Chrome - ARC Welder beta

Recommended Posts

Google released "ARC Welder" as a beta. ARC is the App Runtime for Chrome, this was originally designed for ChromeOS to let it run Android apps, and was later a third party port of sorts (ARChon) for the Chrome web browser. Now Google has released it officially as a beta, and as added the beginnings of Play support as well. Works on Windows, OSX, Linux and ChromeOS, needs Chrome 40 or higher.

Toyed with a few apps, it actually runs fairly well all things considered. You install Arc Welder thru the Chrome web store. Launch the app, set up a directory for it, and then you can import your APKs. As it stands it only supports installing one APK at a time on its own, but once imported, you can tell Arc Welder to download a ZIP of the app, which can be installed as an unpacked Chrome extension. Doing that lets you install and run as many as you want simultaneously. It's obviously far from perfect, I tried a few and for the most part though it runs pretty well.

Example from a Windows 7 desktop, toyed with a few apps:
