Indeed, indeed. I wonder if S31 will be in Discovery at some point. One would think so, but who knows these days.

Oh I very much hope so.  But the thing is with S31, we weren't supposed to know about them, so if they are used it should be subtle.

probably due to the way it ended...

On its first airing in the UK on 20 March 1991, the BBC cut several minutes of footage from the episode (most notably the death of Remmick). In addition, Space, Canada's science fiction network, precedes this episode with a viewer discretion warning, the only The Next Generation episode to receive this.

would've been interesting to see where it led, but i like to think the plan failed with the death of Remmick and starfleet swept the whole thing under the rug.

i originally saw the cut version as i'm in the uk so had to watch it on bbc 2, i didn't find out about the censored ending till i got the series on dvd and thought the same as you but also thought..cool hehe..

same with wrath of khan when i first saw it, it had all the bloody bits cut out, finally got to see the directors cut in all it's glory a few years ago.

last few years i barely touch the remote to watch stuff, got fed up with the adverts and crappy programmes, watch all my stuff digitally / dvds / bluray now. watch what i want, when i want and no dumb ad breaks.

There's not enough good sci-fi shows on tv atm apart from the expanse and star wars rebels, maybe stargate would still be on if they hadn't screwed it up so much, changing / killing off characters and making it less serious.

SG1 was great until it got those two from farscape and it went all silly, it became a joke and the stupid ori plot just dragged on like the dominion war in ds9, but without the i want to see more vibe, universe was the nail in the coffin, what a bore fest that was, perfect example of how to destroy a franchise, and people say enterprise sucked, at least that stayed entertaining till the dodgy finale.

Atlantis was decent enough till the they screwed up that to, it's like they completely lost the plot the stargate creators...no wonder the movie creator wanted to do a reboot....just a shame that fell through when he messed up with ID2..

tried to follow shows like dark matter, 12 monkeys, colony and few others but lost interest due to nothing much interesting happening.

Stargate was a show that never took itself too seriously. Richard Dean Anderson only signed on because the creators allowed his character more comedic leeway. It's one of the reasons it did so well.

I liked Ben Browder, and Claudia Black, and I think they added a lot to the show.

As for Axanar, I was really looking forward to it. Alec Peters clearly wanted something to bridge the ENT and TOS eras, and had a pretty solid story, that kept within the lines of canon of both shows, even going as far to "modernize" the TOS look, without changing much.

i finally got into dark matter, good show, watched every episode so far, i then moved to killjoys and just finished watching every ep of that the other day, great show too.

i watched the 1st and 2nd seasons of the 100, but gave up after it carried on the same old stuff for a few more episodes, was hoping they would explore the ruins of civilisation more but it's just seems to be about warring factions of mad max type crazy people.

I really like Dark Matter, mainly the characters 5 and 6.  Wondering when the missing dude's evil twin is going to come back.  The worst episode by far was the Ruby Rose episode, I really don't like her, not sure if it's the resting bitch face or smug-without-acting-chops-to-pull-it-off delivery.

I'm looking forward to Discovery, because my girlfriend is a big fan of all things Star Trek, and it will be the first TV edition we get to see for the first time together.

I gues your talking about the actress who played the evil android? yeah she's not very good at acting, i cringed at her in the new xXx when she unwrapped on the tree...i think it's her smug expression / hair style she always has in what little screen time she's had so far.

First two episodes of this are out, getting ready to watch the first one in a bit.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to watch this later

Just finished episode 1, going to check out episode 2 in a little while but the first ep is pretty spot on trek formula we all know.  First half is like any other episode of trek, ship is at location X, we're there to check out Y, oh look we spotted Z, lets go investigate.   Then the whole 2nd part of the episode things escalate and the pace picks up, which I enjoyed because it draws me in.

I'm going to try and watch this tonight. While I have no issue with the Trekkie formula for story pacing, I kinda hope they mix it up a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing some darker stories as well. Although I'm just reading through Variety's review and the first couple of paragraphs look like this is going to be right up my street. "...trying, with some success, to convey that this is not your father's 'Star Trek.' It might be your mother’s, if she is a fan of 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.'"

I found the first episode to be fairly ok but not great.  I still can't get past the lead female being called Michael...

However, I refuse to pay for the CBS streaming service just out of principle so I will have to get my episodes from alternate methods.  Really aggravating that they force you to pay an additional amount above the cost of the cable I am already paying just to watch the content.

So far, with the first 2 episodes you can tell it's along the lines of DS9s dominion war arc though I expect other episodes will change it up from time to time.  I expect this will be pretty character driven going forward.

They'll probably air it on other services once it's done and also probably release the whole thing in a DVD/BD pack.   Hate to say it but scifi on this scale costs money, putting it on streaming means you're paying to get more episodes, i doubt, regardless of how good it is or not, that if it was on regular TV it'd have enough ratings to keep going.  When shows are on a streaming services that collects it's money from subscriptions and doesn't depend on ads, then you get high quality shows IMO.  Like the stuff netflix does, or HBO which is a cable channel you're paying for.   Most shows on regular TV are meh or the type that don't cost a lot to make, which is why you don't see much Scifi on anymore and when you do it gets canned quick (I'm looking at you FOX).

Dry acting, too much melodrama and in fighting (Soniqua Martin Green still acts like she's on The Walking Dead), Too many flashy and unappealing visuals that don't fit in with Trek canon, and a two hour TV premiere that was so full of irrelevant scenes and dialog, that it could've been cut down to 30 minutes. The look and dialog of the Klingons was way overdone too. I seriously had to turn it off, because I would get lost trying to follow the subtitles.

The look and feel of the show doesn't fit the period. Plain and simple. They're trying to use flashy visuals as a cover for their poorly written show.

Flashy visuals?   I can just picture you saying that it looked cheap if they didn't use the level of visuals they did, complaining about the look in the other direction.    I'm not surprised though, I could've guessed your opinion on it at this point.  And really, the look and feel doesn't fit the period?  So it has to look like TOS did back in the 60s to fit the "period" of a scifi show set hundreds of years in the future?    My god man.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
