MCSA/MCSE exam advi

Recommended Posts

The issue isn't the cert.  This issue is this right here:

You see, if a 5 year old can read and retain information, simply following the above will get anyone certified (provided that they can read and retain the questionnaire in memory, usually through repetition...see all of the under 10 year old MCSE and MCSA's. Do you think they have the experience or the knowledge to be able to support anyone other than their home network?).  Experienced people in the field know this.  This is why tests like the CCIE are so coveted, it isn't just a Q/A test, it is a test to show your peers that you know what you are doing as they break the equipment and you need to show them, while they are watching, how to fix it.  It isn't a ABCD questionnaire where you can memorize the answers and pick them out.  CCIE proves your knowledge, MCSE proves that you can memorize answers (that is how it is looked at and why it is a running joke in the tech community).  The tests that hold any sort of live practical are the ones that are worth their weight, all others are referred to as (near) useless.

MCSE used to stand for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer...now it stands for Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert.  I can only guess that they even know that it doesn't prove you are a true Engineer.

Personally I find it insulting with someone who calls themselves a MCSE with a braindump.

It is a hard test if you are forced to learn it. MCSA by the way is only 1/3 multiple choice. A lot are diagrams and some have have 8 answers where you have to drag 3 or 4 in the correct order. If you have HyperV in a lab but use another product at work this one can be tough as you never know when to shut off the VM or can you shut off the vm or pause it? Should you pause it or shut it off? You need to memorize each state for each config item whether you need to shut it off, pause it, or turn off the vm if you select the ordered questions which have a high percentage compared to the other questions. You need to change x in vm1 what do you do 1st in terms of pausing it, shutting it off, or running it. Let's say you want to only export some of the settings or a VM is not configured right. Which setting do you change to prevent x from happening and do you shut it off, pause it, or do it live etc?

So no it is not all multiple choice of what is the command prompt? That others laugh about who never actually have taken the test.

A good rapport also helps...

Why is there a T at the end of that word? I hate silent letters! It's a worthless letter. Take the T off and you still have a word which looks and sounds like rappor, it's a gratuitous T

If there is a way to cheat people will do it, people will do it frequently, and that will bring down its worth.

You do not see bar exam or Lord forbid medical exam brain dumps. Why just MCSE?

It isn't just mcse, it is most tech exams

It seems CCNA and CCIE are well respected. MCSE is a liability for some employers to put on a resume as it hurts the chances of getting a job. On Slashdot.org this was discussed with people calling MCSE mouse click systems engineers etc. And one guy put out 10 resumes, 5 with MCSE, 5 without. He only got calls with the one without. Sigh

Then use them as a personal test to see if you know your stuff, jeez. Obviously you don't know as much as you thought you did Sinetheo, else you would've passed. Don't blame the questions asked.

Either way sounds like your employer wants you to pass as a KPI, which will I'm sure include a pay remuneration review. Good luck, $$$.
