEC and achieves up to 10.8 gigabytes per second (GB/s) transfer speeds. Regarding write speeds, Samsung UFS 5.0 can reach 9.5 GB/s. Both the read and write speeds are twice as fast as those of the previous UFS 4.1 standard. Aside from being ideal for local AI, Samsung’s UFS 5.0 is more power efficient by 40% compared to UFS 4.1. Samsung achieved this by implementing innovations such as clock gating and multi-voltage technologies. UFS 5.0 is also ultra-compact at just 7.5mm x 13mm x 0.9mm; that is 16.7% smaller than UFS 4.1. The company said it will be bringing it to multiple devices in the future, including mobile, wearable, and extended reality.
    • A bit like the steamdeck, this probably isn't for you.
