-Berlin-

Microsoft is expected to launch Debian Red (firmware), Lumia 730, and Lumia 830

What we expect

What is Microsoft announcing? So far all indications are pointing to two new Lumia Windows Phones, including:

  • Lumia 730 ? Featuring a 4-7-inch HD display, 5 MP front-facing camera, 1 GB of RAM and unibody design, this successor to the popular Lumia 720 should be a hit for those looking for a premium budget phone
  • Lumia 830 ? The followup to the Lumia 820 from 2012 should deliver an affordable flagship design with its 5-inch HD display and rumored 10 MP PureView camera. The design itself is very reminiscent of the current Lumia 930, but reportedly it is thinner
  • Accessories and new firmware? Microsoft and Nokia rarely just announce new phones and then walk off the stage. Nope. Usually there are supporting accessories and new gadgets to go along with it, and we would not be surprised to see some new creations from the Mobile Devices team revealed in two days. Likewise, we reported on the followup to the Lumia Cyan software codenamed 'Debian Red', which we are hoping gets some light shed on it in Berlin.

You beat me to it, I was going to make this topic in a bit.

2hrs 40mins to go!

http://conversations.nokia.com/2014/09/01/ready-for-morelumia/  For live stream of the event.

I missed the first 5mins of the event but now they're showing the camera software improvements coming.

Oh, they've talking about the Lumia Denim firmware update.

Lumia 830 just shown for the first time.

Oh god, that miracast device name, it looks pretty nice but come on MS, what's with the crazy names?

Lumia 830 will be 330 Euros before taxes and so on.  Not bad, it has good specs.

Hey Cortland passive voice coming to Lumia firmware denim and faster camera speed yay,

Nokia camera (formerly pro cam and smart cam) is now Lumia camera

500 apps per week

320K apps in the WP Store

Somehow wpcenteal reports the new Lumia selfie app works on Lumia 530. But it does not have a front camera right?

The app can use your rear camera, it'll beep until your face is centered and then take the picture, don't need to see the screen.

I like the prices overall, also the fact that they're going to hit retail this month and not months from now like before.

330euros for the 830 and 199euros for the 730.  The 735 is 219euros.

73x has a 5MP front camera and a 6.7MP rear camera.

Here are the full specs for the two phones.

I'm hoping the Glance screen abilities are something they make part of the OS itself and that anyone can get if they have the right display required for it to work.   It's also good that these are going to go to market this month iirc.    I'm hoping they can release high end flagship devices in a few months, I"m thinking for November maybe, next up.

If you look at it, they seem to be on a new cycle, starting with the low end, now mid-range and next up should be high-end and phablets.  We got the 630 and later the 530 in June-July.  Now the 730 and 830 in September, so 2-3 months apart, would mean that if this is the new trend for Lumia, we'll see a 1030 and so on in November, before the holidays.

And from what I've been reading, the 830 and 730/735 are only going to be available in Europe, not the United States? If that's the case, that's an epic failure on Microsoft's part.

I haven't seen that stated, they haven't said it officially anywhere and the WPCentral guys haven't said that, they're usually on top of these details.

720 never made it to the US either, right? US only had 820 but it felt more of a step child that tagged along the ride.

Phone subsidies in the US market makes it difficult to market I think. You either have extreme low end in $99-149 no contract (530-63x) or extreme high end in $99-199 (930 and above) with standard 2 year contracts.

Personally I think MS is better off selling unlocked 730-830 from their own stores.

Apparently since the 4K video is not coming to lower ends, a HD moments feature will be added instead of moments capture. To Lumia Camera that is.

    • Windoze 11 could finally go to hell, instead of making me savor yet another error I've never had. "Bad Pool Caller" or whatever TF cryptic crap0la message it is. Adding salt to injury, it says something along these lines (on the blank black screen after it hard stops): "Your windoze needs to restart. You can restart." NO WAY SHERLOCK. The PEECEE, look, it's *blocked*, I can do jack sh1t with it as it is and you say that it needs to restart? Further, that I can restart? What am I supposed to do, take a herbal bath? Sudo a sandwich? Timewaster pile of useless slop and errors, coded by monkeys and force-fed on us by a pedo-founded corporation, that's all there is to it. Now, let's have a fun weekend trying to handle the error, which after a quick internet check can basically be due to EVERYTHING, from memory faults to drivers to motherboard issues. Thanks M$.
    • Zen Browser 1.21.3b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. Compact Mode: Maximizes screen space by minimizing UI elements. Zen Glance: Quick website previews. Split Views: View multiple tabs in the same window. Sidebar: Access bookmarks and tools quickly. Vertical Tabs: Manage tabs vertically. Container Tabs: Separate browsing sessions. Fast Profile Switcher: Switch between profiles easily. Tab Folders: Organize tabs into folders. Customizable UI: Personalize browser interface. Security Features: Inherits Firefox’s robust security. Fast Performance: Lightweight and optimized for speed. Zen Mods Customization: Deep customization with mods. Quick Access: Easy access to favorite websites. Open Source: Built on Mozilla Firefox with community collaboration. Community-Driven: Active development and feedback from users. GitHub Repository: Contribute and review the source code. Zen Browser 1.21.3b changelog: New Features Updated to Firefox 152.0.1 Fixes Fixed transparency not working after updating to 1.21.2b (#14259) Fixed frequent crashes affecting users with Intel Raptor Lake processors Fixed an issue on macOS where choosing a PDF option, such as "Save as PDF", from the system print dialog would send the job to your printer instead of saving a file. • Microsoft, why can't I just turn off Copilot on my MS account (in order to stop OneDrive from wanting to summarize everything, ahem) in a way that doesn't break OneNote instead?
