Hi all, I have a new build (467) for you. It fixes the issues mentioned by accuratecopy. Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xtihhv85o26qwnw/AABtfqFOkbFYIyBV6mmnbOEYa?dl=0

Edit: except "Edit" from a Mini Player playlist. That is not a bug, it's just not allowed yet :)

go to Settings, System Display, notifications, apps, power and select Notifications and actions, click Select which icons appear on the taskbar, find Dopamine in the list and click it on, problem solved!

You can drag and drop any icon from the tray flyout menu directly into the taskbar to make the icon always visible.

What the guys above said, is the best solution. Otherwise, right-click the icon and choose "Show Dopamine"

Feels like a bit of a work around to a display problem to me but fair enough. Every other application in my tray either opens a dialogue box on top of the tray or just above so it's not obstructed.

The positioning of the tray controls still needs work. For now it just puts it at the bottom right of the screen. Getting the position of the tray icon on the screen is not trivial. So I delayed that for later.

Edit: hmm you're right! :) It is not topmost. I can fix that. Even if the position is still lazy, I can force it on top.

Edit 2: build 470 should ease the pain a bit:  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xtihhv85o26qwnw/AABtfqFOkbFYIyBV6mmnbOEYa?dl=0

Hi folks,

Tagging is ready! Sigh, that one has been in the making for about a month. Way too long. I've added artwork editing today. That was the final requirement for a public build. I'll test this tomorrow and will probably release a new public build in a day or 2.

The embedded artwork size is shown in a tooltip when hovering the image.

Raphaël, Dopamine is FREAKING AMAZING! Thanks so much for the attention to details as this is the best music player yet. I've been searching forever trying everything from MusicBee to Miro and Groove but they all had shortcomings. The responsiveness of Dopamine is really nice, even with a large library.

I have a feature request (see attached image) . I am less interested in album artwork and more interested in picking via a list so I'd like to be able to shrink the middle area. Come to think of it, I'd like to be able to move the divider in the first column too. Keep up the fantastic work.

Hi, thanks for the feedback! My first attempt at implementing resizable panes failed, so I delayed it for later. But I have definitely planned to look into it once other basic features are added.

That's great news.
Another quick question, many of my albums were transferred from iTunes and Dopamine shows , "Unknown Album Artist" under the album title on the right. Any idea why and where this information is stored? If I edit the metadata outside Dopamine, will it be read properly when updated?

Thanks

That info is read from the Album artist tag in your files. I'd be interested to know where iTunes got its info from (if not from the files, did it get it online?).
If you edit the metadata outside Dopamine, it will be read by Dopamine next time you start it up.

Edit: or, you wait until tonight and edit the metadata directly from inside Dopamine :)

Hi everyone,

I've been working on Dopamine for more than a year now. The goal for version 1.0 (release) was to add just enough features to have a simple useful player. I think I've almost reached that goal. I've created a simple roadmap which shows what I still want to do before releasing version 1.0. "Current" is tonight's build. Current+1 is the next, and so on.

Version 1.0 doesn't mean the end of development, far from it. It will be a strong base to continue building on. All your ideas and requests are safely stored in my source and work item management system. New features will be added in the previews and releases after version 1.0

Current+1

  • Remember selection when refreshing after metadata change
  • Add/change/remove collection album covers
  • Repeat one

Current+2

  • Rescale Now Playing screen content depending on window size
  • Rating
  • Sort albums by year

Current+3

  • Resizable columns
  • Better queuing: queue must be accessible from the full player, "Add to queue" menu item

Version 1.0 final

Bug report. Cache was not updating automatically after editing the cover art. Dopamine still shows the old cover art until I manually removes it from the cache folder.

That's correct. It is something I want to resolve in the next build. I'm still thinking about the easiest way (for the user). Because maybe not everyone wants the album cover to change when changing the artwork which is embedded in the file?

Just a few questions:

1) Will you be adding MTP sync support for devices that use MTP?

2) Does it support gapless playback?

3) Any future plans to possibly bring it to Windows 10 Mobile?

Apologies in advance if these issues have already been addressed.

I'm back with some bugs investigations and requests.

- The cover size on mouse over in the tag editor has a problem, i have a result of 112x112 for covers with a real size of 1400x1400.
- I don't understand why in the "Artist" tag, there are spaces after ";" sign but not in the "Genre" tag.
- The grouping tag is showing information i put in a tag called "Style", and the styles separation is a "/" instead of a ";" i normally use.
- Why don't all artists are shown in the playing banner in the bottom of Dopamine window and in the "Now Playing" section? It is possible to add that?

I enjoy the roadmap to the version 1.0, some awesome features to come, like rating, sort albums by year and repeat one!
Keep up the good work and thank you... :)

1) I didn't know about it until today :) About adding it: I don't know yet. If I do, after 1.0.
2) No gapless playback yet. I'd like to add it. My first estimation for the amount of work was a few weeks, as it is rather complex to implement. It would be after 1.0 too.
3) A universal app is already in the works

- Can you send me an audio file which has all the issues you described?
- For now, only the first artist is shown in the banner. Files are also classified under the first artist. I want to change that, but I don't know when yet.

I got your file. Thank you! I could fix the image size and artists and genres are now shown as they are configured in the tag (both the same way). In your case: without space.

For the grouping tag I'm confused. I checked with mp3tag, ans the value in the tag is with "/" separator, not ";". Which program did you use to tag the files? Does it display a ";" separator instead of "/"?

You're not the only one to be confused about ID3 tags, I use dbpoweramp to rip my CDs in mp3 et flac formats but I have just realized with your post that the space I put after ";" in my tags disappear when I encode the files.
What is the best separator for multiple artists, genres, etc...?
Yeah, for the grouping tag it's more confusing as I don't use "grouping" but a tag called "style" and i put ";" with space after, and mp3tag displays "/" as a separator.

    • "CRAZIER than ever!" Crazy Taxi: World Tour is officially coming soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega announced it is working on bringing back some of its classic franchises in 2023, and while it has taken some time, the company finally gave fans a look at one of these new projects at the Xbox Games Showcase today, which turned out to be a brand-new Crazy Taxi entry. Watch the debut trailer above, which has snippets of gameplay in between the cinematic bits while blasting a track from The Offspring. Dubbed Crazy Taxi World Tour, this installment is aptly being described as being "CRAZIER than ever!" The director behind the original, Kenji Kanno, is helming this new entry as well, which will come with access to five new cities to drive in, competitive multiplayer modes, a vehicle customization system, and more. Axel is returning as a protagonist as well, but this time a mystery driver is offering him the opportunity to take his adventures to the streets in other countries. This will involve Axel chasing down masked villains that have somehow stolen his taxi, which means even more extreme missions and challenges to overcome. "From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money," says Sega about this new installment after over 20 years. "Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges." The studio has even confirmed an in-game Arcade Mode that players will be able to access containing the original games for plenty of nostalgic action. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently slated to release sometime in 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
    • Good, because the nonstop chattering from the voices in her head made me quit the second game.
    • This new cabinet design lets you run AMD, Intel, and Nvidia PCs inside one case by Sayan Sen At Computex 2026 earlier this month, AMD announced a couple of new X3D processors for both sockets AM4 and AM5 as it confirmed the support extension of the latter till 2029. And although Intel didn't unveil any new desktop chips, the company's Core Ultra 200S Plus series is relatively new too. Let's say though that you want the best of both worlds simultaneously, and instead of running two different systems, you can have both running together side-by-side, or rather on top of one another. That's exactly what Thermaltake's CAPO X dual system is made for doing. While it's not exactly mandatory to run AMD with Intel, or vice versa, you get the idea. As you can see in the render above, it is essentially like a double-decker PC case that is capable of holding two microATX (mATX) motherboards. Even running just one discrete graphics card in a PC can get toasty, so you may be wondering how well the cooling is designed on the CAPO X, Thermaltake has confirmed, as is evident from the marketing promo image above, that the case supports up to two 360 mm AIO liquid coolers. 420mm is not supported. In total there is room for 13 120mm case fans. In terms of I/O (input/output) options for the two systems, there are naturally two places for those ports, one at the top and one at the very bottom of the chassis in the front panel. In terms of use cases, there are many possibilities. Thermaltake itself, for example, highlights how one system can be your main PC while the other could be the AI agent PC. Another example given is how it can be used to stream and game simultaneously with dedicated systems instead of hogging one with the entire load. Nothing regarding pricing or availability was said.
