More in many cases. There are many types, some very specialized and not "just" what you perceive as a TA.

It's not demeaning to call someone what they are, a bleedin' assistant! There's no shame in that at all. I just believe in calling jobs what they are, not making up fanciful titles to make them sound better than they are.

 

I'm a computer programmer. Some call themselves software architects, some software engineers, some technology interface specialists; but at the end of the day, they are what they are... A simple computer programmer.

It's no that simplistic. They differ from teachers aides/assistants.

Teachers have a degree, often a Masters, and a teaching license.

Paraprofessionals have varying levels of training including vocational, an Associates or a Bacheloes depending on where they work. They too have to meet state criteria, and mobility is limited within specialties. Ex: special ed paras are a distinct group.

Teachers aides are pretty much untrained and uncertified.

My goodness, so instead of just being a computer programmer you're a "simple" computer programmer.  Sounds all highfalutin to me, but hey, to each their own, right?                                                                                                   /s
