Dr. Zenko Hrynkiw was at Brookwood Medical Center Tuesday morning when he was needed for emergency brain surgery miles away at Trinity Medical Center.

The problem was the sudden snowstorm had locked down traffic, and the neurosurgeon didn?t get farther than a few blocks by vehicle.

?The cell service was bad so we were fading in and out,? said Steve Davis, charge nurse in the neuro intensive care unit at Trinity. ?At one point, I heard him say, ?I?m walking.??

Davis had alerted authorities, and they were looking for him. There were supposed sightings, but no one could find him.

?The police were looking for him,? Davis said.

Hours had gone by since the initial contact in the morning.

?He finally called me and said, ?Where?s the patient? What?s the status??? Davis said. ?He spoke to the family and went off to surgery.?

It was an emergency surgery for a traumatic brain injury. Hrynkiw is Trinity?s only brain surgeon, Davis said.

?Without the surgery, the patient would have most likely died,? Davis said. ?But he is doing well.?

?This just speaks volumes to the dedication of the man,? Davis said. ?When I saw him, all I could say is ?you are a good man.? ?

Walking in snow, let's be generous and say 1mph?  He walked 6 miles!  What kind of medical emergency waits quarter of a day?

Still, hats off the doc!

But can you drive or fly an helicopter with a snow storm or several inches of snow already on ground?

Honest question, because i think this was the reason.

That's not how I walk. 5mph is more like it.

Average walking speed is 3mph, you honestly believe you maintain 5mph through deep snow?

Yes, but seeing as they have 1 brain surgeon - I doubt if they have a helicoptor

Maybe a couple of ski's? That would be way cool for a brain surgeon!

What? Average walking speed is 4mph. So if you even half that, you're at 3 hours tops.

Obviously speed is another factor that distinguisges walking from running. Although walking speeds can vary greatly depending on a multitude of factors such as height, weight, age, terrain, surface, load, culture, effort, and fitness, the average human walking speed is about 5.0 kilometres per hour (km/h), or about 3.1 miles per hour (mph)

With this story, and the feat - it amuses me that some people have little better to do that question my numbers.

    • Zen Browser 1.21.4b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about.
