+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 3, 2015 Subscriber² Share Posted March 3, 2015 Sony has sold more than 20.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles, the company announced today during the 2015 Game Developers Conference. The figure is true as of March 1, and applies to units sold through to consumers. The system "continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history," said Sony in a press release today. Sony's previous PS4 update came in January, when the company said global sales of the console had topped 18.5 million units by Jan. 4 +Asmodai, trooper11 and DrunknMunky 3 Share
Polonium
That is some amazing numbers. Especially since MS have reduced the price on the Xbox One several times. kozukumi 1 Share

There have been quite a few bundles for $399 with decent games, not just crap thrown in (GTA5, inFamous).
spenser.d
That is some amazing numbers. Especially since MS have reduced the price on the Xbox One several times. The price of the Xbox has little to do with ps4 sales. Reducing it mostly only increases Xbox one sales, it's not going to reduce ps4 sales much. Should be especially transparent if you believe the Nielsen report about why people are buying the consoles. Or NPD numbers (even when Xbox passes ps4, they both still sold a ton). +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 6, 2015 Author Subscriber² Share Posted March 6, 2015 How long did it take Sony and Microsoft to sell 20 million consoles in the previous generation? IIRC the PS4 is the fastest selling Sony PS platform so far, but I do not have comparison figures at hand just now.

Good news for Sony, they seem to be struggling with other area's and its not like we need reminding, but the Playstation brand has and will hopefully continue to be a leading brand for them
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted March 6, 2015 Veteran Share Posted March 6, 2015 How long did it take Sony and Microsoft to sell 20 million consoles in the previous generation? Both had hit and surpassed 20 million by Q4 2008. So 3 years for 360, 2 for PS3. GotBored 1 Share
GotBored
Agreed - lets not take away Sony's success by suggesting people have been buying it as its the cheaper console. The PS4 is actually more expensive, it is $100 more than the Xbox One in Australia (ebgames) $50 more than the Xbox One in the US (amazon) kozukumi 1 Share
Polonium
It is more expensive now, yes... but at launch it wasn't the case at all. This is kind of what I was saying, the Xbox is cheaper yet still can't shift the amount of units that Ps4 is. It really is quite amazing how well it's sold.
