Say no to social communistic healthcare!

Social healthcare is not communism, it's everybody pulling together to help each other and keep the costs low.

Socialism is not communism.

Communism isn't necessarily a bad thing anyway.

I do wish folks would learn what the word actually means instead of immediately panicking about the evil "red menace"...

serves him right for wasting their time. Last time I checked, hospitals were for emergencies.

a cut on a finger is hardly an emergency, just get a band-aid at CVS or Walgreens. much much cheaper.

Whilst a cut on the finger may not be an emergency per se, he did need a tetanus and that in itself is an emergency.

Yeah i broke one of my teeth when playing hockey last winter (broken in half) and it did cost me not much more to get the missing part replaced (was 1400 i think). The whole process took 4 rendez-vous. One to sculpt the remaining part of the tooth and to make a mould of my teeth (around 1 hour). A second one to glue the tooth pillar in place and to take another mould of my teeth with the pillar (around 30 minutes). A 3rd rendez-vous at the teeth maker bureau to paint it the right color (15 minutes). Finally a last one to glue to fake half of the tooth in place and to polish everything and be sure it's all fine (around 15 minutes). The whole thing was 1400 so not much more than ... getting a finger bandaged WTF !!!!!!!

Still too expensive. Same stuff here would cost you maybe $100-$200, and mind you, this is when you're paying privately, without insurance. With insurance, the price would be a joke. I guess that's why "dental tourism" as they call it is getting more and more popular in Eastern Europe.

After working on a hospital for two years now, its laughable how much of a scam and ripoff USA's hospitals are.

Fixed.

Well there is your problem.

Depends, if the person he was visiting was any good. There is an old lady (70+ years old) not too far from where I'm living, and people across the country have been visiting her for decades, especially for dislocated body parts or similar problems. And she only charges 2-3 $ per person.

If you're visiting one, make sure that they're actually good at what they do. The certificate / title means nothing.

Regular MD's don't work like that most of the time. You can't just show up to your doctor's office for an injury, without an appointment. They'll just tell you to the emergency room. That's what it's there for. It's dumb, I know. But most doctor's are so over-worked and over-booked, they simply can't do it any other way.

Over here they try to discourage people to go to the emergency rooms for such small things, and just see your MD.

As people flooding the emergency rooms with nothing more than a ingrown toenail or alike, especially during the weekends, and costing the hospitals a lot of money.

Which is covered btw....

Medical care, among other things, are really effed up in the US. Sorry to say that.

I have first hand experience with BS that goes on in hospital bills. I was visited by 3 different doctors 3 times euch just to say Hi and check my heart rate\breathing\gave me their business card. For every visit it costs me $300. Their visits had nothing to do with my health issues.

I guess you ended up with heart problems after seeing the bills though.... :-\

There's no such thing as "good" chiropractor.. It's a con pure and simple.  If you're having problems with your back or other body parts, you need to see a properly qualified and regulated physio therapist, not a quack bone cracker who's far more likely to cause you injury than fix anything.

The sciatica pain I felt was quite real, and the chiropractor pushing the disc back in place did help.

I eventually figured out how to fix myself, and stopped going to him.

I do agree however, that chiropractors are more about stringing you along with endless visits, rather than healing you. ;)

Well, to be fair he should have been charged the 8k to make up for the fact that he was stupid enough to take up important space from people actually needing emergency treatment, what with his neosporin covered band-aided cut and all. Sheesh

He didn't say you don't pay for it, he said they don't profit from it.  We all pay national insurance, which pays for the NHS, making it free at point of use.

You can't get paid/make a living if there is no profit.

Some of the money charged goes to the medical staff.

Incorrect.  Paying staff is all part of the costs of running the health service, profit is a whole other matter entirely and is what's left over after ALL operating costs are covered. The NHS is a non-profit, state run organisation.

But, but, people loves Obamacare! /s

Seriously though, that is outrageous for the hospital to charge that kind of cash when the corner store has a bottle of disinfectant alcohol for a few dollars and a box of band aids for under $10.

Now this is the scary part...     $400-1000 for getting a finger bandaged?!

You got that right.

In the US ---Box of Band-Aides enough for 30 cuts/abrasions $3-6.       1 - 32oz bottle of peroxide $1.97-3.          1 - tube Antibiotic Ointment $5-12. Those should last you months (unless you have a 3 year old like mine)

Like our government ?  LOL

Heaven knows it never profiteers.

Not sure why this is news... He went to an ER and got charged for going to an ER...

You don't get to go to a top tier steakhouse and complain that they charged you $100 for a plate of food when you can get a steak meal at Hard Rock Cafe for $25...

ERs should be as expensive as possible. People should go to the ER for actual emergencies. Not for stuff they can see a GP for or even an RNP at an urgent care center. Too many people in the US has replaced their doctors with ER visits and this is a major problem that needs to be reversed.

Wow. I'm glad I live in the UK. Although the NHS is slowly becoming privatised as well.

you know the nhs is part private right?

your gp - private

hospital suppliers (food, mri/ct scanners are usually rented) - private

a lot of new employees are locus - private.

as for americans complaining about this = tough! you want better healthcare then vote for it.

Britain on the other hand doesn't seem bothered enough to do jack to protects theirs.....

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.
    • The AI data centers need it more than us so...let them gobble it all up at that price!
    • "CRAZIER than ever!" Crazy Taxi: World Tour is officially coming soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega announced it is working on bringing back some of its classic franchises in 2023, and while it has taken some time, the company finally gave fans a look at one of these new projects at the Xbox Games Showcase today, which turned out to be a brand-new Crazy Taxi entry. Watch the debut trailer above, which has snippets of gameplay in between the cinematic bits while blasting a track from The Offspring. Dubbed Crazy Taxi World Tour, this installment is aptly being described as being "CRAZIER than ever!" The director behind the original, Kenji Kanno, is helming this new entry as well, which will come with access to five new cities to drive in, competitive multiplayer modes, a vehicle customization system, and more. Axel is returning as a protagonist as well, but this time a mystery driver is offering him the opportunity to take his adventures to the streets in other countries. This will involve Axel chasing down masked villains that have somehow stolen his taxi, which means even more extreme missions and challenges to overcome. "From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money," says Sega about this new installment after over 20 years. "Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges." The studio has even confirmed an in-game Arcade Mode that players will be able to access containing the original games for plenty of nostalgic action. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently slated to release sometime in 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
    • Good, because the nonstop chattering from the voices in her head made me quit the second game.
