My Qualcomm snapdragon 615 device overheating [65-75c]

Recommended Posts

recently i have bought a brand new phone named "yu yureka" from indian manufacturer micromax

Chipset Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 CPU Quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 GPU Adreno 405

Internal 16 GB, 2 GB RAM

WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot Bluetooth v4.0, A2DP GPS

Yes, with A-GPS

Sensors Accelerometer, gyro, proximity

Nattery: Li-Po 2500 mAh battery

and it supports 4G LTE, dual sim(sim1=4G sim2= 3G)

though it have lot of software issues (its similar to 1+1 and uses cyanogen mod os/kitkat 4.4.4 preinstalled) they even said rooting doesnt violate warranty so i rooted too

i found temporary fixes for the software issues also calibrated the battery coz it was draining to 0% straight from 48% everytime and now its fixed

the real problem is HEATING.. its a hot stove

in pocket = 35-42c

browsing or call, messaging = 45-48C

skype, whatsapp=50-55c

small games=55-58c

kickass games=65-67c and sometimes 69c but soon comes back to 65c

while doing stress test/benchmark it went up to 70c and even stayed @ 75c for a while like when floating no testing.. sometimes it went to 77c during the process

I COULD MAKE OMLET @ THAT TEMP..lol

i reported to the officials and they said its NORMAL (?? really??? )

i even set cpu governer to balanced/power saving also set the governing mode to INTERACTIVE.. and underclocked the CPU to between 400MHz to 933 MHz it did reduce the temp by 2-3 degrees but not much..

on cpu-z i have noticed that all the 8 cores are always active.. and the speeds are always varying.. one sec it will b 400MHz then within secs it hoes to 800 then soon to 933 then to 600 then back to 933.. its not stable even when no other apps are running

is it coz of badly written cynogen mod? or its a hardware issue? or is it really the normal temperature as the officials said?? [ on xda forums i found that ppl said cpu can withstand 100c and cutoff temp is 90c only] i even found that ppl having same issue on htc one, samsung galaxy s4, moto G... so  its the same with all octa core cpu phones?? please help me out guys.. im worried if my phone might explode.. [ps: battery temp is never over 40c.. its always between 32-38c never more]

its probably a badly designed phone that doesn't dissipate heat properly.

your phone wont explode as long as you make sure battery never crosses 50C(even then it wont actually explode but then it'll be operating outside normal temperatures and the results are unpredictable).

yes with stocck OS.. stock OS is cyanogen itself.. this one is the same as 1+1.. cyanogen will directly send the OTA updates..

i have tested moto E which have a quadcore processor that one also have the same base temperature as mine but that phone's temperature doesnt cross over 60C but for the same game it went to 68c

i called the customer care and they said its NORMAL for this processor and told me to wait for 2-3 days as they are gonna release a FIX.

using cpu-z i have noticed that all the 8 cores are always active and the speed isnt always stabilized it always flexuates between low and high in a increasing then decressing manner within seconds... i observed for 10 secs and within that 10 secs the cps speeds went from 400 mhz then 1.2ghz then 600mhz then 933mhz and then 400 mhz again.. this was going on and on.. so its a OS issue?? may b the OS isnt handling it well??

ps: once i have set the low and high speed ranges to the processors to 633 Mhz.. and in cpu-z i found that only 4 cores were set to 633 mhz other 4 cores were going high and low as usual

Let's hope for nothing out there that can't be fixed .

Nothing certainly yet .

I still suggest you to send it to a repair service .

now there is a new issue.. phone shuts off itself and wont turn on.. i had to remove and reinsert the battery and then power on to make it work back again... battery isnt draining though ( before calibrating the battery i had the same issue) what else could have the reason now ( the cpu temp was at 55 which is quiqt normal for my device now a days)

Sounds like a lemon to me, this is why I avoid no name brands like this one, it's always a crap shoot, and you generally end up with junk

The saying is true, you get what you pay for, cheap will always be bad

It can be software's and even hardware's fault ...

That's usually happens after root + un - root process ...

I observed that all the 8 cores in the processor are running simultaneously without sleeping and this could be the reason for the large heat and huge battery drain.

whatever the power mode(power saving ,balance or performance) the phone is running on all cores. Ideally when no background work or no cpu intensive work is goining on cpu must switch to one or two cores but here with yureka its not happening. It is running on all cores. The problem in kernel should be resolved soon according to CM devs.

This issue appears confined to this specific device on cm11. The internal test builds of cm12 for tomato do not have this issue.

  • 2 weeks later...

i heard so too.. thats y waiting for the cm12's release.. whichis under public beta testing now. i heard the reviews they said better multitasking and no crashing of apps n all.. and no heating issues yet.

Yes quite correct.

Not sure about battery Info though.

    • It could EASILY be 70 for the base game BUT + lots of FOMO to make it up to 100-120, like a few days Early Access, online money, pre-order bonus cars, weapons, missions, clothing, avatars or profile stuff, etc... And still WAY TOO MANY people would buy those and make Rockstar insane money.

    • WTF! Nah, not this one. If you were back then using computers in the 90s or you had a clue, you'd know this was huge and was seen and overused absolutely everywhere and you'd take this article as no more than a retrospective story. That's all it is.
