Hi guys,

I have read many articles about this update but still I havent found a clear statement about this kind of upgrade.

I have a legit win 8.1. Its not OEM version but key that can be transfered to other PC if necessary ( motherboard change etc. ) but still only 1 PC should have this licence. I think is called box or retail copy if Im right.

According to the statements that I read there is mentioned that if i upgrade to windows 10 it will be constantly updated to the lifetime of the device.

But still I have that version that can be tranfered to other PC which is a little confusing right now because I dont know if the upgrade will change the licence and bound it to current device or it will stay the same that if I change the motherboard for example in about 2 years I can use that key again.

thanks.

I think it is the opposite.  You will still be able to move the 8.1 license, but the 10 license will be fixed.

So if you move to a new machine, you can take the 8.1 license across have to buy another 10 upgrade license (although you would need to uninstall both 8.1 and 10 from the older machine).

I don't know, just speculating as to what I think would make sense.

Let get this straight: if I was to replace the mainboard, I would need to install win 8 then upgrade again? What about after the first year?

After you've upgraded once with a windows 8 license key, the key will be listed as a win 10 key I suppose. So you can't activate win 10 directly with it(Though I'm going to look into it at RTM release since it might be possible) but you can upgrade with the 8 license key anytime to win 10 since it's a white listed or whatever it will be called key.

As example the following win 8.1 iso: http://seapip.com/win8/ accepts win 8 and 8.1 keys, home and pro keys and even upgrade keys. So I might be able to do the same with the win 10 iso I hope :p
