Dropping the sidebar was a huge mistake on MS's part (IMO)

I like them. I was a bit scared they were going to go too similar to iOS

They basically took the concept of the failed Longhorn sidebar, and integrated it soo much better. Your right though, MS shouldn't have dropped it

Longhorn's sidebar didn't fail, Microsoft killed it before it came to market because it was too ambitious.

At the time I thought it was a no brainer to have the sidebar (widescreens were starting to be popular), then they dropped it, i was shocked

My wife loves Dashboard and I can't stand it. Maybe the calculator in the notification center might help her adjust lol

I don't know what Tim Cook is talking about. I switched from iPhone to Android to seek more. I love iOS and I love Android (now), I don't think I'll ever own an iPhone again. I love my iPad Mini and iMac though.
