The new season kicks off this weekend. It's not a one-make series anymore; everyone's using the same Dallara chassis as last season, but now, there's eight different powertrain manufacturers (it was nine until Andretti decided to revert to the first season's powertrain after their woeful pre-season testing). Here are the fundamental changes for this season...

Season Calendar

  1. 24th October 2015 - Beijing, China
  2. 7th November 2015 - Putrajaya, Malaysia
  3. 19th December 2015 - Punta del Este, Uruguay
  4. 6th February 2016 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
  5. 12th March 2016 - TBC
  6. 2nd April 2016 - Long Beach, USA
  7. 23rd April 2016 - Paris, France
  8. 21st May 2016 - Berlin, Germany
  9. 4th June 2016 - Moscow, Russia
  10. 2nd July 2016 - London, UK
  11. 3rd July 2016 - London, UK

There will be just 18 competitors entered for the FIA Formula E Championship season opener, the Beijing ePrix, after the Trulli team’s entry – the Motomatica JT-01 – was not submitted for the official scrutineering process ahead of the event.

The team claimed that key components had been held up in customs and were granted an extension to submit these for sealing. These components were not submitted in time.

As the car has not been scrutineered, the team is not part of the official entry list for the season two opening round, which takes place in Beijing on October 24.

Trulli will be able to resubmit its car for scrutineering for race two of the season, the Putrajaya ePrix on November 7.

I was working today, so I missed the race and only got to see it a couple of hours ago.

Last week, a seagull got nutted (commentator's words, not mine) at Phillip Island; this week, a cat invaded the track at Beijing...

Wow that was one of the most exciting races of either season!

Fantastic performance by the top 3, Frijns with that car for 3 laps, and Bird up what 11 places from the grid?!

12, even (Valentino Rossi decided to double Bird's effort earlier today in the MotoGP season finale)! Bloody amazing drive from him.

I was gonna wait for the extended highlights to be uploaded before posting, but screw it; it's too good a race to not share.

Bad news...

...but also some good news!

So it'll be 18 cars on the grid this season, but back to 20 next season. It's hard to believe it's been 14 years since Jaguar last raced in a series.

    • I can name 10x that on why not to switch.... It's funny outlook/office are going towards web app wrappers, and then MS is now preaching native apps again.... ugh can we just pick a lane and stay in it
    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
