Installing Office 2003, or other apps on a second cd would be pretty cool, I know with ORK you can pre-install the cd key for office, so using that incorporated would be nice to have

yeah, i'm half-way there already on the pre-install bit, I re-made my office cds so that the keys are automatically entered, i can still edit them at setup time if i need to, but the only prompt i get now is to choose what to install.

I know what you are talking about, cpugeniusmv. I was wondering if there was an option to have it request the second disk after the setup. Maybe all I need is someone to teach me how to use batch files and I will make my own. Anyone know of a website that gives you good information on how to make them?

i've got a picture of what you're wanting...

and i think the easiest way to make it ask for a cd after windows is done being setup is to add a batch file that will run during setup, and in that batch file it will create a batch file in the startup directory so that it will run on the first run.

however...

is there really any need to have it ask for the disk? the only way i can see that being useful is if you took the autorun.inf off of the AP cd, and had the batch file that would run at the first run start autopatcher after you put the CD in and "press any key to continue..."

but if you just put the cd in with autorun, it will popup the menu...

i just don't see why you would need that :blink:

but i can tell you how to do it still if you like :)

finally got slipxp to work , works great,

the login in as "admin" has to go . i thought it would log in as "valued customer" because thats the name i reg'd it as?

also, i would like to have windows automatically import my old settings via the file and transfer wizard thing. I have my winxp set up to look like win98 more than the new web crap winxp, i use classic view basically. Then i have small icons with no text on all my toolbars, i have 'show system files' etc.. Can this be done?

yes, it's pretty easy to have it setup an account during setup, and login to that instead. i'm positive that will be in the next release.

as for importing the old settings via the F&T wizard....i've never used it before, but i'll look into it.

Classic view...that's an option in winnt.sif...easily done.

and the folder options items...i'm sure those are registry entries somewhere. we'll have a look.

Happy New Years Eve!!

I have been out doing new year eve stuff and finally got back to checking out what has been going on...

As I read the post, I've been compiling a "wish list" of everything mentioned.

it will take some time for me and cpugeniusmv to review the wish list and

see what can and can not be done. hopefully, we can do ALL that is requested!!

Keep the ideas and suggestions coming!!

Well the reason I ask for this, is some of my friends that aren't the smartest people when it comes to computers will be getting one of these disks from me. If setup tells them to put the second cd in, then things will go smoothly for them. I myself would just do it the way that you said, cause I know what I am doing, but they do not.

my biggest problem with all this is the fact that i will have to burn these cds all the time, well everytime i format which is at LEAST once a month. but thst no REAL big deal, cause im sure i coudl just use rw's (by the way, do they make 80 minute rw's?)

anyways, i have one real suggest. well sorta two.. one being instead of a unattended insteall, an install that has a boot menu, with a bunch of opptions, at the beggining. so it sort of would be conssiddered unattended, cause you make ALL the chioces at the beggining, and THEN its unattended.

the second is a program that automatically does all of the additional software installs. i think i can make it, but im at home and my visual c++ is at university. but i was thinking of something that worked with a database. so you picked all the programs you wanted to install, with the propper switches. all you would have to do is enter the files location.

the program would load all the switch information from like a data file so its easy to update. and the part that i couldnt do cause i can program windows programs yet, is to make you be able to submit your own custom ones? i was thinking you could do that with just e-mailing em to the author with a set subject, so they are easy to find in there mail box...

i dont know if these are good ideas, possible, or have been suggested before. i tried to read through, but i most definatnly missed some

thats the plan!! after the initial install of XP, you can pop in the 2nd CD, autorun will kick in and install drivers and apps, all un-attended!!

Hi evryone,

It sound as a very pretty project!

It will be pity if you not include unattended Office as CD2 and drivers + small appz/utilities in CD1.

I would like help you with this project, as I'm not a coder, I can be a beta tester.

yep, i've got some 80 minute RWs

that would be quite difficult to implement, and frankly...you can choose anything you could ever want in the winnt.sif file.

AutoPatcher XP can be configured to do exactly what you're talking about...no need to make another program :)

if anything, we could take the core program and just make a second database with all the unattended programs and drivers.

Development thus far is still in its infancy...

I need to talk to Raptor and company about using APXP exclusively to

utilize the extra commands to install other apps and drivers.

I have my method that "works" but using APXP would be easier

for me and cpugeniusmv to add since its already built in.

just need permission from the APXP devs on using it and making

a related extentions of what they have and also for future developement

purposes too

Hi,

I would like suggesting more features for this project.

Everybody are agreed for a main Language and Keyboard configuration. What about for those who using 2 or more languages? It is possible to enable at least 1 Added Language and Keyboard

Also, many users as myself have splited them Hard disk to a dedicated partitions. In my case I've dedicated a:

partition for system and programs which contain WinXP, Office, Adobe, NAV, Diskeeper...

partition for all Data which contain My Documents, outlook, Office, Adobe DATA

partition for Temporary files which contain Windows Temp and Temporay Internet Files

It will be clever to enable these links configurations.

im glad you mentioned more about the languages...

I am Japanese but live in a the US, i do read and write both languages.

i do a lot of internet stuff in english.

I have found a way to install language packs that can be individually downloaded from MS.

I have to make a way so that each user can download what they want and easily integrate it

into the CD.

I finished a tenative list of what to work on...

thus far, this is what I have...

-Keep the SlipStream of SP1 and AP

-Tweakout the winnt.sif (for unattended install) setup process.

-Modular Batch Files :cool:

-Language settings

-Sliming down of the XP install (further removal of un-needed junk :crazy: )

-*Experimental* :alien: Removal of drivers from the XP CD :alien: *Experimental*

-Adding of current device drivers (video, sound, chipset, printers, etc)

-2nd CD Un-attended Install of Apps and other patches

-Custom Registry tweaks (not just app preferences, but custom settings like mouse/keyboard speeds)

-Registering of purchased Apps like Nero w/ reg files

-overall switch list to un-attended for installation files of popular apps (awaiting emails from tons of companies)

-Guide for "Uber XP DVD" :woot: (XP install, AP, drivers, Apps, etc all on 1 disc!! for you luckey ones w/ DVD burners)

- :shifty: "Dynamic Update Operation" :shifty: DUO for short will the secret to having a ALWAYS uptodate install CD/DVD :woot: :D :woot:

Hi Shifty,

Let be pernickety!

It will be ideal IF... the answer file of Winnt.sif will be on a floppy instead of on XPCD. The reason is, if I give the "autopatched cd" to a friends, it stops them from using my User Data, Network and other informations.

In other hand, tell to system taking Winnt.sif answers from the CD EXCEPT answers available in the floppy.

Hope I was clear.

I'm impatient to test this new autopatcher project! When it will be available.
