MS releases Cyan for 100 more Windows Phone and operator combos.

Recommended Posts

Following yesterday's Preview update for Windows Phone 8.1.1 to build 14176, the Lumia Cyan update was also unblocked for many users who had the Preview for Developers installed.

Starting earlier today, Microsoft has confirmed that "100 more Windows Phone device/operator combos" are now getting the Lumia Cyan update. We confirmed that these are in addition to a large batch released yesterday, and it applies for those on the Preview for Developer program who previously could not get the Cyan update.

In order to check for the update, users can head into Settings > Phone update to see if one is waiting. Likewise, for some users launching the Preview for Developers app and disabling enrollment, then checking results in success as well (you can later re-enable the Preview after the update).

Unfortunately, we currently do not know which carrier/Lumia combos are part of this new 100, so you will just have to take your chance.

People start getting it yet, post your combo if you have.

:(

You would think that carrier-free devices would get this first. Full retail Lumia 920 bought from Sweden, nothing new here.

This is specific to those still on the DP, if you get off of the developer preview the odds are that you'd have Cyan already.

:(

It's a bit like roulette, just have to keep trying till you win an update.

I did get an update for the DP on my Lumia 521 (T-Mobile), but no Cyan (yet).

Odds are good that you will now, whatever problem they had with the older DP build and Cyan not working should be fixed with the new build that you just got.   I mean heck, they even fixed the problems they had with HTC phones and I finally got 8.1.1 yesterday as well.  But I didn't get any firmware updates from HTC or anything.

I had 8.1.1 since it was released, but I am always hesitant to do an update. First, it takes forever. Second, the gears constantly spinning with little indication of completion also scares me. Third, I need my phone throughout the day, which means I have to do it at night, which means I have to stay up waiting for my phone to update to make sure I can use it the next day. The WP updates take forever.

Updating my 8X to 8.1.1 wasn't long actually and the update for me was all 3 of the 8.1.1 builds to date back to back.    They do need to work out why the updating status bar at the start, the one under the gears, takes so long to get going.   That's always been the case though, it doesn't move for a while and then just jumps ahead to show it's half done or something.  I'm used to it now after all these updates so I just leave it alone till I see that it's rebooted again and asking for my SIM pin number.

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
