Is it too late to buy a PS2?

Recommended Posts

Panthlike in my opinion u shuld buy a ps2. Ps2s never go out of date! They updated them now do they have an ir reciever and a quieter fan and it has the ability to play dvd r and rw. I agree with stezo2k. The xbox isnt a games console its more like a hench and big pc. all its missing is a monitor a keyboard and a mouse. I own a ps2 myself and i have played xbox but i preferred ps2 much more. The xbox is cheaper but thts only becos microsoft were missing out on sales! I also think the xbox is a rip off as u have to buy tthe remote for the xbox just to enable dvd playback. Xbox do an supscription service for online play but with ps2 get the network adapter and a configure it and ur ready nto go. No extra costs. Ps2 always gets the best games first and only now xbox is getting gta 3 and vice city which is one of the best games ever made! Xbox may have betta graphics but who wants a chunky xbox which weighs 8 pounds? when u can have a sleek satin silver or a black ps2. If u want more than tht in a games machine waoit till nxt yr when the ps2s sucessor come the PSX. Its not the first one but a reallly updated ps2. Heres a pic of it. Its has a built in tv tuner built in broadband adapter, space for a memory stick, come in 5 different colours, comes with a remote, a dvd recorder built into the PSX and either a 160gb or 250 gb hard drive. Wat more could u want? Hope I helped!

ps2: ~ 60 million sales worldwide

xbox and gamecube COMBINED: ~ 20 million

it wouldn't even matter if the ps2 was HALF the power of an xbox. if you're a game developer, more people owning ps2s mean more people you can market your game to. that's why sony has more games and (arguably) better games on average. that's why microsoft and nintendo have to shop and make deals with developers just to get a decent game on their respective systems.

if you have no consoles and you're looking to buy one, it's no question which one you want to buy first.

i'd even try waiting until march if you can to buy any console. they always seem to drop in price around 20 bucks or so every march.

The xbox isnt a games console its more like a hench and big pc. all its missing is a monitor a keyboard and a mouse.

oh and the PSX, thats a game console isnt it   just grabbed a tivo box and put some ps2 bits in it

Sony only sell there PS.. because of the past.. if the sega saturn hadn't been a down fall... sony wouldn't of got half its sales...

thats why many people my have chose the PS2 over the D.C when it arrived... because more people were into the PS...

don't spend that much money on **** you don't need. you want to play ps2 games, buy a ps2. you want to record tv and dvd's, stick with your computer. you don't need something that does both, it's pointless and costs way too much.

the only reason i don't buy an xbox is every game for xbox that i like is also released for pc.. if it wasn't for this, i probably would grab an xbox. i hate their controllers though.

Well i wasnt takin bout the psx i was talkin bout the ps2 AND the psx is not big.

I have both an Xbox and a PS2, and I hardly play the PS2 now. It's currently on loan to a member of my family, so that shows how much I play it! I've just gotten bored of it. I think I'll wait for FFX-2 (if we in the UK ever get it) and that will probably be one of the last games I get for the console. Only have 5 games for my Xbox, but I love it. About 14 or 15 for my PS2, but it's getting old now.

Well, the original guy asked if he should get a PS2, not which is best. I think yes. Despite what people say about it being released early, I still forsee Q2 2005 release. Of course, this all depends when the other 2 companies bring their consoles out. I don't have a Cube, but I know someone who does. I can't say I'm overly fond of them and anxious to buy one for myself, but different things suit different people. :)

Pros of the PS2:

- A great library of games.

- It's broadband compatible.

- Also usable as a DVD player right away (unlike Xboxes, which need a DVD kit or a mod chip).

- The EyeToy is supposed to be good fun.

- Backwards compatible with PS1 games.

Cons of the PS2:

- They're still relatively expensive.

- Looking old and dated now.

- There are fewer "smash hit, must have" games released recently than there used to be.

- They tend to be the "left behind" console these days. By this I mean, when there is a multi-platform game out (eg. Soul Calibur 2), the PS2 version tends to be the worst.

Hope that helps.

I WASNT TALKIN ABOUT THE PS2 IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THE PSX ISNT BIG

I WASNT TALKIN ABOUT THE PS2 IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THE PSX ISNT BIG

not talking about the PS2 much !!!..... and who cares about how much a game console ways.. its only supposed to sit next to the t.v it's not a frigging Game Boy Advance

more people were into the PS...

I WASNT TALKIN ABOUT THE PS2 IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THE PSX ISNT BIG

on my if you think PSX isn't big look at sony japans site and look at the dimensions... it's a tad bit bigger then the xbox!

外形寸法 312?323?88mm(幅?高さ?奥行/縦置き時、最大突起含む)

thats 31.2x32.2x8.8cm!

or for english

14 inches long 14 inches wide and 4 inches high!

also, PS3 was announced to be designed very similary to XBOX, so stop complaining about xbox being a computer, you can't even directly convert xbox back into a computer system easily... it's a majorly modified system, just bacause it has a nvidia chipset, graphics card and an intel processor doesn't mean its exactly the same as the thing sitting on ur desk...

as for PS3... they're going to be following the computer type system based way that xbox used to design it.. read up on PS3 and you will find that out...

and for other consoles... they're just as a computer as xbox is! what chip or how the bus is designed doesn't make a computer a computer or a console diffrent from a computer... they're all computers

lol

you can't even directly convert xbox back into a computer system easily
<sarcasm>You're right.. it takes a full torturous five minutes to install a heavy, expensive mod chip into there.. and the linux that you can install on there isnt the same as the linux you can install on a PC  </sarcasm>
and for other consoles... they're just as a computer as xbox is! what chip or how the bus is designed doesn't make a computer a computer or a console diffrent from a computer... they're all computers

You're right, I sure love my linux PS2 box

lol

You're right, I sure love my linux PS2 box

well.. the PS3 from all the stuff I read will be running on a standard processor similar to XBOX and be running on an embedded os like xbox (some people say linux, some say a custom os) which to me is exactly like xbox, considering its doing that same thing...

as for the modding, anything that involves changeing hardware like that or soldering onto a motherboard is a heavy modification to me... it does take skill to solder especialy at SMD (surface mount devices) levels like that... and of course linux on xbox is gona be diffrent then on a standard x86 system... you have to deal with a lot of the embedded code MS put in the system...
