what exactly is the reason to film on 35 mm film? it will have to be converted to digital anyways as virtually ALL theaters are digital now... might as well skip a step and just film it in digital... you can get the same quality and gran, all the same lenses, etc...

I think it's because they want to use the classic FX style used in the movies in the past and not have it all be computer CGI.  That means filming models in motion on 35mm film and then running them through computers and blue screens and so on.   I remember someone posted that they wanted to do it that way and not have it be 100% CGI.   Just a guess on my part as to why use 35mm and not digital.

weren't the last few episodes filmed in digital? I don't remember why I was thinking that... I know they used EXTENSIVE CGI in episode 1/2/3....

Edit: episode 1 was the last to be filmed at 35mm, 2 and 3 were digital

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII TO OPEN DECEMBER 18, 2015

With pre-production in full-swing, a confirmed release date of December 18, 2015, has been set for Lucasfilm's highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.

"We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek) and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII.

Shooting is scheduled to begin spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios.

Samuel L' Jackson appeared on David Letterman's Late Show, and the host quizzed him about the new Star Wars movies. Jackson, who played Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, reveals that he spoke to Mark Hamill about it and the former Luke Skywalker said that J.J. Abrams has not been in contact with him about reprising the role. Here's the vid.

I don't see how you can do a good sequel without Luke in some fashion.  Even if he's this new trilogies version of Yoda for example.  As far as I know at the end of 6 he's the only Jedi out there.

It would be nice if Luke would be in the film with a mentoring role.

I haven't read the comic books about Luke's son and daughter but I've read some stuff about it and it seemed really interesting. I'm kinda hoping they're going to do something similar with these upcoming films.

Abrahams is the director that Lucas never was. That's not saying much but it's true.

The original trilogy is such a classic because it was well written and because it launched the epic trilogy subgenre. But the direction was just average. It succeeded because there was nothing like it at the time and is still succeeding for the very same reason we think everything past is better: Nostalgia and cultural validation.

That's the same reason the new trilogy was so disappointing for many: Because now we have a better reference of how to do great epic movies, so they pale in comparison, because the directing is just mediocre. The characters are still well written (Except of course mr Binks). In the end the entire sextology is a great story about ONE SINGLE CHARACTER: Anakim.

What's wrong with Lucas giving his input on the story though?  Maybe he's not that great as a director but he can write scripts just fine.  If you didn't like the prequel trilogy that's one thing but the original was/is great and the Indiana Jones trilogy is also great.  I don't quite get all the hate at this point.

the biggest problem with the prequels is that george already ran out people who would challenge him creatively. I like him being a single voice in what will probably be a crowd of creative people working and focusing a script

STAR WARS EPISODE VII's Millennium Falcon Has Reportedly Been Built Already

"A full-scale 1:1 Millennium Falcon has been built as well as the interiors of the ship for filming," they explained. "The Falcon is done - inside and out. The sets were built off-site, ready to move when Lucasfilm/Bad Robot were ready to move into Pinewood."

It is possible, but until Disney or Lucasfilm confirm the return of the Falcon, nothing is official. However, considering Harrison Ford is expected to return as Han Solo, it is more than likely that his space ship and arguably one of the most iconic space ships in movie history will make an appearance. And also, that recently released picture of R2-D2 also reveals that props are being worked on, and some even being finished, so it is quite possible this is true. Well, let's just lay back down and wait for more news regarding the sequel to one of the most popular movie trilogies of all time, Star Wars.

Emmanuelle Chriqui, Alexis Dziena & Taissa Farmiga Up For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Roles?

I'm really looking forward to the day when the official cast is announced for J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Episode VII. There seems to be an endless supply of casting rumors, and today is no exception. Jedi News is reporting that they know three more actresses in the mix for roles. So, you can add: Emmanuelle Chriqui a.k.a Sloan from HBO's Entourage, Alexis Dziena a.k.a. Gemma Honeycutt from Fool's Gold, and Taissa Farmiga a.k.a. Vera Farmiga's ("Source Code") younger sister.

"Just this past two weeks I have heard the names of Emmanuelle Chriqui, Alexis Dziena, and Taissa Farmiga all linked with roles ? all exceptionally talented actresses. Whether any of them are cast is still unknown." - Jedi News

    • "No. The "New Outlook for Windows" does not support non-cloud mailboxes (such as on-premises Exchange servers). Furthermore, because the New Outlook effectively functions as a web-based client, it requires all connected accounts—even standard IMAP or POP accounts—to route and cache data through Microsoft's cloud servers. You can verify the accepted account setups using the Microsoft Supported Account Types Guide." Built to fail "New" Outlook is basically just webmail in a window wrapper and it's usefulness reflects that.
