Sony's much anticipated firmware update which will be bringing in Pulse headset support has been pushed back to a February 22nd release date according to sources. (Unconfirmed by Sony)

The update is a jump from 1.52 to 1.6, but all we know so far is it will support pulse headset and other headsets.

Possible features included in update:

DLNA Support

CD/MP3-CD Support

External HDD Support.

Customizable UI Themes

3D Blu-ray Support

YouTube Streaming support

Improved/More Voice commands.

Additional Options and minor fixes.

Sony is releasing a new headset which will be in stores this month and requires the 1.6 update, so it must be released this month but exact date is not confirmed.

Possible features list is misleading, from source

There are no other details as to what else the 1.6 update could bring, but we expect it will mostly be bugs fixes and internal software tweaks to keep the PS4 problem free.

All I want for now is Pulse Headset support and for audio to be fixed, whether it's Sony's or Netflix's doing, I have no 5.1 audio (no center channel) in Netflix. Sony do need to bring back the PS3 like audio options for the PS4 regardless.

Looked it up seems to be a PS4 issue with all/most video streaming apps, I've only used music apps and watched blu-ray movies so haven't experienced it. But hopefully that's one of the fixes in the new firmware update.

Possible features is just a list from multiple sites which are the most requested and most talked about.

I think it's to do with the stupid "preferred audio output" setting. You can actually change that to optical and it still works over HDMI :/ They need to bring back the PS3 option of allowing you to select various outputs and deselect others rather than trying to manage it all automatically. The PS3 did have an automatic option, but giving manual options is completely necessary for wide spread audio system compatibility.

If that possible feature list is even half fulfilled, that will be a lot of stuff that I would be happy with.  Hopefully the headset support is handled first though since they did make a point to say that would be coming soon.  I'm not using a pulse headset, but apparently there are many that do.

I have also run into the app surround sound issue, so it would be great to see that fixed, not to mention improving the stability of apps in general since I still get crashes to the dashboard every so often.

Out of that list, the one that sticks out to me is the external drive support.  Are there strong rumors to suggest that Sony is going to add that?  I hadn't seen anything regarding that.  That would be cool. Also, I had no idea you couldn't play 3D Blurays yet, I thought there was discussion about that and Sony had said it did at launch.  Doesn't bother me though, I don't have any to play.

Well considering its going to be late February and the version number is jumping like it is, they must be trying to pack a lot in. Looking forward to it.

Going by the big jump in version number, it would have to include more than just support for a headset.

Since when has a minor point increment (0.08 in this case) been considered a "big jump"?

Big/Major increments are generally made by incrementing the digit(s) before the dot/period. the digits after the dot are considered a minor update.

Tonight, system update 1.60 will be hitting the PS4, bringing with it support for several wireless headsets, including the PULSE, the PULSE Elite, and Sony's newly announced Gold Wireless Headset, which you can check out via the above trailer.

Don't use a headset nor voice commands, though in playing Tomb Raider they seem to really be pushing for it.   It's kind of nice actually with the lack of support for most headsets, I can play BF4 and such without a bunch of people yelling over mic as they don't want to use the Sony provided ones.

However, if the other features in the list (primarily external HDD Support) got added.. that would be fricken awesome.

New wireless stereo headset for PlayStation 4 revealed, PS4 system update 1.60 detailed

The next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.60) will be released tomorrow (4th February 2014), bringing compatibility support to PS4 for the PULSE Wireless Stereo Headset (including the GTA V limited edition version) and the original Wireless Stereo Headset.

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/02/03/new-wireless-stereo-playstation-4-headset-revealed-ps4-system-update-1-60-detailed/

Just went live heres the release notes:

'Picture qaulity during DVD playback has been improved'

'support for wireless stereo headsets'

and thats it. Disappointing :(

Yep.. two features I don't use.  Don't own a headset.. and after checking the retail on them.. won't own.  Also don't watch DVD's anymore.. all digital.

The update for the 22nd was released about 2 hours ago. (1.6)
There is no big features included, and I can't see there being another 'big' update this month.
All in all - a pretty useless Firmware update really.

    • RSS Guard 5.2.0 by Razvan Serea RSS Guard is a simple (yet powerful) feed reader. It is able to fetch the most known feed formats, including RSS/RDF and ATOM. It's free, it's open-source. RSS Guard is developed on top of the Qt library and it supports these operating systems: Windows GNU/Linux OS/2 (eComStation) Mac OS X xBSD (possibly) Android (possibly) other platforms supported by Qt The core features of RSS Guard are: support for online feed synchronization via plugins, Tiny Tiny RSS (from RSS Guard 3.0.0). multiplatform, support for all feed formats, simplicity, import/export of feeds to/from OPML 2.0, downloader with own tab and support for up to 6 parallel downloads, message filter with regular expressions, feed metadata fetching including icons, simple Adblock functionality, customized popup notifications, Google-based auto-completion for internal web browser location bar, ability to cleanup internal message database with various options, enhanced feed auto-updating with separate time intervals, multiple data backend support, SQLite (in-memory DBs too), MySQL. is able to specify target database by its name (MySQL backend), “portable” mode support with clever auto-detection, feed categorization, drap-n-drop for feed list, automatic checking for updates, ability to discover existing feeds on websites, full support of podcasts (both RSS & ATOM), ability to backup/restore database or settings, fully-featured recycle bin, printing of messages and any web pages, can be fully controlled via keyboard, feed authentication (Digest-MD5, BASIC, NTLM-2), handles tons of messages & feeds, sweet look & feel, fully adjustable toolbars (changeable buttons and style), ability to check for updates on all platforms + self-updating on Windows, hideable main menu, toolbars and list headers, KFeanza-based default icon theme + ability to create your own icon themes, fully skinnable user interface + ability to create your own skins, “newspaper” view, plenty of skins, support for "feed://" URI scheme, ability to hide list of feeds/categories, open-source development model based on GNU GPL license, version 3, tabbed interface, integrated web browser with adjustable behavior + external browser support, internal web browser mouse gestures support, desktop integration via tray icon, localizations to some languages, Qt library is the only dependency, open-source development model and friendly author waiting for your feedback, no ads, no hidden costs. RSS Guard 5.2.0 changelog: Added: Feed auto-fetch can now also be delayed while Feral GameMode is active on Linux and startup auto-fetch is skipped when GameMode is already active. (#2265) WebEngine builds can now use RSS Guard generated proxy auto-config (PAC) rules so article/web browsing follows per-account and per-feed proxy settings more closely. (#2273) Generated PAC rules now also cover related subdomains and use Public Suffix List data, so feeds such as feeds.bbc.co.uk can also proxy resources from images.bbc.co.uk. (#2273) Standard feeds can now define extra proxy domains, useful when article images, stylesheets or other page resources are loaded from a CDN or another domain that should use the same feed proxy. (#2273) RSS Guard now asks for proxy credentials when a WebEngine page needs proxy authentication and can fill credentials from the current feed proxy when available. (#2273) Network settings again include an option to ignore all cookies, which clears stored cookies and prevents new cookies from being accepted. Standard RSS/ATOM feeds can now individually ignore cookies while downloading feed data. Stored cookies can now be deleted from the Tools menu. Custom skin colors can now override the feed list article count color separately from feed titles, including a separate highlighted color. (#2275) Settings dialog can now search across available settings and highlight matching controls. (#1754) Standard RSS/ATOM feeds can now optionally be reported as broken when they are valid but contain no articles. (#2039) Standard RSS/ATOM feeds can now override the application-wide feed connection timeout per feed. (#1023) Tray icon can now use a custom background color and unread-count text color, with an option to reuse the generated icon as the application icon. (#1973) Support for more benevolent parsing of Gemlog entries (#2295). Article list can now show when an article was received by RSS Guard. (#947) Feed deep discovery now actually scrapes all links found in the website and checks if they are feeds or not. This greatly enhances usability of the deep discovery mode and discovers many more feeds than before. (#2306) Search boxes now show a small dot when the feed or article list is hiding some items because of active filtering. (#873) Articles now have a shortcut-assignable action to open the homepage of the feed they belong to. (#2060) Fixed: Parallel feed updates no longer crash when multiple update results are processed at the same time. (64cf521) Links in WebEngine articles opened from feeds such as Kill the Newsletter now open correctly instead of being swallowed by the embedded page. (#2272) Relative article URLs resolution was kinda broken. (#2282) Clicking article URL did not work when the URL had "fragment" set. (#2293) The default proxy setting now uses Qt/system default proxy behavior instead of forcing no proxy. (e0263ad) WebEngine article loading now keeps the current feed context, so feed-specific proxy credentials remain available while the article page loads.
