This question will become more important during the next few years:

"Limits to Growth was right. New research shows we're nearing collapse"

The core of this question isn't "Do you care about the human race", it's "Do you care about anything other than yourself, including your family".

Thankfully, there have been many people throughout history with a vision more grand than "F**k everyone else after I've gotten what I need out of this world". Unfortunately though, there have been many people who thought just that, and that's exactly what holds many nations back and creates a lot of poverty and mayhem in the world.

In the grand scheme of things, humans are new to this game.  I do hope we survive but I see the human race as a two year old in a house full of dangerous objects with no one to tell us "no don't touch that".  Eventually we're going to grab those scissors and end up falling on them as we run across the kitchen.

I don't see why not.

We're the only animal intelligent enough to appreciate the planet. All others live, at least mostly, on instinct. Of course there's the (likely) possibility that other intelligent species exist somewhere in the universe, but I see pretty much no reason why they should have more reason to inhabit this planet than us humans. If they come to take it, they will do so by military force, meaning they are no better than us, so

is there anything you care about what happens to after you're dead and gone?

yeah, i care very much what happens to my relatives.   just because i will be gone i would not want them to die in some apocalypse... :|

I find it troubling that some people here have a "Nope, don't care. I'm gonna die anyway." attitude. Talk about selfishness.

exactly.  guess a lot of people a loners here who just don't care about anything other then themselves.

I have some misanthropic tendencies so... If we travel somewhere else we'll just take it over and kill each other and argue each other to death about who owns it. I mean look at history, even as far back as yesterday.

To be honest, i care about my future first and foremost. Yes i'd like a world in which my daughter can grow up safely and happy but once i'm dead, i'm pretty sure i wont give two hoots any more.

Yes, it would be a shame if the human race became extinct, even after i'm long gone. Humans have evolved far more than any other species on the planet. It would be great if humans one day made it to another planet, or travelled far out in to deep space and discovered other plants with life on.

I personally think theirs loads of awesome things we could do and discover, none of which will likely happen in our life time, or even our children's life time, however considering how far we have come and how much more we have to learn it would be a shame if we were to become extinct.

Sadly half our planet is 100's of years behind the rest... we have bigger issues on Earth to sort out.

Yup.

The real poll should be "do you care about whether or not you behave like a dick?".

Everyone can make a little effort to do their part and care somewhat for their fellow humans and those to come (whether it's blood ties or not).

The human race isn't going anywhere...not in our lifetime at least. Poorly phrased poll. If the poll was about making the world a better place/maintaining/protecting the planet, then sure. We can only do so much with the science, and technology we have today. It sure has come a long way even in the last 100-200 years or so.

Rethink. The human race isn't going anywhere, but who said there wouldn't be a possibility of another race out there coming for us? We're too far on our ass to save ourselves from an external influence.

I think the planet is over populated and some serious birth rate management needs to be instituted. No one wants to deal with that as it's not politically correct, but where do they think all the food is going to come from to feed 10 billion people? Those people will also be contributing to the production of waste and pollution. We're either going to have to expand beyond this planet or start being honest about the situation.

There is too much food on earth. Overpopulation is a myth. Granted, we should be more efficient 10 fold in what we do, but there will be no overpopulation for what we "could" be living like. Remove beef, future problem solved for thousands of years.

    • Apple finally brings the slider for Liquid Glass and many other changes by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off the official live stream of the WWDC 2026 annual developer event. The company began its latest wave of announcements with changes to the controversial Liquid Glass design language, which debuted last year across Apple's entire software ecosystem. A lot of people didn't like Liquid Glass when it first arrived on iPhone and other devices last year. The devices were plagued with transparency issues and whatnot. While Apple improved things over the year, it has now added a new Liquid Glass slider that lets you switch the transparency from clear to opaque. In other words, you can choose the amount of Liquid Glass you want to see on your iPhone instead of an on/off switch, which would only give you two choices. The sidebars now expand to the edge of the window. When you scroll the UI sideways, the refraction continues beneath the sidebar rather than being cut off at the boundary. Moreover, sidebar icons keep their color. Apple has changed the way Liquid Glass is rendered across the system. There is a separation between different layers, which makes buttons in the toolbar stand out from the background. Apple said it "deeply appreciates" the feedback it received from users and has made adjustments to Liquid Glass. New customizations allow Liquid Glass to improve contrast and enable a more vibrant appearance. The new icons have sharper edges, which addresses an old complaint that iOS 26 icons look blurry at smaller sizes. The upgraded Liquid Glass, Apple said, is building on last year's design upgrades by "integrating additional layers of Liquid Glass directly into the artwork itself." Apple's upgraded design language is available on iOS 27, which is arriving this year with no changes to the list of supported iPhones.
    • FWIW, I've been using Helium on Linux and Windows since the first time it was mentioned here. Actually, maybe a day or 3 before, as I searched for it when I saw it mentioned on the MX Linux forums. Haven't had a single issue on either OS. Not bad for a beta.
    • See up until a few years ago y'all could get away with simply denying your war crimes, pretending it never happened. Unfortunately for you, it's the 2020s and Israel's genocide has been livestreamed in real time. You have to be dumber than a rock to think anyone still believes your propaganda. See the cat is already out of the bag. The world already knows who you are so do yourself a favor and just drop the facade. Bet it gets real tiring keep track of all the lies. Take some inspiration from Israeli ministers who boast on live TV they like massacring civilians. Every zionist accusation is after all a confession.
    • He's just reporting what Microsoft posted. https://msmessagecenter.com/MC1381119 It just means that Windows Defender updates will no longer be bundled into the monthly Cumulative Windows security update and will now be a separate download. They'll still be on Microsoft update of course but now they can be released faster.
    • Apple announces iOS 27 with no changes to the list of supported iPhones by Taras Buria At WWDC 2026 in Cupertino, Apple announced iOS 27, the next mobile operating system for compatible iPhones. The update focuses on tweaking and improving last year's iOS 26, particularly in areas like app launch time, Liquid Glass design, and more. Additionally, Apple has reworked Apple Maps with a significantly enhanced Flyover view for a much more realistic view. Apple also promises better performance, smarter search, new Health features, new parental controls, and more. The most important part is that iOS 27 is compatible with all iPhones that can run iOS 26. That means that even the seven-year-old iPhone 11 can run iOS 27 (supposedly better than iOS 26). iOS 27 will be available this Fall, with the first developer betas expected later today. You can follow the live stream here.
