Hello,

I am running Windows 10 Build 10130 in a virtual machine on my laptop. I went to Settings > Windows Update to try to update to Build 10158/10159. However, the update was not shown. I clicked "Check for Updates," but a message came up saying that my system was up to date.

How can I update to Build 10158/10159?

I have heard a few people with this issue...assume you are on fast ring.....if someone doesn't have a quick fix....you can search the usual sources for an ESD of build 10159 X64 and use a decryt script (command prompt at root of C) it to ISO, burn the ISO and do the upgrade that way...bit of work but gets you out of a bind...Cheers

Got the above link from member timster and it decrypts easy and fast...just find an ESD...instructions in download. There are others but this one works real nice.

Seems like a tough problem and a lot of work. If I ran into this problem, and no quick fix was posted...I, myself would try a clean install of the new build and be on an MS account and do the verify account through your email as MS will ask you in the process.....If I see a quick fix, I will post back...Cheers...

In the same boat as OP. Running 10130 in a VM. Changed from Slow ring to Fast ring. Installed all the Windows updates. Says no updates are available. Restarted the Windows Update server from the Task Manager, too. (There's an article on the front page about trying to un-stick your Windows Update.)

I can be patient, though. I'm actually up a bit past my bedtime. I probably just need to wait for my status on the Fast ring to process. If I learn anything, I will share it.

In another thread...warwagon said he stopped the WU service, did a disk clean and restarted the WU service...and it worked...others waited and did a reboot a few times till the update showed......check out the Win10 beta thread for today....Cheers...

If the update is not showing up try 2 things.

1st stop the windows update service and rename the c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder to softwaredistributionold then start Windows update back up. If that doesn't work

Try

Oddly enough this next thing actually worked on my Windows 10 Pro 32bit HP stream 7 tablet

Not taking credit the following... I copy and pasted it. Source at the bottom.

Open update utility

Click Check for updates (The screen changes briefly)

Immediately click Advanced Options (after the screen change)

Scroll down and select fast ring

Do not click back or alt-tab to any other app, just wait for 2 minutes.

You may check your drive activity light if you want or if you have resource monitor open in another window/screen, sort by disk Writes and look for c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DeliveryOptimization\f6352d14a5741(Snipped because its long)

Once you have drive activity or see that in resource monitor you can click the back button above and you'll see the download in progress.

This has to be done with speed. When you click the check for update buttons some of the text goes away and the advanced options link moves up, be ready for that and click it quickly. DO NOT CLICK IT BEFORE IT MOVES.

Took me like 4 attempts before it finally worked

I've been having this same problem on my Surface Pro 3. Reinstalling 10130 from the ISO didn't even help. I'm currently restoring Windows 8.1 and then I'll attempt to upgrade it to Windows 10 from there and see if I have better luck.

There is a iso on 'the usual kickass goto site' that is a bootable iso and from a trusted source.

As usual, wont link to it but if you know where to look, its easy to find. "

But, if you do a clean install from that ISO, will you be able to successfully activate Windows?

I have a Core i7 920 machine with 12 Gb of Ram (3.8 GB in use, the rest available).

I have manually installed Windows 10 10130 ISO on the machine because it would not install with Windows 7 Ultimate running.

Windows 10 Build 10159 wants to install, but won't because of some kind of error that causes the following to pop up:

Try this:

From the WinX Menu, open Command Prompt (Admin). Type the following one after the other and hit Enter:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
This will stop the Windows Update related Services.

Next browse to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and delete all the files and folders inside. Press Ctrl+A to Select All and then Delete.

If the files are in use, and you are unable to delete some files, restart your device. After rebooting, run the above commands again. Now you will be able to delete the files from the mentioned Software Distribution folder.

After you have emptied this folder, you may restart your computer or you may type the following commands one at a time in the CMD, and hit Enter to restart the Windows Update related Services.

net start wuauserv
net start bits
Run Windows Updated again and see.

    • TeraCopy 4.0 Build 26 by Razvan Serea TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, also providing you with a lot of features. Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. Pause and resume transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click. Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files. Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual. TeraCopy is free for non-commercial use only. For commercial use you need to buy a license. The paid version of the program includes the following features: Copy/move to your favorite folders. Save reports as HTML and CSV files. Select files with the same extension/folder. Remove the selected files from the copy queue. TeraCopy 4.0 Build 26 changelog: Added support for receiving files via the LocalSend protocol. Improved exception handling and automated bug report upload. Fixed several minor bugs and small memory leaks. Build 26 (June 24) Fixed a rare exception when a transfer completed. Features added since version 3.17: Enhanced speed graph. New multi-threaded copy engine. Support for copying to multiple targets. Queue system for managing multiple copy operations. Support for receiving files via the LocalSend protocol. TeraCopy entry in the modern Windows Explorer context menu. Integrated toolbar in the title bar. Why receive LocalSend transfers with TeraCopy? Handle file conflicts: Skip, overwrite, or rename files when a file with the same name already exists. LocalSend always creates another copy, which can waste time and disk space, especially when resuming an interrupted transfer. Filter unwanted files: Apply ignore lists or remove files manually before accepting a transfer, so unnecessary files are not downloaded. Better performance on fast networks: In tests over a 10 Gbps connection, TeraCopy received files several times faster than the standard LocalSend app on Windows. • Age of Empires Mobile comes to PC, here's how to carry over progress from your phone by Ivan Jenic Image: YouTube/Microsoft Microsoft just released Age of Empires Mobile for PC. The game, officially called Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition, is available for free on Steam and Microsoft Store, almost two years after its initial release for handheld devices. Age of Empires is one of those franchises that entire generations grew up with. The original came out in 1997, and immediately got people hooked to building civilizations and crushing their enemies on the battlefield. However, the franchise today is a far cry from its roots, as Age of Empires Mobile is, well, a game optimized for handheld devices, and not a classic RTS title we’ve all loved for years. And, of course, it includes in-game purchases. The PC version is still a mobile game at its core, but it’s been optimized for desktop play. There’s mouse control, full keyboard compatibility, and a refined UI. Microsoft also refreshed the visuals with some 4k textures, so the game should look better on larger screens. The game supports Crossplay, so you can switch between your phone, tablet, and PC without losing anything. But linked progress doesn’t come out of the box, as you have to enable it first. Here’s how to link your progress: On your mobile device, open Age of Empires Mobile. Go to Settings (Gear icon) > Account. Select Bind Account and choose a sign-in option. Once you enable account binding, sign in on PC using the same method, and your progress will be accessible across all your devices. Xbox Game Pass subscribers also get a bonus reward pack on PC, which includes: 1 Monthly Pass Token 1 Custom Resource Chest 10 Universal 60-Minute Speed-Ups 1,000 Empire Coins Exclusive Player Portrait Frame You can find more info about Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition, as well as download links, on the Age of Empires official website.
