Using IRC (same account) on multiple iDevices

So I'm using Lingo on OS X, though I'm not sure if the developer is supporting or not anymore. But anyways, I have 2 macs and an iPhone and I'll be working with people like eSport team - TSM's web developer. And I want to remain in contact with the developers on multiple devices, especially when I have PM's. So I once signed up for an IRC account through the command (hope I did that right), but I want to know from anyone's possible experience if they keep their chats in sync. If so, could you show me your method of staying connected?

I'm not sure that such a thing would be possible, would it? While I wasn't using OS X, I connected to Neowin's IRC server on my phone and then tried connecting to the same server through HexChat in Windows. HexChat kept telling me that the username was already in use. If I disconnect from the server on my phone and try in HexChat it works, but then I can't connect to the server on my phone (authentication issue.)

The only thing I can think of would be to have <username1>, <username2> etc. but obviously if you did that then PM's sent to <username1> wouldn't be received by <username2>.

EDIT: As an aside though, you did get me to set up IRC on my phone and laptop again, so thanks for that.

You could set up an IRC bouncer like ZNC, then connect with your various clients to it.

I've come to believe just now that Lingo was a ripoff of Textual 5, which is why I can't find Lingo anywhere trying to install on my Mac. So switching IRC clients are a first step.

 

Apparently, Textual keeps my chats in synch with iCloud. So I might have already found the answer to this situation!

You can connect from multiple devices to the neowin irc, but you need to add a |Abc behind the name, the Abc canbe anything an one or or many letters as you can fit, but it needs to be a | after you actual username, as it's what the server uses to separate your username from status and tags. 

 

of course when you connect with your iphone, you won't see the chat lines that have been posted while you where disconnected even if you where connected on your computer at the same time. for that you need a special kind of bot  that connects to the server for you and then you connect to the bot/service. This isn't as common today with IRC being much smaller as it was back in the day when some people made good money selling eggdrops and such.

An IRC bouncer would probably be the best way to go. I personally prefer Quassel (the client and server components, not the standalone client) over traditional bouncers such as ZNC. As the bouncer is integrated into Quassel, you are given dynamic backlog fetching.

 

The client is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.

This is probably the best idea.

 

For our IRC channel we decided that IRC is just showing its age to much these days, so we moved over to Slack, which fulfills more of our requirements.

I wish Riot had better ways to connect all the devs, but being IRC is the only viable option, it's the best I can do.

I know, it's a shame, i still have to use IRC for all the other channels i visit. IRC is great for what it is intended, but once you want extend on that, it falls over bog time.
