Times have changed... If the original Terminator came out today, it would probably be a PG-13 too, uncut.

It's not that the times have changed, it's that the people running the studio have. Mad Mad: Fury Road is a 15 (it's R-rated in the US) and has a very mature tone, whereas Paramount decided to make Terminator: Genisys appeal to children. Deadpool is being made as an R-rated film, so it's not as if there is no appetite for R-rated films these days. If the success of Game Of Thrones and Breaking Bad has taught us anything it's that audiences are clamouring for adult entertainment.

Based on the reviews it seems that the movie wasn't particularly well handled. Ever since they started appealing to children with Terminator 3 the franchise has been terrible.

I wonder if someone at Metacritic was trying to point something out to us.

Garbage, my ranking is in order.

Terminator 2

Terminator

Terminator Salvation (was awesome and not a lot of people saw it)

Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines

Genisys, didn't see it yet.

100% agree with this order.

I thought genisys was quite good and entertaining. Are there stupid parts? Of course! I liked the throw backs to the earlier movies

Not sure why people hate it so much

Sadly, I think a lot of people think it's cool to hate on something that is actually good.

Looking forward to seeing this. I thought the last two films were good. T3 would've been better had they picked another person to play JC.

I thought it was pretty bad, and Emilia Clarke just doesn't fit the role very well.

After TSCC I expect these stories to be a lot better, but I guess TSCC will continue to be the best thing to come from Terminator since T2.

It was a good series, but I got real tired of JC's belly aching about his life and mother.

Just saw it. And I feel like it's a good movie if you don't actually think about the things that are going on because then you'd realize it doesn't make a lot of sense. if you check your brain at the door then it is a good action flick.

And I feel like the after credit scene shouldn't have been an after credit scene because by the time that part was on most every one had already left. I feel like it's an important part of the story that makes a lot of things fit. Also the only reason I knew about it was because of this thread.

Whenever there's a action flick about time travel you'll have to check your brain at the door, no surprise there.

I think the issue people have is the fact that Hollywood is in rehash/reboot/redo mode, with anything from the 80s/90s that was a hit instead of trying to come up with new movies.   I don't much mind if the new stuff turns out fine, but I can also understand the other side as well, maybe we should look to move on from the constant sequels and reboots now?

The latest trailer makes me think that this might actually be worth seeing, and not on the small screen...

But please make it the last.

The Terminator rights revert to James Cameron in 2019, and he likes this one,

I start to see things I recognize. It

I loved it from start to finish. When James Cameron (director of the 1st and 2nd Terminator movies) says this is his official 3rd movie, you know it is going to be good if he gives it his blessing.
My order is from fav to crap

1. Terminator 2
2. Terminator
3. Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles
4. Terminator Genisys
5. Terminator Salvation
6. Terminator 3

PG-13... So what?  I don't feel it lacked a damned thing from not being an 18 or whatever rating you guys use.

And as far as Terminator films go:

The Terminator

Great 80's sci-fi horror

T2: Judgement Day

Marvellous sequel that has aged very well indeed

T3: Rise Of The Robots

Absolute shambles of a film, and only the last 2 minutes begin to get interesting

Terminator: Salvation

I personally really liked this film, but I do not feel it it part of the main story arc, rather a spin-off

The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Enjoyable, but poorly constructed - however the 2nd half of the 2nd season became very interesting

Terminator: Genisys

Ignoring the hokey "social network" aspect, this to me felt like a worthy sequel to T2

To put it another way, I would box-set up T1, T2 and Genisys and be happy with it.

Forgetting the latest film, as I haven't seen it yet, I totally agree with this post.

The way you summed it up makes me want to go and see the new one.

+1 the throwbacks were awesomesauce if you askme.

I liked the movie, liked the awesome new terminator as well... I'm not quite sure I like emilia clarke as sarah connor, I think besting linda hamilton is hard...

I have not seen new movie yet. I have T2 Special Edition... this one is very good. They have some behind the scenes films in extras ... they were impressive on how they did with T2... I saw the preview of the new movie... I noticed that they did some cool effects in the film.

How many times do they have to go back to the same god damn point in time?

Completely skipping this one. Would very much prefer to see a sequel to Salvation.

I liked Salvation, but it should have been its own film, a spin off of the Terminator series rather than a direct reference. It should have been based on a group of humans completely detached from John Conner, just trying to survive.

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
