Thanks again. I really have not used any items. In fact I just discovered yesterday that the Coldblood Dew gives you Blood Echoes if you use one. So I will check some Fire Paper out.

The guide mentioned the FlameThrower but I must have missed it somehow I think.

Is it possible to beat the game without using anything? I am just curious more than anything else, I will use whatever I need to to make my life easier.

Yeah of course, it just makes some bosses a little easier. The oil and molotovs help as well. Oil makes the enemy even weaker to fire.

The Flamethrower can be gotten from an NPC near the start of the game ;) He is near a lamp. Gives you it after Gascoigne is dead.

Any tips for the Blood Starved Beast?

Yes, I am only just at that part. I took a very extended break from Bloodborne.

I've read that some people managed to lure it with pungent blood cocktails. Allegedly the beast will head to where you throw it and you could manage to land a couple of hits from behind.

It didn't work for me though  :/

Is it the dude in the window by the lamp, or really towards the start of the game in that little courtyard?

I will give that a shot!! Thanks.

Larry, I give hints, not holding your hand ;)

But yes :p The guy behind the barred window.

You gave a hint and I guess (correctly I might add) based on that hint. What else was I supposed to do??

You know what is funny is I went back to that area to do some echoes farming and I actually went to the window and then said screw it, I have heard everything this guy has to say, and decided not to talk to him. Clearly I should have talked to him.

And just a quick comment about going back to that area. I do have to say that this game is easily, EASILY, the best game I have ever played as far as truly making the player feel they have gotten stronger and better at the game. I think back to how much difficulty I had with that first area by the bonfire, especially since I was new to the Souls games overall, and now when I go back and just wreck shop and barely even have to think about it, it really is an incredibly satisfying experience that not many other games that I can recall captures.

I am trying to talk a co-worker into playing the game, he is a gamer but somewhere between casual and hardcore, and I even told them they can borrow my copy once I am done, and my biggest selling point to him was "The game makes you feel like you have accomplished something just by unlocking a damn door."

Yeah that's what Souls games do best, fill you with a sense of genuine progression with both your skill level, and character power.

Funny thing is the games themselves are quite pickup and play. UI isn't cluttered and there aren't massive chunks of the game that play differently (introduction of hard puzzles or new gameplay mechanics). The real difficulty comes from having to become better through trial and error, no matter if you're a hardcore gamer or not.

Although each of the games do have some obtuse mechanics, items and are quite stat crunch heavy in regards to having to create a correct character build/weapon combo. All these little things do make parts of the game a bit user unfriendly.

I am both happy and sad for you, Larry. I'm happy that you finally experienced what it is that us 'Souls' fans love about the series and Miyazaki's design philosophy. I'm sad because now every other game you play will have to live up to that impossible standard. Not many do.

Yeah I constantly get an itch to start from level 1 again in Souls games and not speed-run them per se, but see how my own talent has improved and how quickly and successfully I can navigate back through the game. Once you start to get really good at one of the Souls games it's satisfying to steam roll the bosses early on that gave you a lot of trouble and even more satisfying when you still die to making mistakes even after 300+ hours of play :p That's when it really clicks that outside of a few cheap sections, the Souls games are all about learning, practice, skill and patience. Not really about "OMG HARD GAME IS HARD". When you get better you can literally make it 1/3rd+ through one of them without dying once. I've never done any of them start to finish without dying, but I have done massive chunks.

Yeah same here. I've 100% Dark Souls on every platform, and each time after the first was fun to see how far I could get before my first death. Then you always have the random "whoops, ran off a ledge" types of deaths that are just plain hilarious.

I have tried SL1 fun runs before, but I didn't enjoy them too much. I didn't have too much trouble, but I just couldn't stand the speed of combat. Each boss is a slog because you so little damage. I get why people like the challenge of it, but it's not for me.

It's usually "**** DIDN'T MEAN TO ROLL!". Or for me, this jump will be easy, accidentally jump at a 45 degree angle instead of straight... Or forget to jump at all and just run off a ledge. Or I'll block this incoming attack... poise damage knocks me backwards and off the ledge...

Yeah, SL1 runs aren't my thing. All I've done in DS2 is to see how high a SL I can get under 1 million souls. I've rushed to get the ring that caps your soul level by eating souls as well, capping at just over 30k souls but still being quite strong. Little challenges here or there, but never as gimped as SL1, or using a ladle as my weapon. I just don't find doing those very fun.

Haha, yeah. So many good memories...

Larry just wanted you to hop on SharePlay and finish the game

Sorry have not been in this thread in awhile, but what are you talking about? Did you send me some kind of invitation? I leave my PS4 running for a whole day sometimes and as I was playing Bloodborne just leave it running while I am in the Hunters Dream, so I truly never saw any invite. I also think I may have turned off notifications popping up in game. Not 100% sure on that.

Yeah it really is something special. I really cannot think of any other game over the past 3 to 5 years that has been able to achieve this. I think the game that has come closest is actually Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, but it is such a drastically different game and really with it, you get that sense just from repetition. With BB it is just as much about progression.

I really need to get back to playing this game soon. I keep getting sidetracked, and I also am partially hesitant to keep playing as I know I have a world of hurt ahead of me LOL

Ahhhhhh, now I see it all.

Yeah, if people want to tag team the BSB I will take them up on the offer!!

Actually I do want to see if I can beat it on my own. I am 90% on the main story in Arkham Knight, once I beat it I am back to BloodBorne, although Journey may sidetrack me as well. Definitely playing it again remastered.

So I beat the BSB.

Ding Dong, The Best Is Dead, The Beast Is Dead, The Beast Is Dead.

Ding Dong, The Blood Starved Beast is Dead!

the above should be sung like the tune from the Wizard of Oz about the Witch.

I failed to do it on my own, just kept dying from slow poison once I got it to under 25% health. I just was not getting to my Antidote in time (I am assuming that is what one has to do, right?)

So I summoned the AI based assistance, and it only took 2 attempts. Really did make it so much damn easier.

So my question is what the hell do I do now??? I still have that one hunter on the top of the building shooting at me. Still have another hunter in that same area just down below in an arena like area. Or should I skip that area and go the Healing Church Workshop via Odeon Chapel?

I am assuming it is the latter but just want to make sure.

TIA,

DL

Skip those guys for now as they are bloody hard (well the guy on the tower is). There is a way to make him friendly though (involves killing an optional boss), and he gives you something. You can head back to the chapel and a new door will now be open. The guy on the ground protects a shortcut you can drop down to which holds some good armour. You go up the steps towards him and at the far back on the left there is a gap on the railings you can drop down to another area.

Up next boss wise you can go for the hemlock witches, or the grand chapel (I forget the boss name). Killing the hemlock witches allows you to insert runes, they are useful.

edit: Someone has written a 90 page thesis on the story... lol https://docs.google.com/document/d/1k7ST7Ysc9I3s6zLXr-DOzWjoAtu6afOOCaU3ucCdBDk/preview?pli=1&sle=true It just shows the genius behind Miyazaki I guess.

Thanks AB.

So where I am slightly confused is which Lamp do I go to next?

The Cathedral Ward one (there is a new door open there on the right) or The Tomb Of Odeon? That is where I am somewhat confused.

And this right here is definitely the biggest downfall of taking breaks in a game like this, I forgot where I have been.

The Tomb Of Odeon is where you fight Gascoigne IIRC. The only reason to go back there is to carry on Eileen the crows questline. The new door in the Cathedral ward allows you to navigate down the pit and circumvent having to pay 10,000 echoes for the key that unlocks a door towards the chapel. Going down the pit also allows you to get to the abandoned workshop which is a secret area with some good items.

Once again I am back to playing Bloodborne, and I just have one question right now...
It looks like even if one lights some lamps, they are not available to go back to?
In particular I am talking about the lamps in the Abandoned Old Workshop lamp and Yahar' Gul.
I know I visited Yahar' Gul because I got killed by a kidnapper first, so I get while that lamp is possibly not available to go back too, but I would think the Abandoned Old Workshop lamp should be available but right now it is not? I even went back to it just to triple check I did not somehow light the lamp, and I did.
My Insight is Level 20, does that have something to do with it?

I've been playing coop with 2 friends, playing as guest in their playthroughs with my NG+ character, and while the game gets a lot easier it's also a lot of fun.

The chalice dungeons are annoying though, we haven't figured out a way to play through a whole dungeon in coop... other than maybe going through each section three times, but that'd be incredibly tiresome.

It'd be cool if you could choose to not unsummon friends on dungeons after completing a level boss.

    • The fact that the pref is not enabled by default tells you that what you see is what you get...for now. Hopefully the final version will have all the quirks ironed out.
    • It's enterprise, not consumer. And "...affected scenarios involve third-party software..." Would be good to know that in headline, not way down in the article. Instead, you lead with Windows update, which is not very helpful and misleading, IMHO. Just saying.
