No, in some cases it does not. I'm a web developer, so I test extensively on all browsers, and I have experienced anomalies in Opera on occasion when they appear fine in both FB and IE.

However, I still appreciate Opera. I used it for a very long time. Now, however, FB is my primary browser. I didn't understand what all the hype was about it being so fast at first -- I didn't think it was any faster than IE or Opera. But then I applied these tweaks ( link ) and it made ALL the difference. FB flies now when loading pages. It's incredible. All I need is 3 extensions to get everything how I want. And with the right theme, I think FB looks better than Opera too. Clean, streamlined. FB is my choice. :D

I?ve always found Opera to render pages faster than Firebird. On Broadband I don?t see any difference, but on dial-up Opera is the fastest browser ever! I don?t really like the mail-part of Opera, however this can be disabled by deleting the m2.dll in the Opera folder.

I still choose Firebird though, eventhough I find it slower and more bugged than Opera. The reason? I HATE that Opera doesn?t support native Windows skinning. The original Opera skin is just plain ugly, and it?s just too much work making a new skin for every time I change my desktop.

With native skinning support, Opera would be a winner. Until then I?ll stick with Firebird.

Funny how people say that its not a fair poll when I just asked what is your preferred primary browser.

Besides, despite being a somewhat buggy and beta browser, Firebird has some fundamentals that still maintain peoples favor even over a mature but what I find a "bloated feeling" and not so streamlined browser that is Opera. Firebird 1.X is gonna kick the crap outta it.

I switch back and forth between Opera, Firebird and Internet Explorer. Just depending on my mood.

I downlloaded the latest build of firebird and am using it now, but probably going to switch back to opera when I am done typing this.  Why because that pic by XP_2003 is so tasty and I a sick of not being able to see my text curser (the blinking line) it just disappears at random. Don't know why but it does.

In short Firebird is great but just not stable enough.

edit/ I feel sometimes alot of people use Firebird just because its the "thing" and your not cool and 1337 if you don't use it.

i used to NOT use it becasue it was the thing. I tried it once in the .61 days then switched back to ie because i didnt know about themes or extenions or how to get them and i didnt really care about tabbed browsing. But about 2 months ago I decided to seriously try it again and i was much better with computers at this point and forund themees browsers and customized firebird and havent gone back sense.

IMO. Opera is a pretty nice browser but it being paid turns me off and it just doesnt feel as stable and seems like eye candy to me. You have to have it as large images or it looks bad for example. I like eye candy to a bit sense i use the coffee firebird theme but it still keeps it in a small space and makes it look Professional and easy to use.

dont like opera its page rendering seems to be the worst

can't even tell if it supports wc3 standards properly as it seems to be a cross between Mozilla and internet explorer page rendering wise

and a lot of sites i've been onto dont display properly in Opera , but in mozilla they render perfectly

Yes, the Mozilla-based rendering engine in Firebird is much better than that of Opera's. People post that they see more badly rendered pages using Opera than Firebird in the other forums out there.

When Firebird becomes the standard Mozilla-based browser, it will be the biggest competitor to IE bar none. Thats just the plain truth, people.

One thing, maybe someone can answer as i havent been able to find the solution in ANY forums or whatever.

How do i move the Firebird Temp Net Files/Cache to a location of my choice?

Specify where to store the cache

To specify in which folder the cache is stored, add the following code to your user.js file:

// Path to Cache folder:

user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory","C:\\Path To Cache");

Remember to use two backslashes for the path separators if you're using Windows, e.g. C:\\Path\\Path To Cache instead of C:\Path\Path To Cache.

This is the main preferences file for Mozilla Firebird and is located in your profile folder. The file does not exist by default, so you need to create it before you can start adding your preferences.

Windows users: If you know how to create a file, just skip this section. Before you can create the file, you must make sure that you can see the file type extensions in Windows. Start Explorer (just click on the My Computer icon on your desktop) and select File > Tools > Folder Options.... Click the View tab and uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types option. Now, go to your profile folder and select File > New > Text Document. The default name New Text Document.txt should be displayed. Change the name to user.js (click Yes on the file type warning that appears).

This will do until the option is added to Firebird in a post 1.X version.

you can't really compare version numbers, because open source software almost always goes up in version number A LOT slower than closed source. Open source projects like the Apache webserver have been around longer than Microsoft's IIS, but IIS is on 6 and apache is on 2. see how that works?

anyway, it's all about the firebird.

Sorry, no option to do that just yet...Hmmm.

I checked with the Firebird devs and the better way to do this for broadband users is just to set the cache size to 0 so its not used. Clearing the cache on every exit just slows things down, they say, and Firebird is all about streamlining.

Edit. Multizilla does this, but its only for Mozilla right now. The devs say "There is currently no support for MozillaFirebird, yet. That will change soon, however."
