I bought it a couple days before release to get the early access.  I played the crap out of it those couple days.   I didn't really like the combat.. it was like a mix between two styles that didn't feel too fluid.  I also had some really bad preformance issues.  Game would fully lock up, low fps, etc.  I can play wow on medium at 60fps  wildstar on low was like 15fps.

Is it fun? Yea, but overall.. it seems to fall short.. and Im not sure if it was because I was expecting something closer to vanilla wow.. or what but the preformance issues killed it for me.

What kind of specs does the target PC have that you are running it on? On both my desktop and laptop i've had a smooth 60 FPS experience with the game, so i'm just wondering.

I find myself getting lost in exploring the areas in the game, which is good. What isn't good is the feeling of dread I feel quest grinding. It's pretty linear, and is pretty standard as far as MMOs go. I'm still going to keep at it though, I like the animation style and combat of the game. And the 40-man raids have peaked my interest quite a bit. Beyond that, the only thing that is keeping me around is the Aurins.

I feel like i'm just playing this to fill the void WoW has left. I have lost all interest in the game with Pandaria's final months. Thus, I am really looking forward to what WoD may have in store. Hopefully WoD can restore the way I felt about the game in Vanilla/BC/WotLK. Nothing quite matched the feeling i'd get in WotLK PvP, I truly enjoyed the game at that point.

My pc is a little on the older side.

Quad Core Q6700 (2.66ghz)

4gb DDR3

Windows 8.1

8800GT Akimbo Super clocked.

The pc isn't bad I do have a blown cap on the mobo that may be affected performance.  The video card is heavily modified and is still deemed a good card.  But I think my PC might just be getting tired so to speak.  It's not been off for more than a month in the 6 years I've had it.

Not sure how that is funny. Lineage 1/2. Guild Wars 1/2, Aion. Great games with HUGE fanbases. NCSoft is great at what they do. Don't turn your nose up to a company simply because you didn't like the stuff they put out. NCSoft is a highly successful company and they have every bit of confidence in Wildstar.

There is a reason ESO didn't give out free trials. They knew the game would fail. I see Wildstar lasting quite a while.

No.. NCSoft are scum who will shut down your favourite game the instant subscriber numbers stop climbing.  Ask anyone who played:

Exteel

Dungeon Runners

Auto Assault

Tabula Rasa  (This closure was particularly nasty)

Lineage 1  (Still very popular)

City of Heroes (Game was popular and quite profitable, and they still killed it in a reprehensible manner)

NCSoft have little understanding of the western game market.  For them, if it's not mindless grinding, it's not going to live long.  Wildstar WILL go the way of those in the list above unless they divorce themselves from NC and get a different publisher.

Well I'm quite enjoying the game. I'm getting a little tired of the dominion starting areas but that's my own fault for being indecisive in what kind of class I want to play.

The combat is fun. It takes inspiration from GW2 and action games with it's active combat system and dodging.

Of course, the one gripe I have with the game is performance. For no reason that I can tell occasionally the game will just drop down to 2 fps and be completely unplayable for a solid 30-45 seconds and then continue going smooth. It's very strange and I'm not the only one who experiences the issue by far.

Graphics are nice depending on how you feel about the aesthetic, which I don't mind. And I also like that it doesn't take it so seriously. Where ESO/Zenimax made certain design decisions to intentionally inhibit players Wildstar/Carbine did the exact opposite.  After the train wreck of ESO it's very nice change of pace.

And I'm indifferent to NCsoft. I'm aware they have shut down games in the past (why should they keep games running that aren't profitable just because people like them? It sucks but that's life) they haven't shut down any of the games I've played. So yeah...

To be fair, it kinda had to be generic to grow a wider playerbase. Look at all the niche MMOs that have came and went as of late.

I think that is surefire way to f2p, before it fails completely like ESO. Look at Guild Wars 2...very successful game even after almost 2 years since the launch, and very few things are generic in that game. I think not a single WoW copy will dethrone old school MMORPG, something completely new is  needed and GW2 is a pretty solid try.

The thing is of course that generic MMOs get a big early playerbase, then the die or ncsoft kills it. Niche MMOs they hang around with their dedicated niche playerbase.

I have seen a few reviews of the game so far that state the beginning is very standard but the end game is actually rather nice. I am not sure yet if i am going to pick this one up. I played Guild Wars 2 till the end game and ended up getting bored because i do not know anyone else that is playing the game so I have never done a dungeon or anything in the game.

I've been playing on Pergo(pvp), level 50 Esper and I LOVE this game!!!  It's very much like vanilla wow, the boss encounters are actually challenging!  Feel free to add me if you'd like to play :).

Also!  There will be a public free trial soon: http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/free-trial-giveaway/

I decided to get a cheap key last weekend. just because being out of work and being super hot summer I'm super bored and have nothing to do...

I've barely gotten to level 10 in this time. game still does little to make me want to play the game. missions are all over the place(not geographically) with some being extremely hard to impossible. until you grind regular mobs to level up since there wasn't enough quests around to level me up, except for the stupid challenges. in these days when I was playing I can count the amount of other players I've seen on ONE hand. it's dead in there.

and the interface is badly designed in many places. things are badly explained.  "ding you level, now you can tradecraft and have hobbies" .... ok.. what are hobbies. not explained anywhere, even when you click on it, it just makes it go away. Costumes. not explained anywhere. even the wiki when you look it up just says "go to this thing somewhere".

If you're running out of quests then you're doing something wrong. There's no way you should be running out of quests in any given area if you're progressing through the area properly. I've made several characters and each one of them was 15-16 after clearing the first areas of all quests without any sort of grinding.

As for the rest...yeah some things aren't explained very well. Like costumes.

The best way I can describe how to use costumes is that you have to visit the dye/costume npc and open the dye window. Then you can equip any kind of armor as a costume in that window (not your character window, but the dye window..). This is nice because you can use any sort of armor in your costume. If you're a light armor class you can use heavy armor and vice versa.

So all the fears about NCSoft was unsurprisingly justified after all.

Now will it turn F2P or be killed first is the next question. And what happened to all the claims it wasn't an NCSoft game, just published by them...

    • This is sadly what happens when a company tries to become political and focus on agendas outside gaming, the constant push of inclusivity and whatever the current thing was and box ticking, instead of simply focusing on what was a great game to many myself included, massive let down that a once great game company has ended up this way hopefully this will be a lesson to game devs from here on in to leave politics and agendas out of gaming
    • Prices for consumer electronic stink and will continue to stink for quite some time. If you're at all hesitant, just buy now because it's not getting better. (or buy used and save even more cash)
    • Microsoft raises Xbox console prices by up to $150, discontinues 2TB version by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Back in March, Sony increased PlayStation 5 prices, and now, it's Microsoft's turn. Today, the company announced a major price increase that will affect all of its Xbox consoles, and one storage option is being discontinued entirely. There is some time before the new prices go into effect. Starting on August 1, 2026, any Xbox Series X|S model with 512GB of storage will cost $100 more than now. The price of 1TB models will go up by $150 instead. At the same time, all 2TB models are being discontinued. "The entire consumer electronics industry is struggling with the current components crisis, but the effects are particularly hard on consoles," said the company. "Unlike phones, computers, speakers, and other consumer devices, consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make." As the hikes hit, Microsoft is beginning to offer more options to make its consoles more accessible to potential customers, including financing, buy now, pay later schemes, and refurbished options: Buy Now, Pay Later: We’ve made it easier for players to use Buy Now, Pay Later options on eligible XBOX hardware purchases through Microsoft Stores, making it possible to break up your payment into predictable short-term, interest-free installments. Interest-Free Financing: Players purchasing eligible XBOX hardware through Amazon can take advantage of 0% APR financing for up to 12 months, giving players more flexibility with lower monthly payments and more budgeting control. Previously Played Consoles: We are working with retail partners on new programs to provide previously played consoles at lower prices. Players who are ready to upgrade or no longer use their console will be able to trade it in with participating retail partners for cash or store credit. Those consoles will then be made available at lower prices for players. Certified Refurbished Consoles: XBOX Certified Refurbished Consoles are available at Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. Microsoft said that the rising cost of storage and memory prices is behind this decision, with costs going up by over 2.5 times since the last time it raised prices of its consoles. The company says these parts are expected to double in price by the fall of 2027.
