Okay.....1st my compliments on an outstanding program.  Then will add some additional info ref'd to the minor problem with the .NET installations (on the Dec Full install program).  I'm sure that this small problem has been addressed to some extent; but, this is what was noticed on 2 seperate computer updates.  The updates were done from a burnt CD in which I had already corrected the \q to /q typo within the "NETFrame11.axp" file.

On the 1st machine, I left the default (both items ticked) to install both the .net framework and the update.  An error ballon?? occurred for the Update installation (NDP1.1-KB824629-x86.exe) and the update stalled until you pressed the "ok" button and then preceeded until the autoupdater ending.  Apparently neither the .net framework or the update patch installed; because, after rebooting - ran the windows update and it listed the .net installation as still needing to be installed.  Now on the 2nd machine, ran same cd configuration but only leaving the .net framework install ticked and untick the .net update.  This setup ran flawlessly from begining to end and installed the .net files properly.

can you reproduce the error?

maybe write down what it says?

I have problem and I'll ask of it again...

When I'm trying to install the program says: "Checking defaufts" and freezes...

What to do with it?

My machine:

Celeron 700, ABIT BH6 (Intel440BX), 256 SDRAM,

Windows XP PRO ENG SP1a

Previously I used Autopatcher 4.0 without any problems....

xlnt work all in all flish, one problem i noticed is nothing major but worth fixing in the jan update.l

the tweakomatic shortcut created in the start menu is pointing to the database of its reg edits, not to the actual tweakomatic application.

it should point to tweakomatic.hta, though be warned most major antivirus programs will pop up an alert b4 you can run tweakomatic, but it is perfectly safe.

Whoops! Well, I'll fix that for Jan. :D

@CyberFox - I believe Raptor is checking into that... don't worry, we didn't forget aboutcha! :)

getting the same problem as the other user. Some files arent copying over when i do an upgrade from nov to dec release. i also suspect the XCOPY "%APUpd%\December\AutoPatcher XP" "%AutoPatcherXP_Dir%" /S /E /Y in the update.axp

question: does the autopatcherxp install xcopy on the machine? i did a search and my computer doesnt have xcopy.

anyone have a list of the files in autopatcherxp dec release they can send? i could rebuild it from there, because the files are in the ap_dec_update.exe they just dont update ...

ok i was thinkin it was like xxcopy ;) Still i cant get the files to copy over when running the updater, can anyone do a directory list of their autopatcher folder?

i dont have the WindowsXPMediaPlayer9DVDPack.msi thing either, i see a handful of files its not copying over.

Try this... open the AutoPatcher (the November Update). Get to the file tree... then exit. THEN run the updater. If it works, let me know... I think I have an idea...

nope, same results, besides the dvdpackage.msi, its' not copying over smigrate.cab startupcpl.exe target.dll, the aspi or vblibs directories, a whole bunch, so i manually copy'd em over, but i think i get new "errors" with that :) i ran this on a fresh install of winxp and dotnetfix.exe crashed and i got an installation failed box right before installing the target menu context. the path i did was from the first autopatcher, then upgraded with novemberupgrade, now i'm trying to upgrade again with dec upgrade.. should i just redownload the whole thing? i really need a print out of the directory. :( so i can compare. ie. c:\ dir *.* /s > list.txt

someone who downloaded the dec updater check your progfiles directory and see if it contains things like the aspi folder, tweakomatic stuff, target.dll , target.inf , startupcpl.exe , etc.. mine doesnt copy over to the november update even though i get no errors.

can anyone with ap dec in full, give me a readout of their directory ..at command prompt ... dir *.* /s > list.txt

here ya go.

ap.txt

Annoying bug in AP 4.2. If the user has Dual Head and the primary monitor is the right hand monitor with the secondary monitor to the left, the window placement is wrong.

It seems, it works out the full width of the desktop and then uses that to locate the window. Unfortunately, that's not right :(

/me points programmers to the MultiMonitor API reference in MSDN.

Another quick fix for the autopatcher flish, just noticed it myself, even if the shortcut you make by default pointing to the tweakomatic database is re-pointed to the actual application "tweakomatic.hta" as we've already discussed it will bring up the app, but say there is a script error, to fix this on the shortcut in the properties add

"%systemroot%\system32\" without the quotes to the "start in" field, and then it will work like a charm.

:p

thanks for the list , cpugenius, after comparing i only had to do a few things. The dec updater only deletes the unneccesary files from the nov package, it doesnt copy the progfiles over ,nor the undo tweaks, so i manually copied em over. then going from your list, my gpc.msi was only 4.5meg instead of 5meg so i got the new one from microsoft.com , from there after fixing the dotnet axp thing /q Everything installs without a hitch on 'shifys slipxp' :) real kewl.

    • Would be good to see Google also being forced to do the same. No promotion of Chrome on Google search. Stop installing into the app data of a locked down machine, etc

    • Browser vendors pen open letter to Microsoft saying "enough is enough" by Usama Jawad We have seen Microsoft resort to questionable tactics in the past to get more customers to use Edge, such as "bribing" people to use Edge, testing new behavior so that Edge loads automatically on startup every time, and pressuring OEMs to exclusively bundle Edge in Windows PCs. However, the company often receives pushback not only from customers but also from the Browser Choice Alliance (BCA). Now, the collective has penned an open letter to the Redmond tech firm to highlight its dissatisfaction with its practices. For those unaware, BCA is a coalition that touts several browser vendors as its members, including Google Chrome, Midori, Opera, Vivaldi, BrowserWorks, and Wavebox. Its latest open letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasizes that "enough is enough" and that user choice on Windows should be respected. It claimed that the company is abusing its dominant position in the PC space to push customers to its first-party browser, even if they don't want to use it. To do this, it resorts to shady tactics, some of which we highlighted at the start of this piece. It says that Microsoft is making it very difficult for users to set their preferred browser across all touchpoints. This is problematic as PCs are becoming even more prevalent in the AI era, so user choice is being restricted across even more devices, further frustrating users (and competing browser vendors). As such, BCA has urged Microsoft to take the following actions to level the playing field: Allow browser suppliers to compete for preinstallation and default deals with Windows PC manufacturers End dark patterns targeted at users seeking to download and effectively use other browsers (including as system-level default) Bring back the ability for users to make switching default browsers simple and transparent with a “single click” change for all relevant file types and apps (including PDFs) Open all web links in the users’ selected system-level browser of choice Eliminate manipulative Microsoft-exclusive banners pushing Edge in Windows, including when users are searching for other browsers Stop using operating system updates to push users back to Edge Remove the restrictive configurations of existing S mode devices that block the usage of third-party browsers. It believes that all browsers should compete on merit, as this will drive innovation and healthy competition. Despite its strong wording and publication of the letter openly, it's unclear if Microsoft will pay any heed to the BCA and if this will result in any tangible downstream benefits. We'll likely find out in due time.
