I'm having the same dvd error problem as everyone else. I just did a few of the addon programs to teset and update.. I will try to do a full format in a few days after I am done trying to rescue my cdr's that are damaged so I don't have reinstall the programs on the newly formated computer! it looks to me like all the files are in the folder.

The only thing I can think of is maybe it doesn't like that it was renamed? I'm still tryin' to figure out the cause... :D

I'm thinking it may be the version of the .Net framework I included doesn't need that patch anymore... if so, then it will be removed from the Jan update, and just uncheck it and hit "Save as Default". :)

And what version is that? 1.1 still needs that update.

Is the .NET framework installer packaged like you said it would be?

I assume .NET framework is being installed BEFORE the update is being applied...

Check the TEMP folder for any logs related to the .NET Framework installation...

Yes it's 1.1... someone said the newest 1.1 didn't need the patch, so I wasn't sure. Yes, the .Net is installed perfectly via the exe, the error is on the patch and it's installed after .Net... now I've yet to get the error, so I have no logs to post...

Well actually the file is there, it's just named something different (WindowsXPMediaPlayer9DVDPack.msi)... you could try renaming it and see what happens...

@xStainDx - True for the most part, but I know a number of things that require it be installed, and not come with it (one is a fave screensaver of mine)... I only included it because it's an update on Windows Update, and I know some things require it. But it's not the .Net framework that's the problem, it's the update... which is odd, the update didn't change the way it worked from the last one. :/

Well why is it looking for DVDpack.msi? thats the pack i installed earlier for the ability to watch dvds. Is it maybe trying to remove that pack before installing yours? Shouldn't it just use your dvd pack and install over it, but if you don't have name anywhere specified where is it getting it from?

I'm not to worried about it .. but I'm not even sure what the dvd pack adds anyway.. but I just thought I would let you know. Everything else looks great! I think I might try to gather information on some of the addon files and make a nice webpage or something listing what each thing does. I'm stilling finding I'm having to go and look up a few things to find out what it could possibly do to my system.

Excellent work though guys ! I like the the graphics and format ! looks alot cleaner! More professional!

You do know it requires the latest version of MDAC before .NET Framework can be installed right?:oo

The install on my computer b0rked once when I didn't install MDAC 2.8 ...:alien::

I had MDAC 2.8 selected and I still got the error when trying to install .NET Framework 1.1 with AuroPatcher.

Without AutoPatcher, I can install .NET Framwork 1.1 by itself on a clean install first (without MDAC 2.8) without any errors, so I really don't think MDAC 2.8 is necessary first. Also, I get the first error, (see my screen capture above) even when the patch isn't selected.

It's kinda confusing, because I know tons of people who aren't getting it, and then a few of you are... I wish I could figure out why you are, and they're not... don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of these eventually.

Only thing i dislike about AP is that is meant for the English(American) version of Windows.

And when i try to install it keep saying " Files have been replaced with unknown language files, please insert Windows XP CD" and stuff like that, really annoying.

But it seem to work ...

Well, do you see at the top... it says "English"... :p You can make your own custom language version, go to the "Documentation" Folder and read! ;)

I don't doubt that you will FlishFun, and I hope that I don't sound like a whiner with these posts. I'm really just trying to help in some small way. AutoPatcher is the kewlest project I've seen in a while and I want to thank you and Raptor for your efforts and contribution to the scene. Thes sorts of contributions have a way of paying off in the long haul.

On a side note; when you test, do you do a fresh clean install from scratch or from some kind of restored image of a clean install? I myself test on a fresh clean install which is somewhat time consuming because I have to attend to all the stuff (CD-Key, Computer Name / user, Workgroup, etc...) That is why I am really looking forward to this Unattended CD Maker tool being updated.

Yep... I have a spare 6 GB HDD that I format and load XP Pro with XPSP1a on it. Then I run the AP. Don't load drivers or anything else first. lol Then I verify everything works...

A different muchmore minor bug is in the Autorun.inf

When it's used it gives this error:

[Program Not Found]

Windows cannot find Autopatcher.exe.

The problem is in the .inf the open line is :

open=AutoPatcher Menu.exe

It does work ok if it's changed to

open="AutoPatcher Menu.exe"

there is also a hotfix missing, http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/7...217-x86-ENU.exe

you have it in the database but its not in the patcher

There is in the full version.

FYI:

Q823718_MDAC_SecurityPatch

Not needed when you are installing MDAC 2.8.

okay, i just finished a clean install of XP Pro SP1a (slipstreamed)...here's what i came up with:

Initially, the Self-Extractor didn't work, but that was because of NTFS permissions on the partition it was trying to extract to, so no bug there. (reason i mention it is because i saw someone post that error box in another thread maybe...)

The Windows Messenger Removal Error (of course.) But I did want to mention...In the program when you select options of which items to install and what not, you cannot uninstall Windows Messenger without installing MSN Messenger 6.1...bug or feature?

I also got the .NET error message (the funny looking one with the question marks) it did not install correctly apparently, because it came up on windows update after i looked. this installation was from another hard drive.

Also, a suggestion: add this line of code to the batch file for the Sun Java VM to remove that desktop icon (or make it an optional tweak)

del/q "%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\Java Web Start.lnk"

Hey, there is some unneeded file named INSTALL.EXE. It's related to the .NET Framework from checking its properties. Delete that file and see if .NET framework installs again.

I have no clue why a Japanese version of the bootstrapper is in English version of APXP.

/EDIT: OMFG I AM UNRESTRICTED!!!!!1111111

i think i've found a solution to the .NET question mark problem...

in "AutoPatcher XP\AXPFiles\NETFrame11.axp"

"%AutoPatcherXP_Dir%\ProgFiles\dotnetfx.exe" /q /c:"install \q"

should be

"%AutoPatcherXP_Dir%\ProgFiles\dotnetfx.exe" /q /c:"install /q"

(the backslash shouldn't be a backslash :) )

i'm getting ready to test it.

    • Exciting! It’s amazing how hearing Japanese can naturally enhance the perceived quality of any experience or product.
    • Your other comment in another article says otherwise, namely "Microsoft veteran wants to replace every single line of C/C++ code with Rust and AI".
    • Sued and... exonerated. Oh, they learned a lesson alright. They learned that anyone who uses the word "antiturst" in conjunction with "Microsoft" is an idiot, even if that person is Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. That judge ruined the image of the US justice system. Microsoft Edge has a 5.14% market share. Also, Windows is no longer the #1 OS. None of this constitutes a monopoly. Google Chrome, however, has 70.25% share. Also, Google's Android is the #1 OS. Now that's closer to a monopoly.
