macoman
A Brazilian woman got quite the surprise when she went on a radio show this week to reconnect with her long-lost mother, Gawker reports. Adriana, 39, who gave no last name, went on Radio Globo's The Time Is Now (which helps people find lost family members) and talked to her mother for the first time. The big news: Adriana had a brother who'd been given up as a child and raised by a relative, just like Adriana was. Bigger news: His name was Leandro, just like Adriana's husband. The two men, in fact, had the same last name. "I don?t believe that you?re telling me this," said a sobbing Adriana, the Daily Mail reports. "Leandro is my husband." The couple has a 6-year-old daughter.Adriana was given up at the age of one and raised by her father, according to the show. Her husband Leandro, 37, learned at age 8 that he'd also been abandoned at a young age, then raised by his step-mother. By the time Adriana and Leandro met, each had spent years seeking their birth mother?without knowing it was the same person. "Now I'm scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn't want me anymore," she said. "I love him so much." But she later said that the pair, who were never legally married, will stay together "whatever anyone might think." Their romantic connection isn't that unusual, according to experts who estimate that up to 50% of such reunions include at least short-term attraction and sometimes sexual obsession.Source: http://www.newser.com/story/192143/woman-learns-she-married-her-brother.html

robertwnielsen
If this had happened in America, I'd be thinking: On the next Maury... (Or Jerry Springer, or Steve Wilkos). :punk: xrobwx71, Roger H. and timster 3 Share

robertwnielsen
meanwhile .... in Brazil I get it. But you have to admit, in the States, a story like this would (and has) ended up on each of the three shows. (Maury, Jerry Springer, and Steve Wilkos). Just sayin'. :) xrobwx71 1 Share

spacer
That has to be an awful feeling. Not only to find out the truth, but that the lingering thought will always be there now.
perochan
is the daughter normal? If yes, all good. Why I ask is because having kids in the same bloodline might make the offspring having problems mentally.

But there is a high possibility that she may have something.

PGHammer
I get it. But you have to admit, in the States, a story like this would (and has) ended up on each of the three shows. (Maury, Jerry Springer, and Steve Wilkos). Just sayin'. :) In the case of the latter two, rather UNsurprising (remember, Steve Wilkos was the head of security for Springer's show and basically interned under Springer). In the case of Maury, he actually started in doing local news and interviews here in Washington, DC (at then-Metromedia-owned WTTG 5); among those he would influence was Oprah Winfrey. (No, I am NOT kidding - Oprah admitted this herself.) Maury's show is more like that of Montel Williams - and on purpose. Such genetic aberrations are more common among children of close relatives - however, even that is not a certainty, as they can, and have, occurred with far distant relationship (by blood) betweeen the parents. And what if their children are actually healthy (free of genetic defects) - despite the relationship genetically between the parents? Brazil (despite being one of the few non-Spanish colonies in South America) was, like most of South America, heavily influenced by the Roman Catholic Church - brother marrying sister was a no-no. How would that square?

How would that square? these couple could apply for asylum at Australia, as long their children are not having any (observable) genetics defects, because if their children indeed having any genetics defects, the very laws that suppose to protect them would brand them as criminals instead. As for mental problems can't say I've noticed any from them.. Phouchg, The Evil Overlord and +E.Worm Jimmy 3 Share

Original Poster
IIRC, such genetic problems are more likely to occur after more than 1 generation of in-breeding. its just as possible for 1 generation to be messed up, if both parents have a saggy left bum cheek the child will also have a saggy left bum cheek its just a copy of DNA with no alternative available the defective gene will have to be used. though same also goes for the benefits :P the human race pretty much started off inbreeding
