Everyone knows that Americans love pizza. But apparently the government just had to confirm it.

A new study released by the USDA analyzes the consumption habits of U.S. children and adults between 2007 and 2010. The study shows what is pretty much what is universally known: that Americans love pizza-- and eat it often.

On any given day 13 percent of adults eat pizza, according to the study. Other findings include:

--A higher percentage of males (15%) than females (11%) consumed pizza on any given
day.

--Children (2-19 years) are almost twice as likely to consume pizza than adults (20 years and over).

--From a dietary standpoint, pizza provided about one-third of the day?s total intake for calcium and almost 40 percent of daily sodium intake among Adult consumers.

--For adults, the majority of pizza was consumed at dinner, while children ate pizza at almost equal percentages for lunch and dinner.

The study also says that pizza has important nutrients, including calcium, fiber, potassium and lycopene, a carotenoid found in tomatoes and other vegetables --and provides about one-third of the day?s total intake for calcium and more than one-half of the day?s total intake for lycopene.

Shocking, I would have never guessed that people like Pizza. Definitely money well spent

You can't make informed decisions without having the relevant information. Given the obesity epidemic facing the US it is perfectly reasonable to examine the dietary habits of the nation, especially for a food as popular as pizza. That said, the limited scope of the report does mean that its value is questionable.

How dare you make a nuanced comment going beyond the ironic connotation of the headline! You wouldn't happen to have, I don't know, read the article?

My Favorite pizza is not very standard at all :p

Dual Crust Bacon Lettuce Tomato Pizza :D

*other than that, a standard Pepperoni and Mushroom with Extra Garlic is the norm.

Whole grain crust. Heavy on the mushrooms, green & blazing hot peppers, diced garlic, red onions, black olives, cubed chicken or turkey, home made tomato sauce (VERY rich & spiced), and just a bit of finely shredded mozzarella and a dash of parmesan.

Extra points if done in covered charcoal grill with mesquite chips.

Huh? 13% of adults on any given day eating pizza means 13% of adults on any given day eat pizza, not that everyone loves it.

I like pizza well enough, but prefer other foods generally, because pizza tends to be pretty greasy. I tend to like focaccias with toppings better, because they're less greasy. Pizza is a nice comfort food, but generally I only eat it at parties where people order it. Otherwise, I'd never eat it.

    • Shocker! It would be crazy to be ready to introduce a "fold" phone but have no plans happening for a followup model.
    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
