So from my understanding, the general public will not get the final Window 10 update on July 29, since they are doing it in waves.

However the preview members will.  So, I rarely use my Microsoft Account in windows, I normally use Local.

So say on the 28th, I install/upgrade whatever to the current preview build on my desktop and stay signed in with my Microsoft account.  I should get the update to 10.  Then I can sign out/remove the Microsoft account and continue on....correct?

I already did the reserve a copy thing too.

Starting on the 29th it will begin rolliing out in waves, to everyone, just as the Insider Previews do. It might take an hour, it might take a day or two to show up, but the general public will get it.

This was something taken way out of context by most tech news sites.

Once you leave the insider program and if your UEFI has a Windows 8 Pro key and not core, can Windows grab the key and use it to activate windows? What about if you had a Windows 8 upgrade key can we use that too? Or do we have to remove the insider version off the computer, reinstall 8 and upgrade from there?

Will the Windows 10 clean installers will accept Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 keys? Or will you sign into a Microsoft account after installation?

Have you ever had the feeling that Armageddon is right around the corner? :D

Why are there so many people saying their "bios has a key", your bios is the input/output system of your computer, it has no serial number in it, that's impossible.

Fine then, the WIndows 8 product key embedded in the UEFI

OEM keys have been installed by OEMs into the BIOS tables for years now. Not just UEFI.

because OEM's are given the ability to set aside a portion of their BIOS / UEFI to store a key which Microsoft can read to see if the OEM pre-licensed the computer with their OEM key

That's SLIC not a Windows serial.

So, if you use a MS account on multiple PCs and you reserve for the Win 10 OS on each, does the reservation tie into the key you have on each? Or does it add x number of keys to your MS account? I am hoping you actually get the keys when you want to wipe the system instead. (Sorry, I haven't read too much into the process when it comes. Forgive me)

That's SLIC not a Windows serial.

I think it's more then SLIC now. At least at the UEFI level. A standard Windows 8.1 install will not request a key when installed on specific OEM systems, but the same install media will request a key if no key is embedded in the UEFI.

Just a headsup for any pirates over here and for people who are just interested, daz has confirmed that windows 7 will upgrade to 10 when it has been illegally activated by using a loader to fake slic information.

This means most windows 7 pirates will be able to upgrade to 10 without issues. This was to be expected I guess since it's not possible to detect this type of illegal activation :/

So if daz his expectation about this is true then we will have windows 7 pirates that get away with it and windows 8 pirates who won't.

Since piracy is not allowed at the forums I'll not go into any technical details about illegally activating windows 7.

Indeed, Microsoft replaced SLIC after it has been proven to have failed(Windows 7) with keys embedded at uefi level, that's why there isn't any windows 8 hardware available without UEFI.

^ who cares if people get it for free.

Microsoft maybe does, they might expected to get quite some sales from people buying windows 10 with a illegal software victim discount.

    • Shocker! It would be crazy to be ready to introduce a "fold" phone but have no plans happening for a followup model.
    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
