Mockingbird
That is the question: Should gerrymandering be allowed? +Biscuits Brown MVC Posted December 2, 2015 MVC Share Posted December 2, 2015 In the U.S. at the federal level, the impact is really only seen in the House of Representatives (and I'd argue that for all of my adult years, I haven't seen any real advantage for either side since House members tend to have problems sticking to their own party agenda regardless of majority). At the state level it has its share if potential bias but in the end, no single party stays in office forever (well, maybe they do in Chicago...) so the redistricting tends to ebb and flow as the representation changes. Are there cases of abuse? Sure but what political process exists without that potential? Its part of the system except in a few places where its been 'replaced' with some other system of determining districts. If I remember correctly, when I lived in Arizona, there was a different process than the traditional redistricting. Replacing it simply moves the power from one group (Team Red or Team Blue) to some other group that can be influenced by money.
Melfster
The problem is leads to more insane candidates. There is reason congress approval ratings get worse over time and this is one them.
