bbc Breaking: Chris Evans to host 'Top Gear'

I respect his knowledge/love of cars but the BBC have screwed up and will never be able to capture the famed chemistry that majority of the viewers want between Clarkson/Hammond/May

To be honest I don't want them too. The most fatal mistake they can make is to try and force that chemistry with the new hosts, that would be a disaster. However, while this may be a great loss (and it is, I will miss the 3 amigos tremendously but considering the will be back in their own new car show we haven't lost them, not yet) this is a chance to try something new and different. This is a sink or swim moment, they'll either break out with something completely different and successful or will fail trying. I for one look forward to seeing what happens next.

The only way the BBC can pull this off is by not trying to repeat what once was.

 

Start fresh, do something new. Chris is a genius at producing TV (up there with Clarkson) but he clearly knows he's going to have to take over the production and make it something different.

It shows that in that little skit on TFI the other night, that him and JC knew full well Chris had the job.

 

Chris and Jeremy have been mates for years, it would be great to see him as one of the first guests on the new show.

 

I'll give it a watch, but i wont be as excited for it as i will be for an actual Clarkson, Hammond and May show.

I used to love TFI Friday, and the special he did the other day was pretty good.

I think many non-Brits won't really get the joke in the opening skit about the death of Top Of The Pops, or even what Top Of The Pops is or was.

 

Basically, for the benefit of folks across the pond, the Chris Evans we're on about is a ginger haired bespectacled TV and Radio presenter

not the actor with the same name that plays Captain America in some daft over-rated movies based upon super heroes from comics.

Slow joker claps.....then walks away with satisfaction. It's not like it's the best t.v.show in the world. It'll be gone soon. And it couldn't come quicker. Opinions are like......@$$ holes. Why are you watching a car show if you don't like cars?

This is where Top Gear has gone wrong in recent years imo. It's expected to appeal to everyone, self-obsessed Americans included.

Perhaps a change of direction will give the show what it needs.

I've seen someone on another site suggest Amy Macdonald as a co-host. That would be very watchable.

Top Gear will simply never be the same anymore and it is sad, but I will give it a chance for at least an episode or two.
