giantsnyy Posted November 14, 2015 Share Posted November 14, 2015 I'm looking to upgrade my late 2013 iMac with an SSD drive... using the spot they left open for the fusion drive... but no matter where I go, I can't find any information about what type of port it is (I know its not mSATA) nor can I find any drives for sale for it. Biohead Posted November 14, 2015 Share Posted November 14, 2015 I believe Apple's SSDs are proprietary-like (in that the interface is specific to Macs, but you can get 3rd party ones). And they also vary between year (so Early 2013 will be different to Late 2013). Worth searching for Apple SSD rather than mSata or M2 SSDs, and then you can pin down your model/year combo. giantsnyy Posted November 14, 2015 Author Share Posted November 14, 2015 I tried all of that too... but the model my iMac is (EMC 2742) doesn't seem to be listed anywhere for spare parts... for any site. Yes, they are insanely expensive. I quoted someone today for a 512GB upgrade for his Macbook Air, which we have to special order from Apple. The SSD alone was $1,200 USD. Dude almost fell out of his seat when I told him the cost. He would be better off just buying a new Macbook Air with the 512GB SSD already in it!
