Is it too late to buy a PS2?

Recommended Posts

Okay games list is alright but I have to admit that PoP and BG&E were not just for ps2 exclusive, they all came out for all consoles at same time in USA, was jusr exclusive in europe for a a month iirc but ah well its up to the thread starter tbh, this thread should be closed because its turned into a war and hes probabaly already made his mind up and we've said nearly every single points, good and bad!!

Oh dont get me wrong I love my GameCube. Its a great system and I'am a Nintendo fan (ever since I first played SNES) but Nintendo has been killing me lately - with barely any online games, and the new Donkey Kong(a) game which is ****. I want to play NHL 2004 online but I like playing games on a console rather than a PC. I'm on the PC enough as it is though (for other reasons, not gaming) and plus I hate using the keyboard for gaming. Yes I could buy a gamepad but the PS2 looks like its still a great system as I not only want NHL 2004 to play online but I want WWE Smackdown! Here comes the Pain. Those two games I really really want. I know NHL 2004 is a multi-platform game but WWE Smackdown! Here comes the pain isn't. Basically the wrestling games are broken down..

GameCube: All the WrestleMania games

Playstation 2: All the WWE Smackdown! games

Xbox: All the WWE Raw games

So by getting a PS2, I'm getting the best wrestling game and I can play one of the best hockey games online. No other platform I can do both games on. thanks for everyone's opinions as I didnt expect all these replys lol. Happy New Year.

dont forget, All ea games are only oline for pc and ps2

the xbox shouldn't be considered as a console anyway, it's mainly Pc hardware

I used to say that before I bought my xbox. Altho, at heart its just a PC, what Microsoft has done, is simplified PC gaming. No more of this 'incompatible drivers' and 'old hardware' crap, xbox is ready to go out of the box. Theres also the little nifty things, like the inline release for the controlers. Many times I've pulled over a Gamecube or Playstation2 cause the cable wasn't long enough, and I was stretching it. With the xbox, it just clicks out, and the game pauses, and the xbox stays put. It also works if somebody trips on the cable too :D. Granted, I use my xbox mainly for homebrew, and as a HTPC tho, so I can't really boast about the xbox native games. There have to be some good ones in that sea of lackuster titles :p.

Anyone in this thread that says "The Xbox is better, get that" obviously doesn't understand video games.

It doesn't matter though. The sales numbers have already proved them wrong.

Of course its not too late. The PS2 has at least another 2 good years. Just look at the PSOne. Aren't new games coming out for it? One of my PSX games was just released April 2003.

sigh. as stating way earlier in this thread i own all 3 of the current consoles. ive played a few games that came out on all 3 and way more often then not the ps2 was better then the xbox or gamecube versions. ps2 has all of the ff series and gta(well those are out for xbox now too) xbox has halo. mmm halo. gamecube has metroid and zelda. saying the xbox graphics make it way better then the ps2 or gamecube is a bunch of crap. as any gamer knows just cause its pretty doesnt make it good. its quite the opposite. it could be the most beautiful game youve ever seen but still be absolute crap.

its mostly about personal choice. if youre looking to buy one just go to a friends or a nearby game store and play around with the games they have on display and make your choice

I want to start a poll. Xbos vs Ps2. But how do i? Personally stick to the ps2. Its good another 2 to 3yr lifespan and games come out every week practically. It has good all the online games [practically and the the gt series and ff series. a question how do i start a poll? and when gta 4 comes out will it be on on xbox too? Hope not!

Care to explain? Your statement makes no sense...at all.

It's a console, it plays games (very well), has kick-ass graphics, superior audio, and the best online support. What's WRONG with it? (Oh, you're probably just a PS2 fanboy).

Xboxes are selling like crazy. My friend's a manager at my local Gamestop and he said that this year Xboxes outsold PS2's 2:1 (of course, the PS2 hit its saturation point).

im gonna settle this once and for all! I no how to start poolls. ill send a link as soon as i make it. and xbox didnt sell out ps2s. Microsoft suffered huge losses with the xbox and they aare only sellin cos they moves ther price down by about 70 to 100 dollars! and u cant call pll ps2 fanboys cos ur 1s urselves!

I always thought that an XBox was just a stripped down computer?

I don't know about the PS2, I've played on one a couple times and I was less than impressed. I mean, its a console, when you write the game you KNOW what the performance is going to be...why would it stutter and slow down like a crappy old eMachine while playing GTA3? Its not like anyone has an excuse that their hardware needs upgraded...

I liked my old PS, I liked FF7 and XCom and stuff like that...but that was way back when consoles were cooler than computers...

Hey,

I've been thinking about buying a Playstation 2 with my Christmas money because I want to get NHL 2004 and play it online and I want WWE Smackdown! Here comes the Pain. Would it be wise to buy this system even though its over 3 years old and PS3 is a year or so around the corner? I already own a Gamecube but Nintendo kills me with the lack of Online gaming for it.

What you all think? So far all the people I've asked said go for it but I'm still looking for some more opinions.

I haven't read any other posts in this thread, so I'm just responding to the OP directly.

I myself just bought a PS/2 for x-mas as well. Future Shop (Canada) had a deal I just couldn't pass up. I've always been a bit of a Nintendo stalwart, pretty much only owning Nintendo systems, since they've always seemed to offer the most titles that I've been interested in. However, the N64 didn't really fill my appetite, but I was still too 'anti-psx' to go the other way. (With one particular exception, see below.) I got a GC in 2002, and immensely enjoyed a few games on it, still disdaining the ever-popular PS2. Then the PS2 all of a sudden had this huge amount of games that started to look interesting to me. Original platformers, RPG's, etc etc. When a Castlevania game that was announced as being created by the same team that created Symphony of the Night, (The only PSX game I played over and over on a friends PSX..that game is AWESOME.) I practically started to drool.

So, I purchased a PS2 and said Castlevania game, and I'm really glad I did - because all this time spent sticking by one company has been ridiculously stupid - I've really been missing out. There are so many games I can't wait to pick out and play on the PS2, and one of the best parts is that many of those games are in the 'greatest hits' category already, meaning I'm going to get some bang for my buck.

I'm not interested in online gaming at all, so that wasn't a draw for me. I chose to buy it solely based on the sheer weath of titles that look fun and interesting to play. I think it's certainly been a wise videogame purchase. Sure, the new set of consoles will be upon us sometime closer to the end of next year, but why miss out on all the gaming goodness to come? There are still a ton of games coming out for the existing systems, and they're looking and playing better and better than ever.

So, the short answer - hell yeah, go for it - it's really worth it. :)

    • Limited time Prime Day deal cuts price of this Hisense 65" 4K smart TV in half by Ivan Jenic It’s Amazon Prime Day, and brands are offering great deals to consumers. One of the best deals of the day is definitely this Hisense 65" U7, which is currently $799.99 on Amazon, down from $1,499.99. That's nearly 50% off and $700 saved on this feature-packed 4K TV (purchase link down below). The U7 uses Mini-LED backlighting with up to 3,000 local dimming zones and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. That means blacks are truly deep and highlights are punchy enough to hold up even in bright rooms. The screen is covered with a dual-layer anti-reflection coating, which prevents the afternoon overhead lights from washing the picture. For gaming, the native 165Hz refresh rate and VRR 330 support make this one a great TV option for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The TV even features a native game mode, which should help minimize the input lag for a better gaming experience. Audio is handled by a 2.1.2 channel system tuned by Devialet, which is a notable partnership for a TV at this price. Additionally, Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and IMAX Enhanced are all supported. It runs Fire TV with Alexa+ built in. So, if you’re looking for a sharp, large screen to watch the World Cup on, the U7 at this price is definitely an attractive option. Speaking of which, Hisense is the official sponsor of the World Cup, which should mean absolutely nothing to you, and isn’t the reason why you should by this TV. The reason why you should buy it is that it’s “la bella televisione, HDTV-compatible, beautiful,” and available at half the price. • Re: Capitalism. It's just 1 of dozens of economic models currently-adopted worldwide; most national models separate money from politics thereby limiting the influence wealth carries over the economy (due to limited tentacles wealth politics has over the broader economy). The "American model" of unfettered financial influence should NOT be the variant of pure capitalism adopted worldwide. More regulations formulated within this variant is effectively useless due to the misalignment between regulatory objectives and fundamental influence wealth politics carry over the market. Re: enough money. Without constraining the breadth/depth/scope/scale that any measure of money/wealth can have within a market, there will always inherently be those who have "enough money" and those who do not. Those without "enough money" will always lose -- regardless if a bedroom DJ, indie developer, or million-dollar corporation going against a billion-dollar mega-corporation. The evil is the absence of guardrails against the influence of wealth; not the mere existence of wealth. Re: dragged through the courts. The liberalist nature of litigation does not exclude anyone, anywhere, for any reason for getting dragged through the courts. Rather than formalize remediation pathways for various perceived ills, everything is left up to flawed interpretations... and this is where a litigation-averse community fails to thrive (thus a losing proposition when dragged to courts). Everyone should have more protections and clear remediation strategies! Going to an alternate remediation arbitration is OK so long as the case review and remediation processes are clear and transparent. For corporations, hit them where it hurts: automatic financial penalties. (PS: This is where corporate risk management strategies would do well to behave more ethically.) Overall, failure to truly shake-up the incentive core and regulatory extremities of the economic market will necessarily mean that all other actions are simply applying lipstick on a pig. Change begins from the inside. Is the root cause of the problem that a majority of consumers within a market goes for Option Brand-name versus Option Indie? Or that brand-name is spending foreign money to control domestic markets? Or that money is the objective measure for success across all walks of life? Or that deep pockets dictate the moral and ethical rights/wrongs of entire societies? Regardless of the answer (and there's nothing inherently wrong with being a socialist or communist or whatever label your surroundings deem 'cool' or 'uncool') there's a common thread: If a market truly wants to nurture domestic innovation, then performative finger-wagging will do nothing to that end.
