I?d like to take a moment to address the state of matchmaking in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and tell you what we?re doing about it.

Players have expressed frustration at poor matchmaking times, or bad experiences in general. This is something we are working 24/7 to isolate and fix. Since launch, we have done a number of daily server-side tweaks to improve this experience and our data indicates these adjustments have helped considerably, but the state is still far from where it needs to be.

Over the past 48 hours, we believe we have identified the primary matchmaking issue, and are working on a solution right now. In the meantime, we?ll be rolling out additional tweaks over the next days to further improve the experience while we ready this solution. We are monitoring the data and working on tweaks that should continue to improve your matchmaking experience while we prep. In addition, we?ll be releasing a game Content Update tomorrow that will address non-matchmaking related issues. For more details, please visit our support FAQ on our forums that is being updated in real-time: http://www.aka.ms/TMCC.

An additional measure you will see take effect today, is that we?ve decided to trim the hopper list to allow us to drive population to those that are functioning the best ? this will serve to further increase the speed with which you find games. We will bring the other hoppers back online as things improve, but our primary focus right now is getting you into matches. For details on which matchmaking playlists are being temporarily taken offline, please visit our support FAQ here: http://www.aka.ms/TMCC.

We are doing everything we can on an hourly basis to improve the experience, while we work on our solution. In the meantime, we?ve found a few things looking at the data that can help you a little as well. We?re seeing successful match times from anywhere from 15 seconds to 4 minutes. 4 minutes is a long time to wait for a match, but don?t quit out too quickly as it will come. If you haven?t found a match within about 4 minutes, please exit the search and restart, as this will reset the parameters and increase the likelihood of entering a match. I realize this isn?t ideal, but it?s temporary while we sort things out.

I?d like to personally apologize to you all for the current situation. I can assure you we?re attacking this from all directions from 343 Industries to the Xbox platform, and we won?t rest until it?s what it should be. People are reporting improvements across the board, which is great, but we?re not backing down until we finish this fight.

Here?s a bit more information on what to expect next week in terms of MCC updates:

  • Daily server-side tweaks to continue to improve time to get into games
  • A Content Update tomorrow that addresses some campaign fixes and scoring issues
  • Content Updates and server side tweaks over the next week focused on matchmaking

If you aren't playing SP, I suggest just starting the H2 campaign -- they added a cutscene before the actual game's first scene starts that definitely pertains to Halo 5.

SP isn't without it's issues, though the glitch that happened to me was kind of awesome. The game somehow thought I was a level ahead in Halo 1 after level 6, and so it completely skipped The Library

Also I have to say now that I started H2 that while the H1 graphic update was cool, H2's update is downright amazing. The art is awesome and the cutscenes look like they damn near just did live action remakes of the old game. And the fact that they updated all of the sound is just cool.

He was referring to all gaming media, not one fan site as you put it.

Also, fight the good fight? You guys crack me up. It always a war

Seems like gaming news sites are starting to report on it though, so no need to worry.

People really do takes thing too literally around here, and this is a perfect example. Fight the good fight is an expression that can be applied to many different situations. It means standing up for something you believe in that others may not necessarily believe in. In this case it has nothing to do with console wars, and everything to do with the fact that there are quite a few members here, myself included, that have no problem discussing both sides of the story. You can twist my words to make them what you want, but I am letting you know in this case you are very wrong in your interpretation. I do not fight any stupid console war. I am 39 years old and pledge no allegiance to any company at all. I just tell it like it is. That is the good fight I was referencing. Not being biased.

And to be technical he actually said "not quite made the press" which again I interpreted as meaning "not getting much press" which means not being discussed a lot. Sure, he also could have meant other sites and very well may have meant that, however I let him know why it would not be getting discussed, "or getting much press," on this website.

Thank you for explaining yourself. I happen to fall into your camp as well it turns out. I also have no problems discussing both sides. I'm just used to people being biased regardless of age, unable to step back, and making comments like that. Its clear you aren't one of those people, so I'm glad of that. I've been tired of the same old 'war' for decades, so its nice to know sane people still exist. Sorry about lumping you in with the 'rabble'

So let's fight the good fight. It seems like an endless effort sometimes though.

Well as you said, sometimes we take posts on forums too literally. It happens.

With that said, there are some of us who do not join this forum as Windows enthusiasts and just computers and electronics overall enthusiasts, so we fight the good fight when we can.

As one of those members, I'd like to see the site evolve in a more "overall" direction than continuing with it's MS heavy news, reports, etc.

Presenting one side is a good way to get ignored.

This site isn't really too biased when it comes to the consoles. Really we get more PC master race BS than we do anything else, and the Sony fans here can be pretty rabid. But if anything, at a bare minimum, this site is not pro XBox even if it is pro Microsoft.

The state this game launched in is unacceptable  :/ I've made it into a multiplayer match, but it still takes five minutes or more. The playlists for multiplayer don't really let you play what you want, and I've encountered several show-stopping bugs in the campaigns. I just got done with the first mission of "Halo 4," for instance, and after the cold open and logo, the screen went black and a red debug error message saying "Untrackable build" (or something like that) popped up in the top left corner. I couldn't even get back into the menu system.

Had I known it would have launched in this state, I wouldn't have bought it.

This is not directly related to the MCC multiplayer issues, but a general observation of bad launch issues. AC Unity is a clear one, but it has issues of all sorts.

MCC has serious multiplayer issues, but my experience with SP and online co-op has been fine so far, no big bugs or anything. I know some people are running into SP issues, but it seems like that is much smaller than matchmaking issues.

Then you have the new WoW expansion, which launched with several progression breaking bugs, not to mention server issues. Some of the biggest features of the expansion are simply unusable at the moment.

So you have Ubisoft, 343i, and Blizzard all dealing with launch issues. At least Blizzard and 343 seem to be the most aggressive and transparent about resolving issues.

But if anything, at a bare minimum, this site is not pro XBox even if it is pro Microsoft.

Let's steer the conversation back to H:MCC, please.

OK. The game is broken and unplayable trash. I can't even link up with a friend to play co-op campaign while waiting out matchmaking's failures. What more is there to say?

Here is a challenge: Take the original Xbox, put Halo 2 in it, and see how much time passes between the console being turned on and the point of the player entering a multiplayer custom game.

Do the same with the XB1 and then wonder how we can back track so far 10 years later...

The gen is extremely disappointing. I'd take a full refund without hesitation.

There are so few places that try to cover all MS news, it seems strange that people that don't want to hear MS news would demand such a site devote less to that topic.

If your upset by 'fanboys' then that's a different problem entirely. The forums don't seem as one sided as I have heard it use to be though. Still, all we can do is try to discourage extreme behavior.

Well if you really can't play the game at all, then get a refund if you can. I wouldn't put up with that. Since I have been able to play co-op, I'm willing to wait on the mp matchmaking issues to be resolved hopefully next week.

It sounds like you should return the console and get the refund.

I don't know what your on about but custom games and co-op are working fine :s

So I just encounted the Untracked Build bug on Halo 4 on loading the reclaimer mission.

Another update:

I?d like to provide the latest on Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and what the team is working on to address the issues you?re experiencing.

Looking at our data logs, server-side adjustments that we have made over the past 24 hours have shown a 20% increase in server connectivity. However, we are well aware that performance is not where it needs to be. Resolving Matchmaking issues also requires client-side fixes, which require a content update. The client side update, which focuses on Matchmaking performance, non-matchmaking bugs, and a variety of title-specific issues, has been completed and is going through testing and certification. We are currently targeting a release of Wednesday 11/19 for this content update.

We know the current Matchmaking experience is frustrating, and we continue to have various teams working 24/7 to isolate and resolve the issues to provide the best experience as soon as possible. We are going to continue to optimize the matchmaking experience after next week's content update, and make further adjustments as needed. We thank you for your continued patience.

I feel like changing your review doesn't reflect well on your credibility. You either made some assumptions in your initial review, or just want clicks. They all gonna change their score again after they fix the issues?

Not saying 343 shouldn't be getting flak, but that the reviewers jumped the gun if they need to be doing this.

Adjusting the reviews based on a temporary issue doesn't really make sense. Anyway it seems to be working fine now on my end.

Another question, did they tune the difficulty on these games? It seems like Heroic on Halo 1 is about as hard as Legendary was on Halo 4 on the Xbox 360.

I've actually been wondering that as I've been playing on normal and having more issues than I feel like I should be in high action situations. I'm not that much older... :P
