iSub + Pro Speakers

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I can buy an iSub at a good price. But I was wondering if, being an owner of an iMac with the Pro Speakers I will benefit from the purchase, i.e. whether the iSub + Pro Speakers tandem is a wise choice from the audiophiliac point of view.

I would imagine the Pro Speakers on their own have a bit of bass to them, seeing as they're built to work without a subwoofer. Adding the iSub wouldn't be a bad idea. You could always turn the bass level down if it's too heavy, right?

Go for it. I need bass to listen to music, so why wouldn't you try?

Bass is nice, but only when the music you're listening to has bass in it. Some people have their subs so beefed up and loud that the midrange starts to contribute to false bass, and it just sounds cheap.

I've already got the Pro Speakers and I just love their sound (and their bass). Thus I'm not sure if adding an iSub would actually increase the sound quality. But then, getting an iSub for the equivalent of 60 USD is pretty tempting.

a sub would definitely help. the larger the driver, the more low-end frequencies it can generate generally.

i would imagine your pro speakers can probably only go down to around 85 hz while the sub might be able to go down to around 60 hz or so, maybe lower.

you can always lower the bass in preferences if there is too much.
