Hi!

I have a home server with low power requirements but a very noisy power supply. I've looked into replacing the fan which some have been able to do but I can't find a low profile low noise fan so I'm now looking into getting a different PSU. The board and CPU maxes out at around 45-50 watts and it's capable of connecting 12 drives. I'm planning on populating all 12 ports on it so I want a power supply that's capable of that and I would guess that under the worst circumstances (highest load possible) the drives would consume up to 60W and 5A. I need a power supply that's very quiet and can supply my server with enough power. I found Streacom Nano150 PSU but the amper

400 watts, isn't too powerful, and you should be very happy with it, you mention it being pricey, but when moving from an item necessary, to an item more convenient, that does happen.

I'll throw in a vote for the seasonic 400 fanless.

What about a 520W fanless PSU?

Or the 400W

You will draw the amount power needed for what your powering so if something using less then 200W from a 400W PSU it will only use 200W and the efficiency to output that power is based on the 80 Plus certification for AC power in to DC power out.

You don't need to worry about overspeccing. The power supply will only draw as much as it needs. So if you have 90w of components, an 800w power supply with 90% efficiency only draws 100w.

The efficiency is not constant, it peeks at around 50%. So using 5W from a 400W PSU is not ideal. Power efficiency at 5-25W isn't specified which is why I was bringing this up. The 80 Plus certification only says that the efficiency needs to be at least 80% at 20%, 50% and 100% load. Efficiency at low power use is rarely talked about since computers either use 0-1W when off or 50W+ when on. The machine that I'm using PEEKS at 45-50W which is why I'm asking all this.

    • Still hate Windows 11, I stuck it on my gaming machine again just for a nose to see what they had done, still as bad. Will restore Windows 10 back on it, suit MS anyway, they don't want me to run Windows 11 on it.
    • Ms did go with the you must sign into an account thing with Windows 8 for a while. The same sort of thing they are doing with Windows now and the MS account.
    • Hello, What sort of Microsoft Authenticator account login approval requests are you getting?  It is a generic authentication app and can be used with all sorts of services (Microsoft Account, Google Account, websites and services that support multi-factor authentication, etc.). • Windows 8? Nah. I found Window 8 worked well, get a third party start menu to get rid of the start screen, I used Start is back and windows 8 was pretty good. I used it even when Windows 10 came out as I found Windows 10 was iffy on my machine at the time was AMD FX Bulldozer based. It was only when I updated the innards to Ryzen that I had no choice but to go to Windows 10 as MS made it difficult to stay with Windows 8. ME, yes, that was not great, I liked the look of it, but it was not stable, shame really because Windows 98SE was the best of the dos based Windows.
